My thoughts on the Good Omens Finale (WARNING FOR SPOILERS)
First of all, before I say anything, I realize anyone is available to their own opinion, and just because I liked it doesn’t mean everyone else has to! I also realize that I cannot escape people being upset with my opinions and bashing me for it, this is the internet, there’s going to be discourse.
But here’s when I beg, please be kind as possible and try not to cause any arguments in the comments of this post, and absolutely refrain from threats. We should be kind to one another no matter how we feel about the silly ending of a show. Thank you, now without further ado..
Personally, I really adored this ending. I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I even acknowledged this, the fact not everyone is going to be happy, when taking notes during my first watch through.
A bit of background info:
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve been a fan of Good Omens for an astonishingly long time. I got into it back in 2020/2021 I believe? I was in the 8th grade at a Christian school and only got into it because I saw an animatic of Aziracrow to Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy. I had no idea about the two characters and quite honestly believed they were two different ones, sleep (Remy) and Emile Picani, created by Thomas Sanders.
That’s when I went down the rabbit hole the first time.
Long story short, my mom didn’t like the idea of me watching a show with angels and demons at the time, so she stopped me from watching it properly and refused to get Amazon prime.
Then July of 2025 I got super into Supernatural and figured, “hey, this has demons and angels, I should be able to watch this show now.”
So then I went down the rabbit hole again, but only deeper. Then I discovered David Tennant, then Doctor Who, all of the shows David’s in, and here we are now, where I have way too many hyperfixations on shows David Tennant is featured in.
Now, back to my opinion, even though I haven’t properly been a fan as long as some, I do understand the feeling of being so attached to this show. I understand it being something special near and dear to you.
Which honestly— solidifies my opinion.
Let’s talk about them becoming humans first:
I think they’re so cute, first of all. But I do see people upset about this approach. I get it, it’s a very wattpad au approach. Personally, I’m a sucker for these types of au’s.
I have seen people say “it’s not our Aziracrow! It’s Asa and Anthony”— well, yes. I firmly believe it may be their souls, however. I know, some of you don’t believe in that and therefore can’t get past that idea. That’s okay.
I also think that there’s something special about them finding each other in every universe. In the end credits we see them in different places in different universes, and I think that’s adorable.
Now, the burning question: “Why not in this universe?” I don’t think that’s what they wanted. They wanted each other, yes, but what bonded these two souls together was the idea of humanity. From the beginning of Season 1 this is what they wanted.
“Why couldn’t they just run off together?”
Aziraphale quite literally says this “How could we be happy there knowing we’re leaving these people to goodness knows what!”
Now, I do have some cons.
I do think the pacing was off. But that’s what you get when you condense 6 hours into a 90 minute movie.
Although, I do feel as if we perhaps could have gotten much more time with Aziracrow if it weren’t for some scenes that I feel like… weren’t necessarily needed given the time they had.
Such as Aziraphale and Muriel in Hell as “demons”. I get what they were trying to do, and I feel like this could have been put in had they had a season instead of a movie. Yes, I thought they were absolutely adorable as “demons”, but I also think we could have cut that out.
Also wish Jesus was used more, but again, given the time we had, that probably would been better for if we had a full season.
I get it, really I do. I wish they had kissed, confessed, SOMETHING! I mourn that. However, I think the kiss from fingers to lips was absolutely adorable and honestly much more intimate than any kiss could have been. Especially if you think of it like this:
Aziraphale touched his lips after the kiss in season two, then returned it in the movie. THAT symbolism is everything to me.
Also, I want to go back to my points about “they find each other in every universe” and why this show and point is SO special to me specifically.
I have a girlfriend, and I feel this with her. We are our own personal universes Aziraphale and Crowley. She’s my Aziraphale. They literally found each other within my own personal relationship 🥺
I personally think it was a perfect ending and beautifully done. People will be upset no matter what, but I think with everything they could do, this cast and team made it the best it could have been. It's incredibly special to me. I will miss this duo, but you call tell so much love was put into this finale. Thank you, David Tennant, Michael Sheen, the rest of the cast, Rachel Talalay, and most importantly, Terry Pratchett. A beautiful work overall.
I apologize if this is all over the place, my brain is far too scattered to make this structurally good 😆
Also, please let know if there’s any points I missed that either make this ending in your opinion “good” or “bad” and I’d be willing to discuss/debate, but without any animosity.
