mannn.. i feel so torn or smth rn.. i like tadc but i also don’t like it.. i don’t like the creator and some of the voice actors / casting choices (idk if caines voice actor did anything).. i just don’t know what to really do. i genuinely love caine, and i feel like he *is* my son, but it’s hard to feel like that when som/ most of the writing is either not in the show or not very good. i feel bad for still wanting to draw my bigender jax idea while knowing all the bad things when it comes to her writing and stuff.. there’s a lot dawg.. i feel so conflicted ) : it’s kinda hard to put everything into words but i’ve been rebloging alot of tadc critical stuff so i hope that helps explain how i feel.. i love the show but also hate it.. i’ve just been connected to this show and i know it’s bad and i want to not like it but i do and also the caine stuff makes it hard to let go. anyways. idk this prolly wasn’t worded well. im tired. if someone could help me that would be nice but im a random teen on the internet
over the years i've found myself falling in love with artists on spotify who just kind of...disappear. they have small followings to begin with, maybe put out some EPs, and suddenly they're gone. their music shook my soul, and now they haven't released anything in three years, five years, ten years. you go to their socials--if they even have them--and they've been dormant for ages. their websites are completely defunct, their discography frozen in time, without any kind of goodbye that I can find.
and I just think like...I pray they didn't stop because they thought nobody cared. that their music didn't make an impact. it's so scary when you're surrounded by massive names on these platforms, superstars with millions of fans, and you're making pennies if anything at all. it doesn't feel worth it. but it is, it so is.
i wish all the time i'd had a way to tell them myself. that I still listen to the three-song EP they put out, that I still check their page for something new, that it would make my entire year if they showed up in my release radar tomorrow. do you know how much you matter still? do you know how much you're missed? your lyrics are burned in my heart and you were never even big enough for a lyrics page. you deserved one. you deserved to know you were so so loved and still are today
And this is going to make a lot of people very angry to hear.
But a lot of y'all on this website are truly deeply genuinely never going to be capable of any kind of real narrative analysis--and I don't mean 'being right all the time' I mean 'meaningfully engaging with the text in any way'--
Because you are, fundamentally, incapable of comprehending that writers usually do things on purpose.
The match cuts were meticulously designed and put there to communicate something.
The VA's delivery of a line was being directed. Inflection and tone change the meaning of dialogue. This is intentional. There are entire teams of people shaping those choices and deciding which take to use based on what works best for the story.
Information is being revealed in a specific order, on purpose, to craft an emotional arc and guide the audience's understanding.
A character's romantic preferences are only, and SHOULD only be, their primary motivation if the genre is romance. That is why there is a genre called that. Most stories are other genres.
Creators who dislike a character generally give them LESS attention, MORE boring storylines, and LESS screentime.
Sometimes curtains are just blue. But if the shot composition or written narration takes time to HIGHLIGHT, especially more than once, that the curtains are blue, then the blueness of the curtains is by definition narratively important.
"Cite your sources" is not a witch's curse that banishes People With Different Opinions to the shadowrealm of Being Wrong. Someone making points that challenge your perceptions, while including screenshots and explicit examples, cannot be dismissed with "cite your sources" because they are literally doing that. Don't @ me on this one I've seen shit in the wars, y'all.
Failing to understand these things WILL bar you from ever really engaging with or understanding any narrative more complicated than Paw Patrol for the rest of your life.
This post is fantastic. The notes are truly incredible.
OP: you guys are never going to be able to meaningfully engage with story and character analysis if you cant understand or aren't willing to even consider the context within writers create their stories and the intention behind characters actions and motivations, which are intentional and complex. Not everything begins and ends with romance and relationships, in fact most stories outside of the romance genre feature more complex themes and motivations than straightforward romance and romantic love. Sorry if that makes you mad.
Everyone in the notes: ... I am overwhelmed with fury over this ridiculous and incomprehensible statement, how dare you. Many genres focus on romance, have you never watched a movie? There is always romance. Why would you say only the romance genre should include romance. I will not engage any further with what you said or consider additional context.
Shout-out to the person who said that romance is the primary motivation of many characters outside of the romance genre, and the example that they gave for this was.... Glenn Close, in Fatal Attraction.
.... you know I do think there may have been something more significant than romantic attraction motivating this character, who is a violent obsessive stalker. In fact, it could be something a little more... fatal?
Part of me wonders what they thought of the movie Obsession, but mostly I am too afraid to ask.
Hey, so I know this post will probably come as quite a bit of a shock. As I’ve been very supportive of TADC via the fanart that I’ve drawn and the way I’ve interacted with the fanbase so far. But that is exactly why I feel the need to write about this.
Given everything that’s been going down with Glitch, the VA’s, Gooseworx and the fandom, I’m no longer comfortable supporting this show. The goodwill I’ve had for it these past 3 years has been flushed down the drain at this point.
Goose has repeatedly shown herself to be racist and misogynistic, via a bunch of twitter posts. This also bleeds into the show through her writing of the female/femme and poc characters. The VA’s, specifically Michael and Ashley have shown that they do not care about black fans, with the way they’ve joked about the N-word. And have shown themselves to be racist as this has been an ongoing pattern, for Gooseworx as well.

Very good post explaining why the song choice of ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ by Stevie Wonders is completely inappropriate. You should absolutely listen to what black people have to say regarding the matter. They’re the ones whose culture is being appropriated.

Like. Holy crap the best faith interpretation of these
Screenshots of Goose’s misogynistic “jokes”. Saying that women are more dignified when they’re abused by men is especially disgusting to me.
Glitch, to this day, hasn’t made a proper statement about any of this. Not a single post about their creatives’ active racism and misogyny. The only time racism has been called out by Glitch and Goose, has been at a real life event. Ignoring how racist jokes are still racist and perpetuate said racism.
Glitch is also actively mistreating their workers, especially the women working for them.

I highly employ you to read this post. I don’t have the words to say how angry this makes me.
And despite all of this, the fandom has been doing nothing but excuse all of Glitch’s and Goose’s actions. Because apparently, being made uncomfortable by people calling the creator and VA’S out for being racist/misogynistic is worse than the racism and misogyny.
I don’t care if you still like the show, you can like media made by bad people without condoning their actions. The problem is that the TADC fandom doesn’t do this. They excuse all the bigotry, Gooses incredibly questionable track record and ignore Glitch’s workplace abuse.
And I’m tired. I’m tired of bigotry being excused in fandoms because we can’t have people getting uncomfortable. I’m tired of people excusing the fucked up actions of somebody because they made a thing they liked. I’m tired of this fandom excusing antiblackness but labeling anybody transphobic for daring to critique Goose’s actions.
I really liked this show at some point, but I can’t say I do anymore. At this point I don’t want anything to do with it or this fandom.
If you’re going to try and excuse all of the shitty things Goose and everyone involved have done, don’t even. I can’t be bothered to hear even more excuses for the racism and misogyny.
I’m letting my past fanart for this show stay up, only because of the time and effort. But don’t expect any more of it from me. If you want to discuss anything, remember to be civil and only do so under this post, as it’ll be my last regarding TADC.
I noticed people have been dogging on critical tags recently and I’m just going to say:
Most of us are not D1 haters in our lives or something like many people assume lol. We just found a media that we were passionate about in a positive way. Then, we found out something negative about that media, subjectively or objectively. It can be something more minor, like being frustrated with a writing choice, or it can be deeper, like writing perpetuating harmful stereotypes/narratives/etc., and sometimes, it even bleeds into real life, when we find out the creators behind something we liked are… less than stellar people. Perhaps they even partook in bigotry or a harmful act that overshadows their work. Or at the very least is something that should be kept in mind.
And so, that passion gets translated into a different type of passion. A drive to talk about what we wish was different or what bothers us. Some of us might do both, we might talk about the bad things while also still engaging with general fandom content separately because it fulfills certain aspects that canon might not or is just fun to see.
We NEED crit spaces to talk about certain media when we feel mixed or negative on them. And we usually don’t cross tag with the main tag. We vent our frustrations in critical tags because we want a space where people understand where we are coming from, and we also don’t want to bring down people in the main tag (excluding serious issues, which do happen sometimes, but you know what I mean).
I’m more of a lover than a hater, corny but true. I don’t critique anything I despise. I critique stuff I like/d that I got disappointed by for one reason or another. Maybe I even still like it but I’m exasperated and would rather not stress about the loud minority of fans who cannot accept anything but positivity. And yeah, you’ll find the occasional crit blogger who is doing it for malicious reasons, there are people who hate to hate out there, but that’s not most of us. So please, don’t go in this tag expecting just positive opinions, and then pick a fight when you see people using the tags what they’re meant for!!!
There’s something I realized about myself while looking into all the problems with Glitch. I’m only posting it because I think a lot of white people also need to hear it. You may assume that because you yourself are not intentionally racist, that most other people are not. This is not true, yes even in left leaning spaces. Someone pointed out issues with Goose using the song “isn’t she lovely”, post linked here. They said it was likely purposeful on her end. I admit my first thought was “well it was probably unintentional!”, but here’s the thing: I DONT KNOW THAT! As much as I try to learn on my own, I have no way of knowing if someone’s racism is intentional or not. I know that people in high positions in power do that, but I don’t expect people I view as being like me (queer leftists) to do that. And another thing, if people of color are saying that they think it’s intentional, then y’know what? It doesn’t fucking matter what I think. I am always going to trust the voices of people of color when it comes to their experiences with racism, and them recognizing patterns. They understand what it’s like to be persecuted racially, which I never have experienced as a white person. If they are saying that they think something is intentional, then it probably is. (To be frank the op of the post I linked is white, but I have seen people of color agreeing, and I have seen a few black people saying the same on places like reddit.)
I don’t like to post these things. White people tend to treat people of color like priests at a confessional. Truth is, they don’t want to hear about your mistakes. People aren’t really jazzed to hear about how guilty you feel for persecuting them in the past. I don’t want this post to be that in the slightest. I don’t want white people under this post doing that either (please for the love of god don’t). But I think other white people can get something out of this post. Again: just because you are not intentionally racist, just because you acknowledge that you benefit from a racist system, just because you stand with people of color, doesn’t mean other white people do as well. Yes even queers and so-called leftists!
If people have problems with this post, leave a comment and lmk if I said something incorrect, or hell drop me an ask if you wanna be anonymous. I appreciate any criticism about this because I’m not great at wording things, I might not be getting my point across or maybe my point is flawed. I’d also appreciate if poc left their own thoughts here too :) thanks in advance.
I wanted to speak a bit on the VA situation with TADC, and I guess about Glitch too. I have a lot of feelings and thoughts about this, so bear with me while I try to organize them. I was in the industry for a huge chunk of my adult life and like 5 years of my childhood--20 years total--at first as an online voice actor, and then mostly as a voice director and sometimes in casting, with a few personal or commercial projects in between as a writer or director. I have bounced around a number of creative roles. The traditional entertainment industry is structurally, incurably racist and misogynistic. I have first-hand experience with the personal compromises and sacrifices good people have had to make in the past to make a show within the traditional television system. I have been actively made fun of for refusing to tolerate the n word. I have been bullied out of groups. I have genuinely lost count of the amount of times someone has sat me down and said something to the effect of "I'm sorry, but you're making the people in [group full of creators] feel really uncomfortable with this. I pride myself on cultivating a comfortable space for creators and I don't agree with restricting the creativity of anyone here" because I objected to people saying whole ass slurs and making racist or misogynistic jokes. I fought this. I pushed for inclusive casting, advocated for the work-life balance of others (but never myself, lol), etc. You learn to put up with it in order to make the thing you want to make, and hope that the putting the thing out in the world does more good than compromising yourself felt bad. After a while, you do become a bit dead to it. In a way, I think the entertainment industry is incompatible with genuine growth. Not even (just) because the environment is toxic and you're rewarded for being an asshole, but because growth requires your brain to cycle out of being miserable and stressed, and you can't until you're between projects, but that's when you're not making money, so you're stressed about that instead. This is all a bit of a tangent, but what I mean to say is that this is a big part of why it seems like none of these people ever change at all. Personal growth is both discouraged and impossible. It's especially bad if you have deeply-embedded shame, because you feel bad about bad things and bad about good things and both of them are 10 times too strong and don't really feel different. It feels really reassuring and safe when your boss and coworkers are not limiting you, and are in fact encouraging you to stop feeling that shame. This is a trap that many fall into, and it can take many wasted years to realize that it won't actually solve your problems.
I'm out of entertainment now, and I don't really feel like I was able to make a difference, but I hoped someone would. I left when the online creator market was fairly young. When YouTube became a way that people could actually make money, I was really excited. The whole promise of all this was supposed to be that people could make things without having to make those kinds of compromises. That's why this kind of stuff disappoints me so much. Hearing how Glitch treats animators and other team members and what the internal culture is like is very much deja vu, and I find that a miserable waste. You created an entirely new system just to what, copy the old one exactly but with yourself at the top? That's pathetic.
While I'm here, I want to make something else very clear while I'm here as a natural consequence of what I said above: every non black voice actor says the n word for fun. it would be easier to list exceptions. It is critical that you do not interpret "non-black" as "white" in this context because it would be a mistake to think that brown voice actors do it even fractionally less. This is an issue embedded deep in the cultural foundations of voice over as an industry and creative field. I have met voice actors, plural, who say the n word at the beginning of every session as a way to break the initial tension in a booth and remove mental restrictions on the performance, so they say, because it's taboo. It's essential that they feel absolutely NO restriction on their performance, you see, and the n word taboo is the GREATEST restriction on casual speech in our society. Ridiculous. If you have to say slurs to get out of your own head, that's a flaw in your acting process and you need to get better at your job. But genuinely, that's how casual it is. So whenever I hear that SoAndSoVA said a slur somewhere, I'm not particularly surprised, and I'm not really sure what to do either. This is something that I've watched Black actors put up with. Reasons vary. It can be as simple as not wanting to negatively impact their career, or often genuinely not wanting to risk cutting off income for other marginalized actors "just" over this (because let's be honest, Black queers show up for White queers in a way that never really happens in reverse). Or sometimes they just seem to really think it's funny. I don't know how to show up for them, but I try to do the best that I can. I ask.
It just... persists. It all persists. No matter how many times things change hands, how many companies "revolutionize" indie, it's always the same. I'm so disappointed.
There is a specific reason behind this composition.
While the vertical format is great for smartphone screens, I also wanted to use negative space to create a distinct mood.
I believe that negative space can express a character's inner emotions. In this piece, the character is small, and the background takes up about 80% of the canvas. By drawing the character so small, I can evoke a sense of loneliness and solitude.
Another key point is the placement of the cloud shadows. I intentionally kept Caine out of the shadow. You can see the boundary between the light and the cloud shadow. I used this high contrast to make the character stand out and emphasize their presence.
Finally, let us look at Caine's angle. I purposely hid Caine's face and positioned them to show their back. If their expression were visible, this artwork would probably feel cute rather than lonely.
I enjoy drawing figures from angles where you cannot see their faces. This approach leaves room for viewers to wonder what the character is thinking.
I hope you enjoy discovering these little details and techniques that I put into my everyday artwork💡
i've enjoyed tadc since it's premiered but i haven't drawn anything for it until now and of course i did ✨️fancified✨️ designs. i only did caine, kinger, and pomni so far, i'll eventually get around to the others :3
I know that even within the film Phoenix is really just an object for Winslow to fixate on to drive the plot forward, which sucks, but I still wish that like 90% of Tumblr users who have seen Phantom of the Paradise didn't ignore her. This is mostly bc I think Jessica Harper is amazing and her singing is so so so good and Old Souls is one of my favorite potp songs but also Phoenix is fun. She's fun to draw. Cmon now
