Merlin fic idea:

Merlin finally meets reincarnated Gwen, who introduces herself as Gwen Pendragon. Merlin's then like, "ok, so Gwen and Arthur have already met and gotten married. Cool cool cool. Definitely not heartbroken at all" but then reincarnated Arthur keeps flirting with him, and Merlin keeps rejecting him because he refuses to betray Gwen. BUT THEN Merlin gets invited to a party and Gwen says she wants to introduce him to someone then goes "This is Morgana, my wife" and Merlin's brain gets an error message.

But when you really think about it transfreya makes a lot of sense.

Rejected by her own minority community cause she's seen as an extreme and outright hunted by the majority

Has to fear going out into the world and hiding where absolutely no one can see her save one person. But even he doesn't understand fully/know the truth.

And the rejection of the dress from Merlin when she realizes what's going to happen. Shedding the idea of what even he thinks she is, and this being the final thing she does before dying.

You know what the sad thing about Arthur and Morgana is? Arthur would have embraced Morgana 100% as his sister, magic or not, but she could never see that. She always thought he was a carbon copy of Uther, even when he had proven to her over and over that he wasn't.
