Doug Jones and Danny DeVito in a buddy comedy about a couple of elderly former henchmen unwillingly dragged out of retirement for one last caper. There's a running gag where they claim to be the original duo that the "one of them is short and fat and the other is tall and thin" trope is based on.

Playing against the trope's conventions (but to the actors' respective strengths), DeVito's character is the talkative one while Jones' character hardly says a word. The former argues that popular media always has it the other way 'round due to prejudice against short people.

This movie was so unapologetically New York it was wonderful.

Bad Bunny started playing and my theater started cheering. There’s a halal butcher shop next to a baazar, the kid Peter saved is a wearing a Knicks jersey and there’s a random tourist bus that’s filled with people wearing tacky New York merchandise. My favorite detail is when Empire State turned on its lights to support Spiderman just like how it does in real life with actual events.

The city is alive, vibrant, and in tune with Spider-Man and we see it become its own character rather than just a background setting. Peter finally interacts with the city again as a figure and as a person as well. There’s people who talk to him, who try to help in battles and these are all the moments that make the city a living and breathing home for Peter Parker and Spiderman together.

Tom Holland has such a better Queens accent too and the final moments of the movie are the end credits of everyday New Yorkers living their lives. Just parks, shots of our skyline and the people who make up the city. Idk but like I’m a New Yorker, and I just looked around in my theater and I saw so many people like me all wearing Spiderman merch who were all able to look on screen and see our home represented perfectly.

Shout out to that one Disney short they made in 1995 to play in front of A Goofy Movie by the French Disney team which directly parodied The Exorcist because early 90s Disney just did whatever the fuck they wanted

It's called "Runaway Brain" :3 Disney has a love/hate relationship with it because it's extremely beloved and held in high regard but also it does NOT fit their modern image so they can't promote or release it to any wide capacity because it would 100% terrify children.

This really is a lost gem. The jokes come at you in rapid fire pace, Mickey actually has flaws which makes him more relatable, the animation by the French team is amazing, and the number of Easter eggs crammed into this short is crazy.

Like to give you an idea of how fast some of these jokes go by, when the monster is screaming at Mickey’s face you can see Zazu from The Lion King coming out of the monster’s mouth in a single frame. Also, the mad scientist who does the brain transfer is named Dr. Frankenollie (Frank and Ollie were two of Disney’s original 9 old men) and is voiced by Kelsey Grammer.

This short was buried because the executives were terrified that it was “too edgy” for their brand, despite them requesting it be edgy in the first place! And that’s kinda laughable to look back on now because the 2013 Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse revival has done far crazier things with Mickey and the gang than this little horror short ever did!

americans are sooo desensitized to guns and sometimes it manifests in ways that affect your media literacy. like remember in the first episode of sherlock when john watson opens up his drawer and you see a gun in there and youre supposed to understand that this is narratively significant and conveys his suicidality as well as his willingness to skirt rules and laws but the first time i watched it i was like oh well theres his desk gun. lots of people have those
