In Gold Cages (any variants), why does Sauron forbid everyone from wearing blue?
Me *vibrating with way too much lore background glee*
The short version is that blue represents a lot of people that make him run away screaming and sobbing in terror (real). The slightly longer version is that one of them (Elronds great grandma whom Elrond canonically an absolute carbon copy of looks wise) famously wears blue and gold.
(It’s also to do with one of Elronds dads (who Sauron held captive for thirteen years and fanon/theory is that Sauron had a Thing For Him (Gold Cages Sauron definitely does)) was rescued by a guy who likes blue)
(And Galadriels brother Finrod in Gold Cages verse loves Elronds great grandparents so it’s also a very unpleasant reminder there)
(Also stars and birds and the sea/water are essentially Power and Goodness in Tolkien (the most powerful of the Valar (godly powers of Arda) is Varda who made the stars) so it is a reminder of That)
(Curumo!Sauron also especially hates blue on any of them because it reminds him of the way the rest of the Ainur love Mairon)
