"Ah...?" Iris sat up in bed, mildly confused. A look around her room, and it was the same as ever. Everything was the same as it had been, since she came to Shinrin, the only problem was...
Unable to sleep. No matter how she tossed and turned, how tight the blankets were around her body, how much she adjusted her nightgown... Sleep eluded her return.
...A soft sigh, hands stroking at the blankets in silent contemplation. If sleep wasn't an option, then...?
"It wouldn't hurt to get started on breakfast or something, right?" Something to fill the time again. Especially since she'd only brought so many knitting projects with her; to lose them would mean being unable to distract herself that way while largely sequestered from humanity... Which meant no nearby craft stores.
Breakfast, however, is always in demand. Between herself, the temple's overseers, and the visiting acolytes, there was no shortage of people who'd appreciate it.

Concept: I wake up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water and have to disentangle myself from your sleepy embrace. When I return, I smile because you’re just so cute when you’re dreaming. I slip back under the covers with you and, in your sleep, you unconsciously reach for me, winding your arms around me and pulling me in close to rest my head on your shoulder. I’m lulled back to sleep by the warmth of your embrace and the sound of your heart beat.

Can we just take a second to appreciate how similar Pearl’s and Iris’s sprite poses are?
I think it’s adorable that even though they barely know each other yet they have such similar expressions and poses, especially the face-on serious expression. Sweet faces and big dark eyes must run in the family
This makes me really hope that they get to know each other better after they’ve both gotten over all the family trauma

The wonderful thing about her time in Shinrin Temple was...simply, how beautiful nature was. That was, perhaps, the most simplest way to think on it.
To go into details, Shinrin Temple wasn't far off from the charms of Hazakura. Where Hazakura sat on the mountain, cradled by the forest, yet with wide pathways which held all sorts of fun places to rest or experience nature, Shinrin was deeply nestled into nature, itself.
The forest was- during spring and summer, anyhow- vibrant with rich, green life. Moss was a common sight, the river that ran nearby was ground level, stones of all kinds could make a temporary sit or a souvenir home...and the trees were big enough to offer shade every which way.
The pathways which would lead visiting acolytes to their training grounds were dappled in sunshine and tree-shade. Outlined with lively plants; some cultivated for a bit of control. Otherwise, it was all kept as natural as possible. Right down to the pebbles beneath Iris' feet, when it came to treading the grounds.
Chores were simple enough. Not intending to stay long, nor with any power to train, Iris found her days filled of assisting with meal prep, repairing clothes, and spending time with visitors who wished to stop by. A familiar set of busywork that had her wistful for Hazakura already...
But this was only her first stop. There was still more to go- some more experiences to be had- before she could finalize her own choices. So, until that day came...
"Milo, yes? Any luck with your novel?" A familiar guest was here today, and with most of her work done, Iris was able to take a small break until dinner. (Though she may divert to check the laundry, if no one else remembers to in time!) Seated on the outside of the temple, it made a nice spot to sit and idle, in such times as these.
And to her question... He can only laugh softly, hand rubbing the back of his head.
"Well, no... Not today, either, I'm afraid. It's why I'm out here, after all: still hoping for that idea to strike." His hands still hold a small, book-like notebook; fingers loosely wrapped around a pen, so that it can tap in a broken rhythm on the open pages. "I just... It feels close enough. But I never seem able to reach it..."
