The Poppy War as lyrics from Untitled #4, if, in fact, they were happier with nothing.
Bonus: Rin if Speer had never been razed and she knew things other than vengeance.

I LOVE THIS
i've seen the nanking massacre acknowledged as an influence for golyn niis but lets also please acknowledge the horrors taken directly from the manila massacre and inserted into golyn niis
rin really is all “i don’t love you and i can kill anything” talk only to later proceed to being unable to kill nezha for a whole book i see how it is
OK BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT THIS WAS AMAZING. the only two people she could never bring herself to kill were Kitay and Nezha. Which is why I actually loved the ending despite other people thinking it was rushed. Because she literally said in the beginning of the Burning God that if she could hurt Kitay and not feel about it, then she was truly lost. Kitay was the one thing grounding her and I think dying by Nezha’s hand was both her redemption and revenge.
Rin and Nezha at the end of the Burning God, but in the lyrics of I Know the End by Phoebe Bridgers.
"Just this night, just this moment, they had entered a liminal space where their past and their future did not matter, where they could be the children they used to be."
"I wish things were different," Nezha said.
"Your republic is dead," Rin said. "And if we see you tomorrow, then so are you."
"But she couldn't see where it ended. She couldn't see where the pain stopped- not for the world, and not for Kitay."
"The world was a better, safer, and more peaceful place without her in it. He believed that. He had to believe that. And yet. And yet."

Chen Kitay from the Poppy War trilogy
MY ENTIRE HEART. and rin's entire heart, save for the little scarred spot that holds Nezha💔
try and tell me that Hold Back the River by James Bay isn't a song retelling of the grotto scene.
"fire and water look so lovely together. it was a pity they destroy each other by nature."
~
"let us hold each other."
more people need to see this bc when i heard this song all i thought about was Nezha begging Rin to just stop, and she just never could.
"tried to keep you close to me, but life got in between"
- in the Drowning Faith when he did that "test" to see if maybe they could find a way after all, but she failed it bc duty got in the way
"Once upon a different life... But now we crawl against the tide, Those distant days are flashing by
- i thought about all the times Nezha had saved her, and also about their Sinegard days it HURTS!!!!!!!!!!
"Hold back the river so I can stop for a minute and be by your side"
- I thought about the scene after the fight in the grotto when Nezha, Rin, and Kitay sat around the fire and talked about how he wished it could have been different. PAIN
i love this book so much
The Poppy War and The Burning God Parallels
oh, my tragic loves
Killer by Phoebe Bridgers, but the parts that remind me of Rin & Nezha from the Poppy War
Rin:
Nezha:
"And there's nothing I can do."
Never say never by the Fray is Rin and Kitay's song. Argue with the wall.
He was her anchor in more ways than one and I can't even begin to talk about the symbolism in their interactions. Their whole bond is just UGH
try and tell me that Hold Back the River by James Bay isn't a song retelling of the grotto scene.
Nezha & Rin in the last chapter of the Burning God
