Swipe for some thoughts from our young persons on our December book club read, Hasan Namir’s ‘God in Pink’ - a revelatory novel about being queer and Muslim, set in war-torn Iraq in 2003. It follows Ramy,  a young gay Iraqi man struggling to find a balance between his sexuality, religion, and culture and Ammar - a sheikh whose guidance Ramy seeks, and whose tolerance is tested by his belief in the teachings of the Qur'an.

🌈 Today marks the start of Non-Binary Awareness Week! 🌈

Held annually during the week surrounding July 14th, Non-Binary Awareness Week shines a spotlight on the experiences, voices, and identities of the non-binary community.

The observance was first launched in 2012 to increase visibility and understanding of non-binary identities, which have existed across cultures and throughout history but are often overlooked and misunderstood in mainstream conversations about gender. July 14th, the midpoint between International Women's Day and International Men's Day, was chosen intentionally to emphasize that non-binary people exist outside—and beyond—the traditional gender binary.

This week is about celebration, education, and advocacy. It’s a chance to spotlight the importance of uplifting non-binary voices and creating space for everyone to live authentically and with pride. 💛🤍💜🖤

Happy #DisabilityPrideMonth2025 from team Mosaic to you!

This July marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights law passed in 1990 that prohibited discrimination based on disability. Disability Pride Month began that same year in Boston and has since grown into an international celebration of identity, visibility, and advocacy. We will be marking the month with a workshop in our young persons club today, and encourage you all to take the opportunity to remember the importance of honouring the past, uplifting disabled voices, and pushing for a future free from barriers!

Split into different activity and sensory areas, this event has been designed to allow persons with neurodivergent conditions, social anxiety, mental health conditions or visual impairments to enjoy the spirit of Pride, meet other people in the community and relax in a calmer environment! For May’s #Lgbt+BookClub, we dove into ‘They Both Die at the End’ by Adam Silvera: a beautifully queer, wildly emotional story about love, mortality, and what it means to really live. 

Silvera’s YA speculative fiction follows Mateo and Rufus - total strangers, who, for different reasons, are both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.

This year’s Summer Camp will run from 27th July-3rd August and is the perfect opportunity for you to take a break from everyday life, enjoy fabulous activities and meet other LGBT+ young persons just like you🌟🌈🌟

Our wonderful mentors and staff will be there to support you throughout the journey and there is no requirement to be part of our regular Young Persons’ Club to join in - we usually have a good mix so there will be plenty of people who haven’t met each other before to get to know.

Today marks the start of #Trans+HistoryWeek — a time to spotlight the stories of Trans, Non-Binary, Intersex, and Gender-Diverse lives throughout history, to celebrate Trans+ joy, and to share some of the histories we were never taught.

These are just a few stories from Trans+ history, and it’s important to note that these histories are often under-recorded, misrepresented, or incomplete. Still, they offer us a powerful glimpse into the lives and legacies of our Trans, Non-Binary, Intersex, and Gender-Diverse predecessors.

April 6th marks International Asexuality Day (IAD)—a global celebration of asexual visibility, awareness, and advocacy! 🌍💜 Established in 2021, #IAD highlights the diverse experiences within the asexual spectrum and promotes the core values of Advocacy, Celebration, Education, and Solidarity. Today, we uplift and support asexual voices worldwide!

March 31st is #InternationalTransDayOfVisibility—a day to celebrate trans and non-binary people while raising awareness of the challenges they face. 🌍🏳️‍⚧️ 

We celebrated this year at our #YoungPersonsClub, where two of our trans young persons led a workshop on the importance of seeing themselves in the media. Visibility matters, representation matters. Today and every day, we uplift trans voices, honour their experiences, and continue advocating for a more inclusive world. 💙💗🤍

Chavela Vargas, the legendary Mexican singer, was not only a trailblazer in music but also a powerful LGBT+ icon. Born in Costa Rica in 1919, Vargas defied societal expectations by embracing her true identity both in her personal life and on stage. 

She became famous for her passionate renditions of rancheras, a traditionally male-dominated genre, singing about love and heartbreak with raw emotion. With her deep, soulful voice, she redefined Mexican music, often performing dressed in masculine clothing and refusing to change pronouns in songs to fit heteronormative expectations. 

For much of her early career, Vargas’ sexuality was an open secret, but in a deeply conservative society, she could not publicly come out as a lesbian until the age of 81. Despite this, she lived authentically, forming relationships with influential women, including rumored romances with figures like Frida Kahlo. 

We celebrate her fearlessness and refusal to conform this #WomensHistoryMonth, as a beacon for the LGBT+ community. Chavela paved the way for queer artists in Latin America and her influence endures, inspiring new generations of musicians and activists to embrace their identities with pride, #MovingForwardTogether.
