Hi all- I donât like doing this, but Iâd really appreciate your help. My cousin recently got out of an emotionally and physically abusive marriage and has to restart her life and her career away from her former husband. As her family weâve tried to help her as much as possible, but she has five young children- all under the age of 11- and they live in a mobile home. Sheâs currently working two jobs to try and make ends meet, but they need money for gas, food, clothes, and other basic living expenses. If you can donate even a bit I would really appreciate it, and if you canât Iâd appreciate it if you could reblog or share this. thank you đ
Yo. I know @your-url-is-problematic. If theyâre asking for help, itâs the real thing. I know weâre all in trouble. But if you can at least share, youâll have my thanks as well.
Does anyone have a mailing address for the Kirk Spock Archive? Need to send fanzines. -Z
I donât believe they have an address, none that I can find but perhaps if you send them to a fan, or scans of them, someone might be able to publish them under her name
Thanks for reply. Iâm looking for where to send 18 file boxes full of fanzines from the 1960s and 1970s. Her instructions just say Kirk Spock Archive.
Hello there, if you still need help with this I have found a lead of sorts. I think the project is called the K/S Library, not archive, since it was recommended to her in this post: https://lspingles.tumblr.com/post/166830209033/so-you-said-you-wrote-trek-fanfic-back-in-the-day
The library is run by The K/S Press, and there's an email address for a contact person on their Fanlore wiki page here: https://fanlore.org/wiki/The_K/S_Press I'd assume getting in touch with them would get the ball rolling. There's also an archive.org link for their old website, since they seem to not have a current one, there might be something useful there.
My heartfelt condolences for your loss. We all love our Fandom Grandma so much.
*** ONLY answer this survey if you are autistic/ neuroatypical *** *** This survey takes around 2-5 minutes to complete. *** Alright autistics, we need to have a conversation. As you know, "high-functioning" vs. "low-functioning" is a dichotomy that doesn't exist in reality. It's based on how neurotypicals perceive disability, which centers around visibility and how much they are inconvenienced by it. This being said, there's a whole range (a spectrum, if you will) of patterns and behaviors associated with autism, and not everyone is the same. The generic "autism spectrum disorder" does more harm than good, in my opinion, as it contains roughly zero information. It's like saying someone has a mood disorder - there's something, but what it is is anyone's guess: is it someone with selective mutism, sensory processing disorder and high performance on academic tests? Is it someone who infodumps about their special interest and misreads situations? Is it someone with ADHD whose conversations with others rarely exceed 15 seconds and has a cognitive disability? It's important to understand the connection between these people. It's important that neurotypicals don't randomly lump some symptoms together. But do you think we could maybe create symptom clusters (call them Type A, B, etc.) that would make it easier for everyone to understand what kind of autistic a person is, without them having to list all the symptoms? Because I believe in the importance of privacy, respect and appropriate interactions. I have put together this survey to see if there are any patterns we could use.

Please reblog this, I want to get as much data as possible
Responses have stopped coming in (Iâve got 40 so far), so Iâm sharing this again. Thanks to all who shared until now!
This is an excellent idea. And for the initial question on whether youâre autistic thereâs a yes (undiagnosed) option, for any self-diagnosed autistics wondering if they can take this.
@candidlyautistic @autismserenity Perhaps you could help this reach a wider audience?

How come they aren't blocking nazis?? Last time Ive checked theyve done more to purport the current admin than any random bloggers, that happen to be ran by russians, who covered actual legitimate concerns in this country i.e. police brutality, anti black racism, Etc. How is making people think these random blogs caused hillary to lose actually helpful? What about the actual fascists in this country?
This whole debacle is making me lose what tiny shred of faith I had in tumblr social justice bloggers. Peopleâs response to tumblr reacting to the revelation that fake news was being spread on this site (a fact which had already been exposed over a month ago) is incredibly sobering to me, but I shouldnât be surprised.
People are either falsely claiming that the Russian governmentâs fake news op on here is a conspiracy to censor real, progressive bloggers OR, like you, are pivoting the issue to complain about tumblrâs failure to police problematic blogs on here, while framing the issue of fake news as less important. I literally saw someone say that porn bots were a bigger problem than fake news/interference in our democracy and tumblr staff was incompetent for tackling fake news but not prioritizing porn bots! Of all things!Â
As my friend kafkinated stated, propaganda doesnât have to persuade you of anything. It can also âexhaust, distract and demobilizeâ you from other issues or changes going on by playing into your âpre-existing worldviews.â Misinformation can even lull you into a sense of security that doesnât exist. Whatever you want to believe or not, the fact remains the same: thousands of people working on behalf of the Russian government impersonated progressive bloggers on tumblr, many of them impersonated Black bloggers. They purposefully disrupted conversation and discourse on this site to sow distraction and exhaustion and appropriated Black suffering and issues to help elect a white supremacist president.
That people donât care MORE about fake news and these threats is very sobering to me. The fact people want to either sweep what happened under the rug, create some conspiracy theory to explain it away, or downplay its importance is also disturbing. The more people act this way, the more victories you hand to Russiaâs fake news campaign. It seems Russia hardly needed even put so much effort into misleading and distracting people when, through your own cognitive dissonance, youâre doing it to yourselves.
If posting facts and realities of police brutality can be compared to insighting naziism and white nationalism (Russian âbotsâ or not) then you are pretending like these issues are opposite ends of a balance; where center is what exactly???
How did these bots undermine of the election system if, from what I have seen of their posts so far, they are basically echoing actual Americans/non-bot bloggers who have these opinions and concerns about our government?
What/where is the misinformation they spread? How did these bots exhaust and distract? Were there really only bots in the âsocial justice/BLMâ section of Tumblr?
Why canât there be transparency about the posts by these blogs so we can observe whether there was misinformation? Do we get to know how they specifically found and purged these bots? When are they purging this site of people and bloggers promoting hate and Nazi ideology as well?
I think itâs fair to say this leaves a lot of unanswered questions and lack of transparency. Not sure how these concerns are a cognitive dissonance as they are critical thinking.
Look.
All the questions you pose here are justifiable, but they arenât unanswered at all? Theyâve pretty much all been addressed and are easy to Google. Tumblr staff worked with the Justice Department and found the blogs by tracking their IP addresses back to known Russian troll farms, as well as talking to Americans the Russians had recruited (the Americans did not know they were communicating with Russians) â here is some information on that. This is the same thing that was done on all other social media outlets that were found to have had this problem. Here is the report from the DOJ, with a link to the actual indictment at the bottom of the page.Â
The blogs exhausted and distracted by the same means all heavily circulated media does â by being highly and repeatedly visible. This⊠is not new information? We see stuff constantly, we absorb it. Consciously or not, we absorb it. Everything from psychology to marketing has confirmed this. Itâs literally what the entire advertising industry is built on. As for the specific misinformation they spread, they took quotes and pictures completely out of context to fuel an anti-Clinton narrative among progressives. Hereâs an example.
And no, there were not only bots in the social justice/BLM section of Tumblr. You can find the list of the bots, and there are some like âguns4l1feâ that were clearly geared toward a more conservative/right-wing audience. This was a widespread campaign â again, not new information. None of this is an indictment on BLM or progressive efforts in general. And frankly Iâve yet to see a single person actually claim that BLM itself was a Russian operation. Iâve only seen people bending over backwards to deny the Russian campaign existed on Tumblr, and using that as a rationalization to ignore the evidence.
Listen, I got the email. That means I reblogged some of this shit. I get that itâs unpleasant and uncomfortable to realize you got played, but we did. Because this was masterfully done. They undermined the system by being thoroughly convincing. These blogs were very well designed to look legitimate, partly by not being only political â they peppered humor, popular culture references, etc. into the political posts. They knew how to imitate Americans and American political/ideological concerns, gain followers, and get traction. And the fact that a lot of what they posted was true added to the effectiveness of the campaign. If it had all been obviously fake, we would not be here.Â
This is not a smear tactic for progressive bloggers or causes. Itâs a crucial acknowledgement of what happened during the 2016 election, and even more to the point itâs an acknowledgement of an ongoing threat. Russiaâs still doing this, and itâs another election year. And these mental gymnastics to avoid facing something that could very well affect us again in November is disingenuous and irresponsible.Â
Okay Tumblr, new goal: letâs not use this secret-Russian-blog fiasco to throw all pro-Black Lives Matter discussion under the bus.
âBlack Lives did not suddenly Stop Mattering just because a government was fraudulently appropriating its message for malicious gain.
Thereâs a style of essay where people try to pitch the subculture of a social network (or, more generally, of a communication medium or social environment) as flowing deterministically from its technical properties. Invariably I feel that it overstates the case, but it is true that the âphysical structureâ of a medium has an effect on the culture and norms that develop there, and even if itâs the lesser part of the outcome, itâs the only part you can control at the stage where youâre designing or selecting a medium, so itâs worth thinking about.
This is a rich vein of thinkpiece material, but Iâm just going to polish up one nugget right now as a proof of concept to help secure financing for a larger expedition.

I mean, there's always the option of doing as the Canadians did and use seances to consult your former political leaders and dead pets on current affairs, but...
Couldnât be any worse than what weâre doing right now. I can easily believe your average psychic (your median medium) is more qualified than most of the Executive branch leadership at the moment.
We canât all have fully formed views on like every political issue. You donât need to take position on every political issue either.
I feel like a lot of us take position before we even are informed, and I feel thatâs a pretty notable issue when it comes to political discussions.
We end up being pressured into taking positions on everything, and then once we need to discuss it⊠A lot of us go off wrong information, we have to go off assumptions, or we take rhetorics from pretty shitty people.
And I think that maybe we should just take off the pressure to take positions⊠Not all of us really have the expertise to come with nuanced beliefs on everything.
When we shouldnât be expected to know everything, we should also then obviously not be expected to have an opinion on everything.
So you know how a lot of medical response to chronic pain and fatigue is âoh just exercise more and youâll be less tired!â
well my mom found an article where it turns out basically all of the data supposedly supporting that is complete bullshit whAT DO YOU KNOW.Â
TURNS OUT YOU CANâT EXERCISE OUT OF BEING IN AWFUL PAIN FROM YOUR *NERVES WORKING WRONG*.Â
Can we please please PLEASE get this to as many notes as possible because you would not freaking believe how important this is (unless you are one of the people going âno shit Sherlockâ at aaaaaall of your doctors rn)
Reblogging because it makes me so fucking mad to see bad science used against disabled folks, and this needs to be boosted to the high fucking heavensâŠ
Yep. As someone with (probably) chronic fatigue syndrome, this makes an awful lot of sense. My experience with exercise is complicated, and it can make things worse just as easily as better. It makes the kind of docs that prescribe exercise and positive thinking as a panacea whenever they donât know what else to do a real pain.

Okay so apparently one of the things that the whole March For Lives things wants to do is let cops have access to mental health records right away no questions asked and like uh no fuck off fuck you and fuck anyone that supports that
nothing could possibly go wrong
is the march for life the thing for âending gun violence(except the state yknow)â?
all crazies must take their pills, go to therapy, and drink water, sweaty. we careâą about your well being.Â
the database is there for YOUR protection
More school cops too! Gee, these kids are nailing it on all fronts.
This is ridiclous because one of the biggest demographics harmed by police brutality are disabled people, many times the police are fully aware of their mental or neurological disability and continue to abuse them anyway because they can! Like holy shit this is a terrible idea
Itâs moments like this that Iâm reminded that these are children who lack nuance who are being guided by adults who also lack nuance and/or purposefully want to shoehorn dangerous shit like this into the âprogressâ being made.
This narrative that the mentally ill are violent and dangerous is pervasive. It invades ideology to the point that people donât even realise the assumption is there. Thatâs whatâs happening here. These are kids. They are absolutely right that change needs to happen, but they have not learnt nuance when it comes to deconstructing the assumptions underlying their theoretical premise. So we get this.
They are of course right that we need new gun laws, but frankly this attitude scares the shit out of me. Because they do not see the danger this poses to the visibly mentally ill. It stigmatises us further and puts us in massive amounts of danger. Doing everything we can to stop the school shootings is good, but this is not going to help.
Because the worst people Iâve ever met for nuance is the police force. Always. If this legislation is passed, forced hospitalization will go up. Police brutality towards the disabled will go up, and to people of colour, because itâs acceptable to hurt the disabled now because weâre dangerous, which compounds the idea that disabled people of colour are super dangerous.
Legislation like this, aside from being invasive, threatening, and violent by nature, will lead to police thinking that attacking the disabled will be something they can get away with more easily than before. It will make the public more frightened of us. It will lead to anonymous tip offs and to violence and death.
Legislation like this fundamentally fails to recognise the disabled as equally human. Itâs dehumanising and terrifying. And it will not be used to prevent violent people from accessing guns. It will be used to allow the scapegoating of the mentally ill for EVERYTHING. Itâs making being mentally ill criminal in and of itself.
What confuses me is that this does NOT sound like what the kids wanted at the march. Some of the kids were openly saying they felt like criminals in their schools because of heightened police in their areas.
