there's like a slightly specific version of the fridged woman trope that spiderverse pulls, which i like to call the "dead daughter at the end of a narrative" trope. fridging can kinda happen to any character's designated Character Motivation Girl, but this type of fridged woman is specifically framed as a twist for the villains motivations. fridged women are often used to justify any amount of violence a male character can do in her honor and this type of woman is no different, it's just that here she's even further turned into a token symbol of innocence. the fact that kingpin is doing all this crazy destruction for the sake of his dead wife and child is meant to be humanizing for him, and it's framed as a twist in his character, something that nuances him at the expense of two women. women are used as tokens to humanize monstrous characters. Another example of this is in the dragon prince, where a man who waged god knows how many years of wars and suffering is given a dead autistic daughter that's meant to humanize his actions, in this instance also framing him as a victim of a cruel world.

because these are framed as the character motivations of our villainous antagonists, you end up with an entire narrative that's written off the back of a fridged woman. hence, at the end of the narrative, setting everything in motion, there's a dead daughter.

because this type of fridged woman exists to make a villain sympathetic, she's framed as a *twist*, and is therefore given even less interiority besides being a token of innocence. her function is to die and make a man sad and vengeful and for the audience to go "oh shit maybe he's like morally gray..."
