Chapter 4 Execution: Yukio Kumagae
With the court room filled with tension and mixed feelings, Yukio calmly waited for his turn to be dragged away, just as all the other culprits had before him. As he felt the chain clasp around his neck, he gave one last look to his fellow classmates before being dragged out of the court room.
After a few moments that feel excruciatingly long due to the severe discomfort of being dragged by the neck, the chain finally lets go. Instead of the trial room, the only thing Yukio can see is heavy woods completely surrounding him.
The simulated forest has an almost cartoonish feel to it, as if he had been dropped off on a movie set or in some god awful video game. Hesitantly, Yukio picks himself up off the g round and goes to take a step-- but stops instantly as he notices a rather menacing bear trap in his path. Without another glance, he simply moves around it, his steps still cautious. He was a survivalist, this was something he did for a living, and this situation was no different. As long as he had the will to survive, he could surely make it out of this.
In fact, his confidence was building up a little as he avoided the increasingly frequent traps in his path. If this as all the bear had in store for an execution, it was doing a piss poor job at it. Yukio could even see a clearing now, and he didn't waste a second in going towards it, still being mindful of his step as he dashed for the clearing.
When he arrived, his face instantly fell at the sight in front of him. A giant actual Monobear stood in the middle of the clearing. Yukio contemplates running, but with so many traps placed all around the clearing as well as behind him, it would be way too risky. The only option was to go forward and fight it himself. He had done this before, so doing it again should be manageable--- at least that's what he hopes for.
The plan is confirmed when the bear rushes towards Yukio, who is completely unarmed, but ready to do whatever it takes to survive. Just as he's about to face off the bear, Hayato swoops down with a screech, attacking Monobear from above with his talons in an attempt to rip it open. It gives Yukio some time to move into a more advantageous position, as well as observe the bear. His eyes fall to a very conveniently placed button on the back of the bear's neck, and it's very apparent how he can get out of this. All he needed to do was press that button and he'd be good to go.
Just as he's about to put that plan into action, the Monobear turns on Hayato, effectively ending the falcon's life before turning back to Yukio, clearly enraged. With nothing to lose, Yukio lunges for the button, but is instantly swatted away by the aggravated bear. The attacks are relentless, and it gets to the point where the only thing Yukio can do is dodge and hope to avoid the sharp teeth and claws that are hellbent on tearing him apart.
He succeeds for the most part, until sharp metal claws dig into his shoulder and knock him off balance. There's an almost sickening sense of deja vu, followed by an intense sharp pain travelling up his leg. It only takes a few moments to connect the dots, and a hesitant look down to his leg confirms the worst. He had been caught in one of the traps.
Frantically, he tries to pull himself free, but it's no use. Even if he did get loose, there's no way he could fight or outrun the rapidly approaching bear. Still, he has to try, and he keeps doing so even as the bear closes in. At that point, it's all over, and a robotic, metallic sounding roar followed by Yukio's horrified and pained face as the bear moves in for the kill is the last thing that's shown before the screen cuts to black.
