🍄🟫🍄Super Mario Galaxy🍄🍄🟫
Hey everyone so….i’m back from watching the Mario movie. I have a lot of thought and feelings about this, and I’m gonna write a review of my impressions…
(.because why not, who’s gonna stop me?)
First of all I’d like to compliment the people who made this. In my humble …opinion…the Super Mario movies made so far have been really good pieces of creative work. The storytelling is thought out, both borrowing aspects from the video games and adding their own unique elements to the ‘supper mario soup’.
The animation is beautiful and the characters designs are respectful to their original, all while being very nice looking and adding depth to the characters themselves.
The visual world building is beautiful and i especially loved the way they integrated the gravity thing into peach’s fight scene.
….especially I love the whole sequence where Mario and peach are running through the Fire thing and we get parts with them on the screen in original pixel Mario style. The transitions are just so smooth in that section and I think the integration of it was brilliant.
I really really love the frog mode Luigi. Idk why, I just love it. I find it absolutely adorable, and I love the callback to the old ‘The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!’

Now ….all that considered:
I have some …issues (not really issues but critical comments)….with this movie.
I know a lot of people were saying that the first Mario Bros movie was better.
That this second one just “doesn’t carry the same magic the first movie did”. Or that, “it doesn’t add anything new in value to the Mario franchise.”
But I actually disagree with that. I think this movie was great… and in fact it does add some interesting thoughts to the Nintendo franchise.(and Mario franchise by extent.)
My problem was that … this movie seemed like it was gonna go to a big scale and it did… at least it tried to. And this might be a hot take for some, but I actually think the movie was too short.
Way too short. And I know this is a problem with a lot of movies nowadays, not just this one. But 98 minutes is simply not enough for all of the different plot elements they put in there.
By the end of the movie I had more questions than I had before I started watching the movie.(Wich can be good for marketing since I’ve heard that a third Mario movie is already being rumored) But in this case they added a bunch of plot points that kinda just …. we’re left hanging by the end of the movie and it didn’t seem… very intentional.
…..For example, the plot point that I found most frustrating: whatever the hell happened with Bowser.
I thought that by the end of the movie they would do something and like he wouldn’t just stay bones and stuff.. but no.. even the little segment during the end credits shows us that he is sitting in jail with his son and he is still bones.
This is frustrating to me … both because I have a bias towards Bowser and because I personally think it isn’t the best decision. I think they were trying to recreate that situation with how they turned bowser small in first movie to make people wonder how that’s gonna affect him in the next movie. But personally I only found it disappointing.
I loved the whole character development and buildup we got with bowser, showing us that he can change as a character and showing his softer side in his interactions with bowser junior.(and dare I say Luigi in some moments)
it was so beautiful….only for it to be all ripped away from me when bowser went back to being ‘evil king or whatever’(and I get it he’s a major villain in the games so you can’t just ..give him a way out of it like that but come on-😭)
Other than that they introduced a lot of ideas to the super Mario world that weren’t explored upon what so ever.(I get it third movie..whatever)
I’m talking the concept of the Nintendo franchise all being instigated into eachother …like a sort of spider verse multiverse of games type of thing. (As we saw with star fox and the bowser junior brush drawing Mr. Game & Watch)
The whole idea behind Rosalina and Peach being sisters and having this magical all powerful bond between them.
Mario and Peach tension that I think they could have handled better.(And I’m not saying cringe wise…i think a world without cringe would be boring we absolutely need a bit of cheesiness here and there. I think that the whole progression with the Mario x Peach ship was handled poorly and one sided with this movie. The end scene where she pecks him on the cheek feels extremely out of the blue and undeserved and…also idk..I feel like I would’ve like that movie more without it, just because it feels like it was just thrown in there to get the shipper’s eyeing.)
These and a few other little details that felt like they had huge potential, were kinda just out in there with no further development. And I felt like that was such a bummer.
Also I had expectations that Daisy would show up in this movie…it doesn’t disappoint me too much that she doesn’t but still.
Also….the shipper bait. We need to talk about the shipper bate. I know there was a person on the team who at least knew of the whole Bowser x Luigi conundrum and decided to throw in a little queerbaiting in there for good measure. Because you ain’t telling me you look at this and tell me it ain’t ship bait.
I’m sorry but that look is the same look Nala gave to Sima in lion king and people were jokingly saying it should’ve made the movie Pg13.
Just look at the comparison :😭(not one for on but c’mon)
We did indeed get fed I’m just saying🥲
umm….i think this post has gotten way to long, I might need to yap later but for now I think I’m done.
In all this movie was a great experience , 7.5/8 out of ten would recommend especially if you’re a Bowigi fan.
