One of the best known of Zeno’s problems is the Dichotomy Paradox, or the ‘paradox of cutting in two.' For more than 2,000 years, Zeno’s paradoxes have inspired mathematicians and philosophers to better understand the nature of infinity. But to be honest, we’re still scratching our heads!

Neuropsychology is truly one of those fields which leave you in awe and awaiting how something of that caliber could change philosophical theory.

Philosophy is no more or less than the search for wisdom. It deals with all manner of problems which everyone faces in their lives, and by thought and logic attempts to solve them. Since we live in a terrifically complex universe lots of philosophy is itself, very complex. Modern academic philosophy can be almost impenetrable to an outsider, and anything not couched in the terms of the academic philosopher is considered simple musing. However, philosophy has thankfully provided lots of short, pithy philosophical statements to ponder. Here are ten of the best one-liners drawn from Western philosophy.
If one turns to metaphysics in the twentieth century and beyond, it becomes necessary to distinguish “Philosophy in China” from “Chinese Philosophy”. Like almost everywhere else in the world, the twentieth century in China was characterized by the incorporation of ideas from other cultures, most obviously from Europe. The terms “philosophy” and “metaphysics” were introduced as distinct concepts through translation and thus they become the objects of conscious reflection. Even scholars dedicated to “Chinese Philosophy” set themselves in dialogue with the West, so that almost all philosophy was more or less comparative. The main influences from Europe were Kant, Hegel, and Marx, but a wide range of philosophers were incorporated, including Nietzsche, Bergson, Dewey, and Heidegger. Almost all of the major philosophers in China—from Xiong Shili 熊十力 (1885–1968) to Feng Youlan 馮友蘭 (1895–1990) to Mou Zongsan 牟宗三 (1909–1995)—were concerned with establishing a metaphysical foundation for Chinese Philosophy. These philosophers, drawing on resources from multiple cultures and traditions, are better suited for an entry on “Metaphysics” than one on “Metaphysics in Chinese Philosophy”.
Bhakti a path to the realization of God.
When knowledge of Brahman takes the form of bhakti (path of devotion), it becomes the means for moksa (liberation)… To the Advaitin, bhakti is a means to the attainment of jnana (knowledge), whereas, to the Visistadvaitin, bhakti is the summum bonum of religious experience. It is an upaya (means), a sure method of obtaining blessings of the Supreme Self. It is also the ultimate purusartha (goal), since there is no higher mortal state.
Bhakti is expounded upon in the Upanisads, Puranas, Bhagavad Gita, Agamas, and Bhaktisutras. Narada defines bhakti as intense love for God that is inexplicable. It is, according to him, like a dumb man who has tasted delicious food but cannot speak about it.
Bhakti is defined as a realization of God, accompanied by a deep love without attachment to the desired object, as God is entirely possessed by and absorbed in the devotee. Bhakti is…not the means to any other goal; it is the highest goal, the easiest of all and superior to all. It fills the self with complete peace and ecstasy of supreme joy.
The essentials of bhakti are thus constituted by the idea of absoluteness, reciprocity, and unconditionality. The supreme value of bhakti is the accessibility of the Lord to his bhakti and adaptability to his devotional needs. Brahman, the transcendental one without a second, is overpowered by daya (compassion) and enters into the heart of humanity, or jiva-loka, and incarnates in any form to satisfy the needs of love and bhakti.
We should, we think, offer our salutations to these great personalities of that day, whose works and lives were equally encyclopedic.

Yes, we have the biological apparatus that allows us to act altruistically. But it also allows us to be cruel, manic, or plain solipsistic.

In human affairs, we can see that there are forces making for happiness, and forces making for misery. We do not know which will prevail, but to act wisely we must be aware of both.
