For the love of god if your native language is different from the majority language of the country youโre living in donโt raise your baby speaking the local language. Either have each parent speak to them in a different language or only speak your native language at home. The kid will be okay. Get your native language in their head. You may think youโre helping them in the long term giving them the local language but no. When theyโre an adult theyโll wonder why you never taught them your language. They can and will learn the local language in school. Theyโll be okay. Produce more bilingual children. They are good for society.
And also, being bilingual helps with executive function. Not all kids have to reach the same language development at the same time as everyone else, itโs okay to have your kid speaking in more complex sentences a month or so later than the โnormalโ kids.
I've studied the science linguistically but I'd like to put that aside. PLEASE teach your kid the native language. It can go so much deeper than "wondering why", it can create a schism-like pain when you know there's a heritage you have but all access has been cut off. Yes, ALL. If you're fortunate enough to visit the country of your native language but dont teach your kid, they will be miserable, quiet, and alone, and go through difficult phases of hating that heritage because the ladders were cut for them.
And in the United States, this starts young. I've seen teachers tell a Kazakhstani parent that she should tell her kid to speak English INSTEAD. The kid was 2 and a half. A friend's five year old told him "Dad this is America we dont speak Chinese". If you don't teach your kid your native language this country will wrest all pride and heritage from them by force. An occasional visit or two to the home country will not stop the bleeding.
The pain of not speaking the language of my heritage is something I don't wish on anyone. And that language is one of the most spoken in the world, imagine if your native language is rarer. What happens? What happens?
When you read this post in a different context than the US, everything is very confusing until you realize it's written from a US perspective where being bilingual is something almost exclusive of the children of immigrants.
There are millions and millions of us for whom our native language is very much not the majority language of our country, but at the same time is our local language (and the majority language acts as our second language).
There are endangered languages on every continent of the world because people teach their children the majority language instead of their native language so I very much doubt that this problem doesnโt exist where you are.

I am actually doing a TOP SECRET [REDACTED] project where I am drawing something similar to this!
IF we're going off of my real and honest opinions, I have seen many people assign dwarf to the Minyards and Changeling to Neil, and bard to nicky HOWEVER! as someone who has played with so many specific options.... these are my thoughts >:3
Disclaimer: this would be SOLELY stat based, not as much physically relevant.
Neil: He's a tiefling (probably 1/2 halfling). He's a fighter (battle master) Bard (college of eloquence). Everyone says he's a changeling rogue but that's just not true, he's versatile, not stealthy. He's fast because he can walk his way into and out of anywhere, people SEE him--they just don't recognize him. His fighting style is dueling.
Kevin: He might be a half-elf (moon elf or aevendrow). Paladin fs, oath of the crown turned oathbreaker maybe reinstated into a different oath after his recovery. He's the face of redemption to everyone.
Andrew: Half-elf. (tilda Sun Elf, dad halfling?) DEFINITELY a rogue assassin.

Nicky: fire genasi? he's a half sun elf from luther's side, maria might be a genasi! NOT a bard, he would actually be a sorcerer of wild magic maybe with a couple levels in warlock (could Erik be his Celestial patron??)
Aaron: Half-elf (same) he's a cleric of the order domain, he's a tank despite being a healer, he can hurt with his magic as much as he can heal. He worships Tyr, if anything its more mutual respect than devotion.
Renee: Gnome (svirfneblin specifically), monk (way of mercy), she would be religious but I don't think she would be a cleric unless its a multiclass.
Allison: Githyanki. Her family wanted her to follow the lineage but she wanted to do her own thing, she's a college of swords bard.
Dan: I think she would be a dwarf barbarian, she's beatiful but GOD can she beat you up. Also good leaders, she'd probably be a battlerager.
Matt: He would be a Satyr and (circle of the land) druid. Again, he's not so much a tank as people think, but he's a great dps and support for when his team needs him.
Now, idk about many other characters bUT
Jean: Shadar-kai, fighter (probably a champion). Sold to the Moriyamas.
side note: would the Moriyamas then be like the Baenres? perhaps a branch of the family from the matriarch.... thoughts...
Jeremy: maybe an aasimar? also magic class, but I don't know him well enough and multiclassing could be fun for him. Maybe sorcerer/bard since he's such a bright presence.
Bonus Riko: the ugly! definitely a Udadrow, raised in the underdark, He was supposed to succeed his brother in tier-breche and wanted to make it into sorciere but he never made it past melee-magthere. I think that Tetsuji would've taken kevin (especially if he was half-aevendrow) and enrolled him into tier breche to be taught "the proper way of the drow" aka Lolth worship, ig the ravens would be spiders?
also! my favorite Bg3 character is Gale Dekarios (Sorry I know he's a cringe cliche nerd, but he's so pathetically dear to my heart!)

BARD-FIGHTER NEIL ๐๐๐ No I agree I don't like rouge for him. Not the vibes. (Also can we imagine Neil with tiefling eyes ๐คฉ)
Paladin Kevin intrigues me ๐ If I'm being entirely honest I see Kevin as a bard cause of the persona he has to put on. He would have a great man behind the mask aesthetic but the idea of such a changing oath for him as a Paladin is cool ๐

Love Aaron and patron just vibing. 100% on the cleric. Also the twinyards being half elves. Not belonging anywhere particular in society. It's perfect ๐ญ

We love DPS Matt. He does give nature vibes, oddly enough. I could see him being a warlock who has to break a pact with his patron, also.

I do nottt! I have all the build Kits, all the expansions (minus the two new ones from this year) and MOST of the gamepacks (except batuu, even though I love starwars).
I REALLY want the fairy pack, but I cannot justify giving $40 whole dollars to EA, I usually wait a year or two and buy the packs discounted. I genuinely think the only pack I ever bought in preorder was Highschool years and i don't regret it for the build/buy! but i don't think any of the new packs are interesting enough for me to cave...
however i am so excited for fairies, but due to the scary news about EA being sold to icky people (see lilsimsies video for ref) I don't know if next year I will continue giving my money to EA as a company... it really depends on how things move along, but I hope it doesn't go to shit because the sims 4 has been my comfort game for nearly a decade.
I don't play it too often during school time, but I do have like 3,200 hours ish? on it. Lmao, I am a HEAVY builder, but actually just recently lost ALL my save and tray files because my old laptop died.... And there was no way to recover the game files from the hard drive๐ฅด
It's okay though, I grieved and I'm okay! Just means I get to build more... I do have the old screenshots of most of my saves too, so I can recreate a lot of builds and stuff if I wanna, I probably won't though, I should also post them to the gallery more lolll

No I'm a big fan of lilsimsie I saw that EA caved. I hope they live the game as is. I don't want to give money to that kind of corporation so I do sales + creator codes too. As long as the game stays the same and they let the sims team do what they've been doing I can live with it (don't have to like it though ๐ญ)
LITERALLY THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. Moved computers and my saves were gone ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ Sometimes it's good to start fresh, I suppose. I had too many saves before now I feel a lot better with more organized files.

Still, I really like that particular idea. I think there's a lot of diferent ways to do it and all of them are really interesting. I haven't actually read a lot of fics about it though.
I kinda like the idea that Mary puts Neil in prison for a bit to be able to move better on her own and distract Nathan or lead him away and then she goes back to pick him up. Kinda like a twisted version of daycare.
Inside Neil meets Andrew and though he knows he shouldn't he hangs around him. They talk and bond. There are a lot of lies between them, especially on Neil's side, but I imagine Neil has never been as close to truthful with anyone before as he is with Andrew (aside from Mary). I imagine Neil takes the opportunity to play exy inside, or maybe he just practices a little. Andrew of course, notices (this has absolutely nothing to do with Andrew's decision to co rinse playing exy, not at all).
Neil has to leave and they don't see each other again. Andrew pretends Neil didn't matter at all, but when one day Kevin forces him to watch the audition tape of the newest fox he immediately recognices Neil and insists on going with to pick him up.
I imagine the monsters, and everyone else too, have no idea what to do with the whole situation. They clearly have something going on (and of course Andrew and Neil don't really tell anyone else what the hell is going on). I imagine Andrew to be a bit angry about the whole situation and Neil is struggling even more with the idea of leaving Andrew again).
There're lots of ways to play this and I think all of them are awesome. Tbf I think aftg is awesome so it's no surprise.
How were you thinking of going at it?? I'm really curious to see your version of this AU, I'm sure it'll be great.

Maybe Neil tried to snag smth and he wasn't as careful as he should've been (cause he's younger) or somebody asked him where his parents were and he was kind of resistant and when they called the police he ran away, so he ends up getting caught and Mary can't get him out of it this time so she's like working sort of on the side to get him out before Nathan finds out.

I'm glad you mentioned this cause I actually didn't really have anything planned for when they got out and I couldn't decide if they met again before the foxes cause like it feels a little coincidental but I wasn't sure.
I'm imagining Neil being like furiously loyal to Andrew and it's like how he was when they were in Juvie and Andrew is struggling with it so much, Aaron only has so much context, and the rest of the foxes are COMPLETELY in the dark. You're right Andrew would be pissed but I think like in a "I hate you" (not actually) sort of way.

I like the idea of them not seeing each other until the foxes, but it would also be so nice if Neil managed to sneak a letter to the prison right around the time Andrew is set to be released. I do imagine Andre being in Juvie before and after Neil and I dont think he would be released earlier due to good behavior, so Neil would probably know exaclty when is his last chance to get a message to Andrew.
Ohhhhh, I hadn't thought as far as Neil's kidnapping, but now I can't stop. I think it would definitely change things. Maybe Neil tells Andrew about the countdown, and they are both helplessly stuck watching the date get closer and closer. How would the promise to protect Neil work out? How awful would it be for Andrew to see Neil leave him again? Maybe he refuses to let Neil go on his own, and they get taken together. The angst potential in that is brutal.
And now I can't stop thinking about how this AU would affect Thanksgiving or Neil's Christmas break at the Nest. Ohhhh I really should stop going down that route. I'm hurting my own feelings.
And yeah, I would love to read whatever ideas you come up with.
Also, what blog is the fic recommendation one?? I probably have already heard about it, but my brain isn't cooperating rn and I defiently don't want to miss out on it if I don't actually know it.
Andrew would somehow keep tabs. I'm obsessed with the idea of them keeping in contact via letter now actually omg. I'd have to check the timeline for their backstories again but I'm sure I can find a spot where for some reason they stopped keeping in touch (not by choice, honestly probably Mary but like I said I would have to consult the wiki)
Screaming crying throwing up thinking of Andrew freaking out trying to figure something out once he finds out about the count down. I'm thinking once the initial tension and anger gets resolved they're like attached at the hip sort of childhood friends style even before they're romantically involved but once Neil gets the countdown there's not even going to class alone cause I'm thinking they still make the promise. Omg omg you're right there's so many open possibilities with that. Ugh the idea of them getting taken together is very complicated but you're right the angst is ๐ค
