Wingdings holy shit some of y'all are on a whole different level of galaxy wizard brain batshittery and I am in awe.
This one is about my story Underpowered. A bit more in-depth, since I’ve got a LOT of ideas. We’ll start with some of the pillars of the world, I guess.
Underpowered is a world filled with magic, three distinct types: Mana, Ki, and the Magic’s dubbed ‘old magic’.
Mana: Drawn in from the air around the user, Mana is a powerful and universal magic. Broken into elements like in many other stories, it is useful in a variety of roles in society. Most species have a very limited capacity to harness this though, and so simple, creative spells are much more common over large devastating ones. One can forcibly draw in more Mana, but this process burns nerves, causing incredible pain, and permanent damage, so it is hard and not a good idea to do, this process is called ‘Mana-Burn’. Mana and Ki have a volatile reaction when mixed, making it unfavorable to use both without incredibly good control.
Ki: Drawn from within the soul, Ki is used to enhance the body. Unlike Mana, there is no way to over use this, as it is essentially the excess dregs of one’s will. The most effective way to use this power is in set, practiced ‘skills’ where Ki’s power is amplified, rather than a full-body enhancement styled power.
Old Magic: Drawn from the powers of old gods, this magic is unpredictable, ritualistic, and considered no longer modern. The power and drawbacks depend entirely on an old god’s will, which many currently worshipped gods deem unacceptable.
To everyone who has lush fields ripe with story ideas but is struggling to go out and actually harvest them with your writer’s scythe: that’s alright. There’s a reason.
I see writers despairing or making self-deprecating jokes about how many wips they have, as if the ability to come up with the idea is equal to the ability to finish it out into an end product.
It isn’t.
A lot of our ideas come about, not because we were determined to be productive writers, but because daydreaming is an internal escape from life’s demands.
Writing is a demand, too.
Resting and relaxing are basic needs, unlike the high level, abstract satisfaction of being creatively productive. That’s why you might daydream (which is a mild and normal form of dissociation) ideas that you feel good about, and then struggle to research, write the words, fill plotholes, check grammar, revise— all the critical thinking and executive function things involved in creation. Your basic needs must be satisfied before your higher needs can be met effectively.
So, if you’re daydreaming about your stories extensively to mitigate stress, it’s expecting a lot of your stressed self to return from fantasy land, sit down in the cold hard real world and do the hard work to write masterpieces of literature. Those operations are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Writing is hard. Making yourself feel guilty is only going to make it harder. You don’t have to atone for entertaining or distracting your mind by making that available to other people. Daydreaming is a valid end in itself.
Don’t feel bad about having ideas but not being able to write them. Scribble some notes if you can, if you want, but above all enjoy the escapism and take care of yourself first. The words will come after.

I have a ton of stories to tell from the deep recesses of my brain.
Underpowered: Fantasy story about a lot of things, home to my punching bag OC Zeryth Maelfrost. World in strife, inequality, powerful nations overexerting their power over the people of the world, and a lot of blood and gore.
Moonshiners: Cyberpunk/Sci-Fi story about a dude in his 30’s, Garik, who finds himself in another world in the far future. He falls in with a gang that manufactures a combat drug affectionately called Gin. Hopeless in the world without crime, he tries his best to protect his found family.
Change: A story I want to make into a branching Visual Novel, about a girl starting in middle school, spanning until she’s old. Not much is concrete here yet, but me and my partner are working together on this one! The world is modern, but fantastical, humans, fantasy races, Demi-humans, anthros, all live together in harmony in this world. The main character, Tsuki has a best friend who is a raccoon girl named Riley, more to say about this later!

funniest thing about the “reddit migration” is that I haven’t seen a single post shitting on anyone coming from Reddit. when twitter started bleeding users everyone was firing rent-lowering posts but with redditors skittering about we’ve left the doors open and put out food bowls
An asshole adult in a position of authority punishes children collectively and tells them "you have {insert child here} to blame". The children all then blame that child even though it makes much more logical sense to blame the asshole adult.
This prepares them for times when rich people dehumanize the working class and tell them "you have immigrants and welfare queens to blame". It makes much more logical sense to blame the rich people who actually cause the problem, but people were trained from a very young age to blame whoever they're told to blame. Fighting back against the actual source of the problem is not even considered an option.
