You don't even have to read mike as bi for this symbolism to have meaning. Mike could absolutely be using Jane as a sort of "replacement" or an "outlet" for his feelings for Will, as he absolutely has noticed the similarities between the two. His feelings are for Will, but because he sees those feelings as wrong, he's projecting them onto Jane instead. This sucks for all parties obviously. Will deserves to be loved by Mike, Mike deserves to feel love truthfully and honestly, and Jane deserves to be loved for who she is, not for who Mike wants her to be.

i’m no scientist but season 1 is the best season and season 2 is the best sequel to season 1 that also has its own strengths. season 3 marks the tonal shift into a different show from s1/2 and feels like its own, worse thing. season 4 is the sequel to s3 and is better than s3 but not s1/2. season 5 is garbage.
