friendly reminder to use a read more for your fics!
HOW to do it:
-desktop: make a new paragraph and click the three dots, and it should say ‘keep reading.’ this is your read more. if you save as a draft and come back later, that might disappear, so make sure it’s there before you post
-mobile: type the following: [[/MORE]] yes all caps, yes the square brackets, but without the slash (so it should look like [[M, no space between the brackets and the word). make it its own paragraph. same deal with saving as a draft - always be certain it’s there before you hit post
WHY would you do it?
-if someone has to scroll through (what i’m sure is a very good!) 12k fic to see the next post, it’s not a very fun time
-if someone is interested in (what i’m sure is a very good!) your fic by the first few paragraphs that you put before the read more, then of course they’ll click the read more so they can, you know, read more! if not, hey, your extra few seconds spared them the hassle of scrolling past something that just isn’t their cup of tea!
-if your story includes triggers, consider the unsuspecting blogger’s screen freezing, or their scrolling rhythm messes up, and they’ve just been subjected to seeing a trigger they were trying to avoid because your (certainly very good!) story isn’t behind a read more
in conclusion
please use a read more they’re better for everyone involved
^^^ THIS!!!
-Your readers may also not want to reblog a long story with no “read more” because of these reasons, even if they really enjoy it. Want more reblogs on your long fics? Put in a cut!!
