Government of Alberta: Alberta Sex Ed needs to be comprehensive and inclusive.

Currently, the Alberta Sex Education program does not include important aspects such as a comprehensive education of Consent, the various forms of contraception beyond condoms and birth control pills, and LGBTQ+ issues until highschool if at all. Students have the right to be able to know and undertsand their bodies and various orientations as they grow and develop. As Sex Education is something that helps us make healthy decisions both in school and all throughout our lives, it should be treated as that important. With a comprehensive and inclusive Sex Ed, teen pregnancy rates can decrease and students can learn the various ways to keep their bodies safe from harm. Alberta needs a new Sex Ed curriculim that doesn't shame, and places fact above values. This is important as we live in a multicultural province with many different religious groups and people with various values.  This petition is a call for Alberta Government to reassess the Sex Education and provide students with what they need to feel supported, knowledgable, and confident in their decisions.  Twitter: @TheSexEdTalk

Comprehensive Sex Education does not promote sexual behaviour. It does however lower the risk of teen pregnancy, lowers transmission of STD/STIs.

Edmonton school board drops abstinence-based sex ed after complaint

The Edmonton Public School Board has said it will tell teachers not to use an anti-abortion centre to teach part of its sexual education curriculum, after a McNally high school student filed a human rights complaint over what she was taught.

People need to keep up this discussion and fight for our rights to have factual, equal, and inclusive sex education! There are still a lot of things that need work.

My daughter was only taught biological function for both anatomies last year (Grade 6). While it was great that the entire class learned what a maxi pad looked like, and how to use it, this topic was covered at home much earlier than age 12. As evidence is showing that children are going through puberty at younger ages, some of this material was a moot point for some students. I do applaud having male and female students being taught together.
