Choosing the right supplements
I like to visit Vitamin Shoppe and browse all the supplements. They have all kinds of crazy things ... some of which I wonder should even be available over the counter!
There is no replacement for a good diet and hard work. Until you have those in place, don't even bother with supplements! I'll say it again: If your food and routine aren't on lock DON'T FUCK WITH SUPPLEMENTS. You're just hemorrhaging money at that point.
But once you do, the right supplement can give you an edge here are the supplements I've seen good results with:
1. Creatine: I just get the Creatine Monohydrate powder. I put a scoop in my water bottle every morning.
2. Whey protein: The bang for the buck is tremendous. I take my whey after I've had time to cool down from my workout. If I'm still hot, it makes me queasy. I typically mix it with coconut milk.
3. BCAAs: I take these immediately after I work out. Since I've begun taking these, I've added 5 pounds of muscle. And with the fruity flavor most of them come in, it's refreshing after a WOD.
1. Preworkout: I don't like to use it every time, but I'll do it if I'm feeling worn out after work and before an evening workout. Don't cross with coffee. Monitor your heart rate!
2. Gatorade: Maybe this isn't technically a supplement, but you should treat it as such. Don't just drink Gatorade as a drink! I use it for emergencies only. ie I'm working out in 95 degrees and the humidity is 85%.
What supplements do you use?
