hey! you can call me k. i'm an ancient history nerd and hellenic polytheist. i'm a reconstructionist of about three years with a special love for eleusis. i worship all the theoi, but i'm especially devoted to demeter, dionysus, apollon, and aphrodite. i greatly enjoy helping others learn about the theoi, and my ask box is always open, so feel free to shoot me questions.

the fact that zeus is not only a paternal god but also one who has explicitly carried and given birth to his own children... i think it's beautiful & i would love to see more depictions of zeus as the patron and protector of pregnant trans men.

alsooo smth smth zeus consuming metis is actually really wild because zeus' mind is such a major part of his power. the mind of zeus is holy and unknowable and the mind of the universe itself. and metis' name literally means wisdom/cunning and there is even a homeric epithet for him coming from that word. metis is the embodiment of that cunning intellect and she is feminine!!!! the mind of zeus is embodied as a feminine being and zeus integrates her into himself and the product of that union is athena, who governs war and philosophy and politics– the realms of men– in the appearance of a woman (and also rules over weaving, the primary activity of women). and she was birthed by the Father King. i mean can you ask for more divine androgyny?

Dionysian grapevine 🍇

The pose, fashion choice & jewelry were inspired by the previous Indo-Greek bodhisattvas that which I had once shown and reblogged here - compassionate figures who delayed their Buddhahood & help prayers/worshippers to achieve nirvana in their cycle of samsara. (which kind of fit well on the “death, resurrection and rebirth” theme of Dionysus, to be honest; besides his journey spreading the knowledge of “winemaking and its cultivation” across the Mediterranean, Middle East-North Africa, and South Asia. From being almost butchered by the Titans, later being driven mad by Hera to rescuing his mother & lover, Semele and Ariadne from the underworld realm of Hades in some myths.) Despite sharing some similarities with early Christian saints, such as them dressed in princely fine robes and bejeweled from hair to toe, bodhisattvas do not associate with any historical persons or martyrdom at all.

The background was inspired by various late Roman - early Byzantine golden frescoes and mosaics of lush grape vines, specifically, the one they found in the Vatican underground necropolis (with the god “Sol Invictus” in the center, identified with “Helios” of the Greeks) and this Pompeii piece which currently exhibited in the National Archeological Museum of Naples.
