I haven’t been writing lately but things didn’t go according to what I had expected recently. I was way too disappointed and mentally exhausted to even think about writing. My bad. It didn’t last long though. I was lucky to have an enormous support from the national agency so that I could transfer smoothly to another organisation here in Malta. :) I spent the remaining months of my EVS volunteering at Karl Vella Foundation (KVF).
KVF provides various educational and psychosocial assistances for children whose families are dealing with loss. I really liked it there. I finally found a balance between working, playing, and learning. My supervisors were kind, understanding and very supportive about me and my future. I feel that I am not alone anymore as I always worked in team and responsibilities given to me never felt like a burden anymore.
It is also never boring when you work with the children. There are always a lot of things to do, from arts and crafts, homework, yoga, music, to outdoor activities, and the list goes on.
I worked mostly with the older children. Believe me or not, I could learn so much from them. Additionally, during my free time, I also managed to learn how to sew and make my own heart-shaped cushion for the first time. I am so proud of myself. :)))
Long story short, I feel incredibly lucky with the entire experience. It’s sad that it had to come to an end, but at the same time, I know that it’s time for me to start a new journey.
I’m also taking this opportunity to encourage young people to join ESC so that you can experience volunteering abroad. Getting out of your comfort zone for a change. :) It is not easy and yes, you might face challenges along the way or things might not turn out the way you want them to be, but I believe that these challenges will help you discover parts of yourself that you never even knew existed. You’ll most likely become stronger and independent too. Another plus is that you will get the opportunity to meet and be friends with people from a lot of different countries, which will broaden your mind and perspective about the world completely.
So, if you decide to go for ESC, my only advice for you is to always be mindful when choosing the organisation and project you’d want to be part of. It’s okay to ask a lot of questions. Choose a project that interests you so that you won’t spend hours and hours regretting and complaining about it. Just kidding. You’ll have the best time of your life for sure. :) x
