Gloomy Bear Zombie Plush!!
The fact that I can't think of any big Odyssey adaptations that include Nausicaa makes me so sad and frustrated.
Because Nausicaa and Arete are really important if you look at the Odyssey with gendered politics in mind.
Odysseus' success and failures boil down to essentially 2 things- the loyalty/disloyalty of his men, and the favor/hostility of powerful women.
Circe is deadly foe and then key ally after being overpowered. Calypso acts benevolent but keeps Odysseus trapped. Scylla and the Sirens both represent the feminine as a natural disaster, unreasonable, unconquerable, maybe survivable if you keep your distance.
Penelope is Odysseus' goal, but could also be his final undoing, as Clytemnestra was to Agamenmon.
And of course, Athena, patron goddess and guide.
And then you have Nausicaa. Odysseus washes up on her shores, naked and alone, mirroring Calypso. But Nausicaa does not exploit his vulnerability- she deftly understands the potential politics at play and assists Odysseus while granting him his dignity. With her help he wins over Arete, the real power behind the throne, and he is granted the highest hospitality and, at last, a way home. They stand as a foil and a mirror with many of the other women in the Odyssey- what is the proper role of a noble woman? How to wield that power in a way that is helpful and just, noble and kind.
Odysseus has seen so much deception and betrayal since leaving Troy. He has been warned that Penelope might mirror her cousin, clytemnestra, and be disloyal. She might need to be overpowered, like Circe. She might seek to control and emasculated him, like Calypso. OR, she could be like Nausicaa and Arete- powerful, but kind, hospitable and dignified. (As she is like Athena- clever and skillful.)
And I just feel like leaving Nausicaa and Arete out of adaptions, we lose a lot of the cultural nuance surrounding women that the Odyssey can let us dig into.

i really thought the point of "being lgbt+ doesn't absolve you of racism as a white person" was that white people arent absolved of racism by being marginalized but it really seems like people think other marginalizations make it okay. no being disabled doesn't do it. no being poor doesnt do it. we need to fight against racism actively no matter what.
Happy 7th Anniversary Promare !!
I will always remember this movie as a fantastic love story between two FUCKING TERRORISTS
There’s a liquor store near my house that seems to be run exclusively by frat boys. They lovingly curate these bags, which I browsed today while “Oops I Did It Again” played through the store speakers. This is art to me, there is beauty everywhere for those with eyes to see it
The update everyone has been waiting for….
everytime i see this it makes me want to buy from them exclusively
whats a stereotype for your country that you absolutely do. mine is that i unironically go "eh" and apologize a lot and i often drink maple syrup straight

the dance dance rebellion has failed to become a dance dance revolution and the dance dance repressive regime has kidnapped your fellow dance dance radicals in the middle of the night and taken them to a dance dance re-education camp. they're gonna get dance dance relentlessly tortured
they're not super common but i really do appreciate characters who are introduced as one gender and later revealed to be closeted trans. i like that it challenges the audience to really think about how they perceive trans people because realistically not every trans person you meet is going to be out to you at first. yes we introduced this character as a man and now we're asking you to reframe her as a woman after you've already gotten to know her. can you be normal about that? can you be normal when it happens to people you know in real life? i hope you can.
idk who needs to hear this but ‘texting and driving’ actually is about driving & looking at ur phone for any reason including typing new directions into your damn maps app or choosing a song. stop swerving into my lane looking up a playlist to commit vehicular manslaughter to. ‘i wasn’t technically texting’ aint gonna hold up in court babes
