Intro post... After an eon....

HEYA!! You guys can call me either Brutus or Kaz :3

(... Though I suppose being called "Rat" isn't something I'd really mind either.)

I'm in a lot of fandoms, but I'll list a few here... Heh

I'm honestly kind of awkward online at times... Gulp, but I'll do my best to respond to things!! I also may occasionally post fics on here since the Ao3 curse has... Frightened me to say the least

Wesper? A hint of angst to feed the angst rat that occasionally crawls up from the depths under my bed and whispers in my ears about the secrets of the universe until I feed him sorrow, but it's mostly fluff so it makes me happy and keeps the angst rat away too! :)

Kanej? Slowest burn in the century. I have actually had to restrain myself from throwing my book at a wall because of them. I love it! Continue to make me pace around my room in sheer rage pretty please!!

Helnik... Oh my gods don't get me started on Helnik.

The chemistry? Off the charts, they have so much tension. Especially in those 3 weeks where they first met. I was absolutely in love with them. Matthias is such a yearner, he loves Nina so much he's willing to change the views that were groomed into him, the views Jarl Brum instilled into him so thoroughly it took an entire book + flash backs for him to overcome it.

Nina... Oh my goodness Nina, she's a goddess. She, a Grisha, convinced a Fjerdan man that she was the most human of all of them. Not to mention she's funny, waffle loving, sweet, and she's genuinely a weapon even without her powers. She's incredibly well-written just like the rest of the crows and I honestly love her so so so much. I love how she contrasts Matthias in so many ways and they simply make it work. DO YOU REALIZE HOW BEAUTIFUL THAT IS??

yeah cool my favorite color is sage green blah blah blah but HAVE you read at the center of everything we fade away? have you ever over analyzed the entirety of next to normal by song and through individual characters and perspectives? did you watch shadow and bone 3 times specifically for the crow scenes? if i said “no mourners” would you say “no funerals”????

Why does no one talk about this boy? The entirety of his first chapter in CK feels so overlooked. He's incredibly stressed over seeing his father, like he can't possibly come to terms with the fact that his father would be worried about him. He's shocked when he's greeted with relief instead of anger, and instantly starts wishing he could indulge in one of his addictions to help him get through this interaction.

At the end of the chapter as well, he mentions being confused on his new feelings of dread. Normally adrenaline makes him happier, he lives for that thrill, until someone he loves is put in the crossfire. He holds no regard for his own life, but he'd never forgive himself if the other Crows or his family were hurt.

It's an incredibly interesting dynamic for his character, and I feel like it ties into his own self esteem and just how he handles things in general.

I also think that his reaction may have been different due to Kaz recently losing trust in him. A part of me wonders if Jesper's self worth is tied to him being able to prove his loyalties here.

Anywayyy, I haven't finished CK and I don't often do character analysing, so lemme know if I COMPLETELY missed the mark :)

Here’s how I think the crows would be at babysitting

Kaz - Either absolutely horrible or incredible. He either traumatizes the kid or is actually exceptional at childcare. And this fully depends on his mood. Some kids absolutely adore him and ask him to babysit again (he wont) and some kids cry at the thought of him coming back.

Inej - She is incredible at babysitting. No one can change my mind on this. She’s very sweet to the kids and knows exactly how to handle a tantrum, deescalate, and discipline.

Jesper - You don’t want him babysitting your kids. He’s definitely fun and likes to play games with the kids, but he has no authority over them and struggles to filter himself. He’s good at keeping them entertained but will burn out after an hour and if a kid starts to cry he’ll start swearing under his breath.

Wylan - You’d think he’d be great but he gets too awkward. He doesn’t know how to talk to kids and engage with them. He lacks confidence when setting rules. He has the ability to babysit but kids won’t be necessarily asking for him. Mentally, he knows exactly what to do but when he has to execute it, it doesn’t go as planned. The only time he gets stern is if the kids start fighting.

Nina - She treats it like a hang out with friends. She talks to them as if they’re grown and it actually doesn’t go terribly. The only issue I see happening is her saying something not incredibly child friendly, but I think she’d be really good at it. Just not the same way as Inej would be.

Matthias - His appearance might intimidate the kids at first. The kids will be shy around him and wary when he tries to engage, but after the first hour or so the kids will end up liking him. He’s very gentle and caring with the kids. He doesn’t have to discipline much because when he sets a rule the kids will shyly agree (still intimidated).

okay but the other day i realised that the scene in soc during the ice court heist when matthias sees brum coming and intercepts and pretends to play nice with him and puts nina in the cell only to double cross brum bc he was protecting nina all along perfectly mirrors the beginning of helnik's story when nina put matthias in hellgate trying to protect him from the ravkan soldiers. my heart 😭
