Whether you suffer from chronic back pain at home or are on the way to the hospital for back surgery please do yourself a favor and invest i
Aaaa hahahaha! As a foodie, this mental image has totally changed how I view myself.
i have scoliosis, is popping your back a lot bad? /genq. it helps a ton with pain for me but i'd prefer to not be accidentally screwing up my spine even more
I am no expert, but I did learn that it’s like cracking your knuckles; sounds terrible but is not. Tennis balls are awesome for that. You lie flat on the floor and put the ball where it hurts on your back and roll around on it or up against a wall. You can also put 2 balls in a long sock and tie it. Then you can roll the balls on either side of your spine at the same time.
Im so sick of being called a gatekeeper with cripple punk. I’m so annoyed at people bitching pissing and moaning because they want so fucking badly in cripple punk spaces because “iM DIsAbLeD tOo” no one is saying you aren’t. But there’s a difference between being disabled and crippled.
Here, by the original creator of cripple punk, see this post.
Let’s look at this a little closer, what does that top line say?
Cripple punk is exclusively by the physically disabled, for the physically disabled.
Physically disabled people aren’t “gate keeping” anything. You can’t gate keep being fucking crippled. We’re telling you to not talk over cripple people because we’re not going to take it. Unless you’re crippled, you literally do not have a voice over us. It’s that simple.
And since I’m gatekeeping, you’re not in the club. Call me a purist, cry whatever. But you trying to force yourself into our spaces is ableist and proves you don’t give a Fuck about what we have to say.
Thanks for clearing that up. No ribbons, bracelets or 5k walk shirts here, just an attitude.
How to gym as a cripplepunk
I confess I still feel a bit uncomfortable referring to myself as a #cripplepunk because my disability is invisible. I literally walk in to a gym like anyone else. CAT scans, MRIs and all the metal detectors can see me, but the others have no clue. To make it even more baffling I can get away with not using a cane or walker if I time my day right by spending most of it supine or seated. Right now…

Another surgery looms
I had my first surgery as a teenager. Now I am going back under the knife for a whole mess of issues on my spine. One is the consequence of having titanium rods fused to my spine for so long that my remaining “good” portion took a beating and deteriorated. The other is spinal stenosis which my mother also had. The list of procedures include: sawing a few inches of my current rods, a laminectomy,…

You! You! I know you. You are the arcade game they had at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia for those of us living there. You were the sum total of my entertainment during my recovery from surgery. You were at the end of what felt like the longest hallway I have ever traversed. You were my reward for completing my physical therapy of “Walk down to the end of that hall and back”.…

folks with scoliosis: what does your pain feel like?
when I was 19 & my doctors were trying to diagnose my pelvic pain (which I'm 99.9% sure is endometriosis) they did an x-ray and it was revealed to me, via receiving my results online, that I have mild scoliosis. they never went into this and never even talked to me about it, it was just... put in my notes with an x-ray of my lower body.
due to a combination of being unable to see the forest for the trees and, let's be frank, medical misogyny, doctors have diagnosed my chronic pain as being fibromyalgia. I don't think my pain is just fibro, if it's fibro at all. I think it's because of my fucked up spine, injuries when I was younger that my parents did not let me get treatment for, and chronic fatigue because I know myself and treatments for fibro haven't helped me. if people with ~verified~ pain caused by scoliosis could give me an idea of what that feels like for them I could probably get a better idea of just how much my spine affects things.
When I was a kid experiencing excruciating, stabbing pain in my back, the doctors told my mom that although I had severe scoliosis, scoliosis did not cause pain. They told her I probably had a spinal tumor. That scared the crap out of my mom and obligated me to go through a battery of unnecessary labs and imaging. I eventually found an md who upon hearing this false narrative became enraged and explained in detail how OF COURSE scoliosis causes pain. Your spine is getting yanked. Yeah, that’s gotta hurt.
I recently learned that I am a #cripplepunk and have never felt cooler in my life. I like how the young ones are literally redefining themselves nowadays. I really can appreciate the effect it has on my psyche. Keep it up kiddos, I’m taking notes.
Spinal Fusion and Sport
If you’ve had a spinal fusion, reblog this with when your fusion was and what sport(s) you do
I competed in karate and kickboxing . My sidekick was lower than everyone else’s from the rods, but my posture was excellent for horse stance.
I am expert on myself, because I have had no choice. I searched it up andI still haven’t seen much that I can personally relate to. I had surgery. I will have more surgery. I am female (It ma…
I've had scoliosis forever; talk to me.
I am expert on myself, because I have had no choice. I searched it up andI still haven’t seen much that I can personally relate to. I had surgery. I will have more surgery. I am female (It makes a difference come pregnancy and child birth). Hmmm let’s see… I taught teenagers and raised a few. They seemed to like me so there is that. I am here if you need to just share, ask or vent.
