Side Story: Feuds
Cara stared up at the ceiling and listened to the clock in the corner of her room ticking. Tick, tock, tick, tock. It was 3 am. And she was still awake. All because of that bloody bird.
10 - 20 minutes earlier, a bird had flown into her window and woken her up. The poor bird died upon impact and had been dragged away by a cat into the darkness to be eaten. She'd spent at least 5 minutes watching the cat struggle to drag its new toy after it, before she shut the curtains and tried to go back to sleep. But here she was, unable to return to sleep. "It's going to be a long night." She grumbled to herself, sitting up and beginning to stare at the well

By the time it got to 8 am, Cara was still sat on her bed and staring at the wall. She'd simply stayed awake and stared at the wall and the ceiling at alternating intervals throughout the night, hoping that she would fall asleep eventually, but unfortunately, sleep never came. Cara could hear her mother's footsteps coming down the hall. She then knocked twice on the door and opened it. Her mother hadn't expected to see her daughter awake already, much less staring at the door. The surprise almost made her fall, but she quickly regained her calm. "Good morning, dear." She smiled, studying her daughter and trying to find out why she was awake already so early.
"Bad morning, Mum." She replied sarcastically, falling backwards onto her bed. "I'm not going to school today." Cara stated.
Her mother frowned lightly and walked over to her daughter's bed, sitting down and staring curiously at Cara. "Why not?" She asked.
"I've been awake all night. I woke up at 3 am because some bloody bird crashed into my window." She grumbled, sitting up once more. Cara often became gruff or sarcastic when she was tired. "Look at how bloodshot my eyes are, Mum." She held open her eyelids and sat closer to her mum.
"Yes, yes, alright, I believe you. No need to freak me out." She muttered, flapping her hands and standing up. "You can stay home. But just for today, Cara. But tonight, you're going to bed earlier." Her mother warned, walking out of the room and going to get ready for work.

She stayed in bed for the rest of the morning and the first half of the afternoon. It was only when the clock struck 3 pm that Cara decided to finally get out of bed and get something to eat. She walked into the kitchen and spun round, looking at all the food she had to choose from. There wasn't much. Eventually, she filled the kettle and simply made a cup of tea. How typically British of me.
After she'd made the cup of tea, Cara began to wander around the house, looking at it as though she was a stranger. The paint on the skirting boards was chipping off, and the wall paint didn't look as bright as it had when they'd moved in the house. It was funny. She could still remember it..
Cara sat down in the middle of her bedroom floor with her cup of tea, looking around and slowly sipping. As she shifted to place her tea down on her bedside table, she felt something shift underneath the rug she had on her floor. She frowned and slowly stood up, walking off the rug then kicking it away. The only thing underneath it was the the floor. She slowly sat down on the ground and tilted her head to the side after she realised that one of the floorboards was loose.
Cara frowned and slowly began to attempt to lift the floorboard. It took a lot of effort, but eventually she managed it. She clasped a hand to her mouth as memories of her youth came back. Some of her toys were down there. As well as.. a photo. A photo of her and Errica. She reached an arm down and pulled it up, blowing dust of it then staring at the photo. She and Errica hadn't had a decent conversation in a while. Cara turned over the photo and sighed as she read the messy writing on the back.
"Best friends forever" it read. That hadn't gone so well.
What was it they'd gotten into an argument about in the first place, after all? Cara couldn't quite remember. It had been two years since they'd argued, and the only conversation they'd had since then was bitter insults and sarcastic compliments. She sighed and let the photo drop back into its little time capsule, landing among the toys. She slowly placed the floorboard back over it and walked across the room to her rug, putting it back in its usual place, then walking over to her school bag to grab her phone. She switched it on and waited for it to load impatiently, quickly going into contacts and scrolling through until she came to the name she was looking for. "Errica the Bitch." She read aloud, groaning and quickly editing it. She couldn't even remember what the argument was about. Only that it had been the basis of her friendship with Emilia.
She then thought over something to say, before eventually simply writing "Hi", and sending it. And now, all she could do was wait.
