Terrible Lessons You Learned from Musical Theatre
Hamilton: Don't fuck up. Ever. You will die.
Waitress: You know what's great? Adultery.
Chicago: Easiest way to fame and fortune? Murder.
Wicked: Only pretty people can overthrow the government.
Rent: Don't ever compromise in the slightest, especially if you're poor and dying.
Hunchback of Notre Dame: Nothing good will ever happen to you if you're physically disabled. But you'll sound great.
Heathers: The popular kids were right, you really should avoid the weirdos in high school.
Aladdin: Lie your way to a good relationship. Especially if she's rich. She'll get over it.
Book of Mormon: Blasphemy and fan-fiction are great for stabilizing war-torn parts of Africa.
School of Rock: Lie your way to a great career. Especially if your boss is hot. She'll get over it.
Something Rotten: Originality is dead, but that's hilarious.
Phantom of the Opera: Love never dies, and neither will this show.
Lion King: Julie Taymor did something right.
TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: In 2005, Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone star in an unusual revival of Sweeney Todd. Under the direction of John Doyle the ten cast members also serve as the orchestra, doubling on musical instruments when they are not performing in a scene. LuPone delights audiences with her capable tuba playing.

me: time to get spooky tonight
me: *blasts the phantom of the opera overture*
honk your horns… she’s smiling… say hello!
getting to the end of hamilton like
“The reduction of the universe to a single being, the expansion of a single being even to God, that is love. Love is the salutation of the angels to the stars. How sad is the soul, when it is sad from love!”
But when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story?Â
Do I have to bring this back?
Beverage warning applies. Uploader will not be responsible if anyone’s keyboard has a sudden accident with liquid.
Friends, listen to this. It takes 10 seconds and will drastically improve the quality of your existence.
WHAT WHAT WAS THAT WHAT HAPPENED EVERYONE LISTEN TO THE THING AND PERHAPS TOGETHER WE CAN EXPLAIN WHY VALJEAN um exploded?!?
VALJEAN U OK?!
that sounded like some serious vocal chord damage right there
What in the diddly darn
“So what kind of music do you like?”
um.
this just in:
everything sounds better if it is sang by Jeremy Jordan
I’m a slut for Musical Theater™
I relate.
Good morning moana was better than frozen
Repeat after me: Professional recordings of musicals are the key to the revival of musical theatre within popular culture
Musical Asks, why not do them all m8???
This has taken me a very long time! I apologise profusely!
Best cast recording to listen to during a long car trip?
Sweeney Todd! I’m still buzzing after seeing it off-Broadway. I will listen to the entire soundtrack start to finish and I will play every role
Song you’d blast from the top of a skyscraper?
At the moment, it’s Me and the Sky from Come From Away. Jenn Colella gives a phenomenal performance for starters, the song is so empowering and uplifting but most importantly it’s the perfect song to listen to when high in the sky
Song that never fails to make you cry?
Alabanza!!!
Off-Broadway or Broadway production of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet?
I’m not very familiar with either, but I’m going to choose the Off-Broadway production for two reasons. Firstly Pippa Soo is my queen and her rendition of No One Else is absolutely beautiful. I also love really intimate and immersive theatre, so imagine the show works better in the smaller Off-Broadway venue
If you were to make a your own production of your favorite musical with complete creative rights, what would you change?
Honestly I’d just add more diversity (of race but also age, body type, sexuality etc because it is so important!) and I’d add more leading female roles
Best song to break something while listening to?
If someone handed me a plate when I’m singing Burn or See I’m Smiling I’d probably smash it! Any song with pent up sadness/anger/aggression
Hamilton or In the Heights?
Love them both dearly, but I'd have to be mainstream and say Hamilton. Cast me as Eliza Lin!
Top three Broadway actors or actresses?
The list is always changing because there are so many incredible and inspiring performers, but at the moment: Patti LuPone, Jeremy Jordan and Karen Olivo
Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, or James Corden as the host of the Tonys?
Not the biggest fan of Hugh Jackman’s hosting, and though I loved James Corden’s opening number NPH is the one and only Tony host for me!
Best musical theatre breakup song?
I love Serious from Legally Blonde for the way it subverts expectations and doesn’t deliver the usual broken-hearted ballad!
Stephen Sondheim or James Lapine?
S O N D H E I M
Favorite romantic or platonic duo on Broadway?
That is an impossible question oh gosh! At the moment is has to be Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett because the chemistry between Carolee and Hugh was insane
“Waving Through a Window” or “For Forever” from the cast album of Dear Evan Hansen?
I’m basic, so Waving Through a WindowÂ
If you were to write a musical, which composer/writer would you like to team up with?
Sondheim and Lin Manuel Miranda working together, with the odd song by Jason Robert Brown and Laurence O’Keefe
What would you say if you met your Broadway fave?
ASDFGDSJSEUSUGSGKUSGHSGHSGH (I wouldn’t be able to string a proper sentence together)
Best musical theatre location? Orlando, Santa Fe, Chicago, or the Emerald City?
I like Santa Fe because of what it represents for characters both in Rent and Newsies!
Sally Bowles or Roxie Heart?
Sally of course! Is it even a competition?
Role you could play at this very moment and absolutely nail?
Eliza Schuyler if only I could beatbox!
Movie stars on Broadway or Broadway stars in movies?
ALWAYS Broadway stars in movies! Keep non MT trained actors away from my precious musicals
What book, movie, or TV show do you think should be made into a musical?
Lots have potential, but honestly I want to see more original content!
Tap dance breaks or 10-second costume changes?
Both are incredible but I cannot resist a good tap dance break, its probably my favourite style of dance
Best Broadway Elder Price?
Not too familiar with anything other than the OBC, and Andrew is pretty perfect!
Top three women-driven musicals?
Legally Blonde, Heathers and Gypsy, but there need to be way more!
Are you more excited for Spongebob: The Musical or the Broadway adaption of Frozen?
Frozen, although I think Spongebob will probably be a better show, as I’ve never been a big Spongebob fan!
Best young love song?
16 going on 17 was the first song that got me really excited about musical theatre at the tender age of four
Matilda or Groundhog Day?
Matilda! Had the pleasure of seeing both on Broadway and though Groundhog Day was funny and endearing, the only thing that really blew me away was Andy Karl, whereas Matilda had an outstanding cast, score, set and choreography.
Historical event that should be made into a musical?
I love history and would be down to see anything, especially some Early Modern history! Give me some good witch trials/Wars of the Roses/Tudors and I’m there!
What non-Broadway singer/actor would you love to see in a Broadway show, and which role would you like them to play?
She may already count because she’s done musicals before, but I’d watch Imelda Staunton is absolutely any role!
If you read fanfic, what’s your favorite fanfic about characters from musical theatre?
I don’t I’m afraidÂ
Set design or lighting design?
Set! I respect both but lack the skills for either! Hopefully I’ll get more chance to explore them at uni.
Favorite empowerment-themed Broadway song?
I’ve always loved So Much Better, but Me and the Sky is a close favourite at the moment
Which Broadway star, from the past or present, would you love to have dinner with?
Patti LuPone, Lin Manuel Miranda or Sondheim so they can teach me everything
Favorite musical theatre trope?
I still love the classic I want song
