He was living on borrowed time.

He had felt this way as soon as Richie had woken from the deadlights. He had taken such a deep breath after Eddie had reached him, unshed tears glistening in his eyes. Richie eyes had widened as he gripped Eddie’s arms and rolled both of them away from where Richie had been laying. Eddie barely had time to notice as they narrowly avoided the giant claw striking down where they had just been.

Eddie remembers the feeling of shock, how scared he had felt in that moment. He could’ve died, but he hadn’t. Because of Richie.

He remembers trying to swallow down whatever unsureness he had felt in that moment.

He remembers looking over at Richie, only to find him staring right back. Eddie had tried to say something, anything. Perhaps thank Richie for saving his life.

He remembers leaning a little closer, trying to get the words out as he looked in Richie’s eyes. Then someone, probably Bill, had shouted for both of them to come help. Beverly’s screams echoed around them and the moment had been lost.

Eddie remembers.

For the first time in 27 years, he wishes he couldn’t.

Once they had finally gotten back to the Inn, he had left himself think. He belatedly wonders if he should call Myra.

Bill had mentioned needing to get back to work as soon as possible.

Richie had casually brought up tour dates he had coming up.

Stan was desperate to get back to Patty.

Ben and Beverly obviously were planning on getting the hell out of Derry again, but this time, together.

Mike was heading to Florida, maybe someplace further after that.

Eddie wasn’t quite sure where that left him. He had a job but he’d be surprised if they hadn’t already fired him considering the lack of notice he had gave before leaving. He had a wife but she was the last person he wanted to see right now.

He doesn’t know how to move on from this. He’s not sure what to do now that he Remembers. He doesn’t know how the rest of them can just go back to their lives.

Every time he closes his eyes, he sees himself dead, the way their battle with IT was supposed to end for him.

He’s not sure if any of them could even understand.

richie makes a group chat called RICHIE’S GALS with bev and patty. bev is like “i think this might be weird, richie,” and patty just sends a bunch of incomprehensible emojis followed by “ladies night!!!” richie tries to add audra and she immediately leaves and then blocks his number

bill group calls the rest of the losers to tell them mike is gonna come stay with him for a while and the losers, who are, every last one of them, paired off with each other (except for stan who is madly in love with patty “babylove” uris), say ……. oh? mike is… going to stay with you? and bill’s like yeah mikey is gonna come for a couple weeks it’s been hard since audra divorced me it’s going to be good to see him :D

bev starts a new group call as soon as bill hangs up and stan is already wheezing and in full-blown tears of laughter, richie is screaming, and ben and eddie are asking everyone else, like, did bill seem particularly…. bottom-esque to you just now? and after a while bev just goes, oh my god. we’re gonna be six for six

yeah no like definitely when richie and eddie were in like kindergarten eddie came over for a playdate slash sleepover because his parents were going out for date night on their anniversary, and they were all sitting around the dinner table, richie and eddie and richie’s mom and dad, and richie went “what’s an anniversary” and richie’s dad was like, “well when you get married you’ll go out on the same day every year to celebrate getting married” and richie nodded thoughtfully and chewed on a mouthful of mac and cheese and said, “me and eddie are gonna get married” and richie’s mom laughed, endeared but nervous, and said, “boys can’t marry boys, richie” and richie furrowed his teeny-tiny little brow and asked, “why not?” and richie’s dad said, “well, because boys have to marry girls, richie” and richie made a face and said, “that’s silly” and eddie said, “don’t worry richie i’ll marry you” and richie’s mom very quickly drums on the table and goes “guess whaaaaat i went to blockbuster and got you boys… the great mouse detective!!!” and richie and eddie cheer and the whole matter is briefly forgotten. but then the next morning before breakfast richie went out into the yard scrabbling for dandelions in the flowerbeds and put together a little bouquet for eddie and the two of them arranged all of richie’s stuffed animals and action figures in neat rows and stood before a teddy bear priest and married each other in a solemn ceremony capped off by magic marker wedding rings. then there was a reception of scrambled eggs and bacon and orange juice before eddie’s mom came to pick him up.

they never tell a soul (although richie refuses to wash his hands for the longest time to preserve his magic marker ring for as long as possible) but they also never quite forget and even years later when they’re twelve or thirteen and like richie’s being a total pain in the ass like refusing to share his extra chocolate pudding at lunch eddie will lean in and mutter, “that’s no way to treat your husband” and richie will just blush and place the extra pudding cup on eddie’s lunch tray and whisper “my apologies mr. tozier” and they’ll both crack up
