One of the reasons I really ship Jon with Sansa and see him as the best possible person for her, is just how much Jon cares for Sansa and his concern for her. Very rarely we see someone who takes Sansa’s feelings into consideration and treats her like a person with respect. Let’s look at some of my personal favorites.
In their very first scene together at Castle Black Jon sees Sansa and in a state of utter shock, walks up to Sansa and neither of them are moving, just staring at each other. Jon in this scene almost looks afraid to move. So he waits. Although they both go in for a hug at nearly the same time, Sansa is the first to rush in and Jon immediately rushes in as well. He actually waits for Sansa to make the first move. It’s small, but just the beginning.
Next we have the very heated tent scene. Jon is weighed down by the stress of this battle. They don’t have enough men to win, he’s still dealing with the aftermath of being resurrected, he’s doing everything he can to protect Sansa. But it’s not enough. He lets his frustrations get the better of him and even though they are both yelling at each other in this moment, Jon sees the shift in Sansa and he realizes it in a second. He leans back and lowers his voice. “Battles have been won against greater odds.” What I love is how even if Jon is stressed, tired, and frustrated, he is still able to take what Sansa is feeling in that moment into consideration.
In one of the more meaningful scenes, Jon is getting ready to meet Ramsay before the battle. And even when he is still dealing with a mountain of problems, the first thing we see in this scene is Jon thinking of Sansa. Sansa might not have disccused in detail what happened with Ramsay, but Jon is smart enough to put the pieces to know just how much of a monster Ramsay is. He tells Sansa she doesn’t have to be here if this is too much for her. Of course, she wants to stand her ground. But the point is that Jon above all else wanted to make sure Sansa felt she could handle the situation.
After the battle is all but won, and Jon has made his way into the courtyard of Winterfell, he stares at Ramsay after Ramsay just murdered Wun Wun. Just look at him, he’s absolutely terrifying in this moment. Shit, mud, blood, he’s covered from head to toe and this is man is ready to murder Ramsay.
The camera shows us a close up of Jon’s face to show us just how enraged Jon is. This man tortured Sansa, murdered Rickon in front of him, killed another of his friend. Jon is ready to beat Ramsay until there is nothing left with his bare fist. But then the camera pans up to Sansa looking down on this.
In all this rage, anger, pain, the pure hatred Jon has in this moment all stops the second he sees Sansa standing there. He literally stops mid punch. Although he wants to kill Ramsay himself right then and there, he knows Ramsay isn’t his to kill. It’s even stated in the script that Jon realizes it and he’s able to contain himself. Not for anyone else but Sansa.
After everything, Jon takes a minute alone up on the battlements. Sansa joins him and they start to have a conversation about the Lords chamber. Jon says Sansa should take it, Sansa says Jon should take it, and Jon leads with this line. To this day Jon is the only character who acknowledges Sansa’s hand in the battle. Even Sansa looks surprised he’s saying this because she is not used to people giving her the credit or acknowledgment in this way. Other characters in the story only saw Sansa as means to get the North. While others even question her as a Stark. But Jon, Jon knows she is the trueborn daughter of Ned Stark and the rightful Lady of Winterfell.
In the season 7 premier Jon announces his plans to sail to Dragonstone. He doesn’t want to, and understandably Sansa is upset by this news. And then Jon lays this on her. In a room full of people he turns to Sansa and tells her the North is hers until his return. Sansa is absolutely shocked in this moment and her stare shifts for a second to Littlefinger in the corner. Sansa knows Littlefinger will be planning something to gain power over the North and this is the best opportunity.
But Jon’s stare stays on Sansa the whole time because ultimately, he trusts her above everyone else. To him, she is capable, intelligent, and the home he loves and the country he loves and will never stop fighting for will rest in “Good Hands.” He gives her a simply nod and knows she can handle this.
From big to small, Jon is the only character in the series who’s ever treated Sansa with this much respect and love. He’s gentle, yet knows she’s strong. He’s never doubted her and gives her the validation she’s sorely lacked throughout her journey. Jon doesn’t just treat Sansa like an object he can use for his own benefit. And regardless if they ever become canon, Jon is still the best person for Sansa. Not just as anything romantic, but as the man who was the first to see her as something more than a political pawn. As a ruler, and most importantly as a person.
Why does this excellent post not have more reblogs? Because it sure as heck deserves them!

eye contact
when I drew the Hermione and Draco portraits, originally the plan was to do a short comic panel where they make eye contact across the Great Hall…but then I got carried away and the portraits came out a little too pretty so I posted them individually. The concept was still buzzing in my head though so I made this thing.
