The further away from the crowd they got, the better Zero felt. There was less emotions to deal with. Mainly just their own and the girl’s next to them. Hers were much softer, mixing and whirling around them strangely yet not unpleasantly. It was bearable after their near death experience.

Confusion bubbled to the front of zero’s mind and they couldn’t help but smile at the other girl. They knew they weren’t making much sense. It wasn’t as if they had been forthcoming with their own ability. But still it was very sweet of the girl. “It wouldn’t have hit me because I’m a bit intangible,” they smiled, reaching a hand out. “See?” They held their hand out to the girl, the same smile still on their lips.

“Well I’m glad you were able to,” they laughed, nudging the girl teasingly. “I’d have been flattened on the pavement if you hadn’t been able to. But still, it is very interesting and I am certain you’ll be able to improve. Practice does make perfect.”

Violet hadn’t known what to expect, but she was fascinated by the other’s ability. She had never seen anything like it but it really was incredible. She was honestly awed by the way that magic could influence things. Now that she was less and less afraid of what she herself might do, she wanted to get to know more of the magical side of Swynlake. 

After all, she had been avoiding this side for long enough. “That’s...that’s really incredible you know. Does it work all the time or are there ever moments where it might not function as well?” Violet asked, curious for the first time in years really. She wanted to understand more about this person. She wanted to know what they did about it.

“Even if it didn’t do much, I’m glad I ran to do it. It um...it honestly helps me understand what a good motivation is in wanting to improve.” The motivation couldn’t be something like wanting to hide her powers. That was hiding herself away. She understood that a bit better now. “Thank you. I do hope to do that. It might sound weird, but you’ve kind of opened my eyes to what they could do, as opposed to what I think they will do.”

Movie Night | Bamblet

The movie was over at this point, and Bambi had enjoyed it. He couldn’t really speak for Violet, but she had been smiling quite a bit. He felt like a schoolboy again. It felt strangely relaxing to go back in time like this. He hated high school, but nostalgia had glorified his previous romances.

And he liked kissing Violet. She was sweet and her lips were soft and so were his. His heart was beating faster and faster and yet he felt totally relaxed. He felt like everything was in slow motion as his lips pressed against hers, and they roamed around a bit to her cheek and down her jawbone.

Kissing Bambi made Violet feel special and wanted. But she always had this nagging feeling in the back of her mind that it might not last because she wasn’t quite herself by not sharing much about her magic. Was it being dishonest with him? it almost felt that way sometimes.

Still, she leaned into him, an arm wrapped around him, and her cheeks were flushed a slight red, taking a moment before she regretfully pulled away a little. “You’re so sweet...and I feel like I’m not entirely honest, with you?” She chewed at her bottom lip. “I’m sorry if I...that I’m ruining the moment, I just want to know how you um....how you feel about magic? I never really asked you before and it’s kind of...it’s important.”

Zero was still in their own world as the other spoke. Their attention was on the driver that was getting out of the truck and the people around them. Despite being in a magick driven town, there were still people that looked at Zero and the girl with the force field strangely. Zero could feel their apprehension and slight fear, though they couldn’t be truly sure if it was due to the fact there had almost been a near fatal accident right before their eyes. Either way, Zero wanted to get out of there. 

Carefully Zero grabbed hold of the other girl’s hand and pulled her away from the crowd that was gathering. “It wouldn’t have hit me. Not really. But I’m still really glad you helped me.” Their words were quiet as they made their way down the street, doing their best to ignore the stares the pair of them were receiving. Being the center of attention was not something they were too fond of, no matter how much they enjoyed showing off their powers for others.

“That force field was truly incredible you know. I’ve never met anyone who could do that,” they babbled almost nonsensically as they walked. It was another power that they wanted to learn more about. This town was full of them it would seem and it made Zero feel a bit better about being there despite the Adamson’s not knowing they were there. “Is that as far as you can project it? Can you make it larger?”

Violet startled at the touch, but she allowed herself to be tugged along, not wanting what she had just done to become too much of a spectacle anyway. She had acted on instinct, without even considering what anyone else might think if they saw her use her powers. A part of her was freaking out. After all, she had just used them in a very public space. But the other...the other felt like she had finally done something right with them.

She had finally protected someone and done something good with her own powers. Or. She had thought she had done that. Violet didn’t quite understand what the other was saying, but she figured she could try and find out. “Oh. Well I thought...and the truck, I didn’t want to risk anyone getting hurt.” She was uncomfortable with people pointing in her direction, but luckily the two of them were headed away from the crowds, so hopefully that would pass soon.

“Oh...I...thank you. I didn’t even really know for sure that I could project it that far until now.” She admitted, looking a little bit sheepish. “I don’t know yet...I’m trying to practice to be able to improve on that and see how far I can project it. If I could I would try to expand it enough that I could surround the town with it if necessary but...I think that would take so many years to do.”

Annoyances || Open

There were few things Adam hated more than his self imposed seclusion. One of those things included when the man that was paid handsomely to deliver his groceries neglected to actually show up. It meant that Adam would have to get them himself. 

It had been months since he’d been in town. Months since his delivery man had proved incapable of something so simple. Which meant it had been months since he’d been around someone who wasn’t Belle. 

Belle…

Fuck if that didn’t cause an entirely different set of emotions to flare up within him. Part of him hoped that he’d run into her on his but then there was another part of him that hoped she wouldn’t be around. He wasn’t ready for that conversation. Wasn’t ready to face her just yet. 

Coward. The beast whispered to him then, laughing at him in that too deep voice that often made his head throb. He hated it. Hated everything about it. All the trouble it had caused since it had invaded his mind and took possession of his body. If it wasn’t for that damned beast he’d still be back home with his parents, with Jennifer. Instead, he was here and alone because if he was alone then he couldn’t hurt anyone. There wouldn’t be any more blood on his hands.

His head shook as he pulled on a shirt and buttoned it, looking once in the mirror before making his way to the front entrance of the castle. The sooner he left, the sooner he’d be able to come back and get on with his daily routine. The walk to town was long and it allowed Adam a chance to ready himself for the vast influx of people he was about to deal with.

He’d barely realized he made it past the woods until he ran into someone, nearly toppling them over in the process. The beast growled in his mind and Adam did his best to keep his annoyance from showing itself. 

“If you could move… that would be fantastic.”

Ever since Violet had met with Fairy, she found herself wanting to spend more time practicing with her powers. Not to hide it, but to learn how to make the magic work better for her. She had taken to visiting the forest more, focusing on creating larger and larger force fields, on surrounding herself with it first, and then moving to expand it outward so she could protect more people with it.

Training consumed her now, she wanted to improve, she wanted to see it as an added bonus to how her powers worked and not feel negative about them. And so far this was a good and gradual start. The fact that she had actually been able to help someone with them made her confidence start to grow.

The girl had finally started making her way out of the forest when she turned, thinking she might have forgotten something where she had been practicing, and bumped right into someone, nearly falling over before she managed to regain her balance and her breath.

it took her a moment before she settled and then her eyes went wide at the other’s words. Really? At first Violet was somewhat startled, but then she considered how much room there was to walk, and found herself frowning a little. “I’m sorry...I’m not really taking up that much space....you could just go around me.” She pointed out softly as she checked to make sure she hadn’t dropped anything bumping into him.

Fairy was already well on her way to indignant about this whole situation. There was nothing that frustrated her more than people who tried to hide their powers or tried to make other people suppress theirs. Especially if they were Magicks themselves. Unfortunately, even within the magical community, there were those that were ostracized for naturally being too dangerous or too powerful. Were-creatures were one of the most prominent examples of this. It broke her heart, it really did.

Of course, there was also ones who really were too dangerous—such as sorcerers who had given into darkness. Or vampires. They hunted those weaker than them, though, really, they didn’t have control over it.

Anyway, the point was that Fairy did not agree with any argument that someone was dangerous with naturally gifted powers like Violet’s. All they needed was a little control. Fairy watched delightedly, though, when Violet showed off her powers. The indignation left as soon as the young girl blinked out of existence. 

What a wonderful gift! she thought, could feel her wings wanting to flutter delightedly behind her but she kept them tucked down.

“Wonderful!” Fairy exclaimed brightly, applauding a little at the girl’s show. “It looks like you have been practicing, can’t you see how well you’re controlling them already? They’re not dangerous at all. You know, I bet if you worked on stretching that force field out, you could do quite a bit of good. Something like that is a defensive power, nothing overly aggressive or harmful about it. Quite lovely really, quite.” She nodded encouragingly.

“I can understand about the boy,” Fairy said sympathetically, reaching her hand out and patting the girl’s arm. “But, you’ll never know if you don’t tell him. There is no sense worrying about it, if you aren’t going to do anything about it.” It may be a bit of tough love, but where boys were concerned, well, sometimes such a thing was needed.

Violet’s eyes went wide in surprise. Somehow she really hadn’t expected the enthusiasm that the woman gave. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and a shy smile spread across her face, almost as if it was the first time that anyone had said that. And she knew that wasn’t true. There had been a fairy boy who had been enthusiastic...but Violet hadn’t been at a point where she could handle that. Where she could really look at her powers in a good way.

“I...well I mean I have been practicing. But I...you really think I could do something like that?” Violet asked, for the first time wondering how far she could extend the force field, how many people she would be able to protect if she just managed to get it further, to get it to surround more. Violet had never thought of her powers in that way before, and it was...well it was almost exciting. It almost made her want to go test it out then and there, but that would have been rude.

Rude and she wouldn’t really know for sure what to do. She would have to look into that a little bit more. Books on force fields. There could be something out there maybe? She could hope at least. “Thank you. I...I really appreciate that. I’ve never really thought about the good that it could bring until now.” But now that she had, Violet wanted to do great. She really wanted to do something significant with the ability.

“I suppose you’re right. He’s...he seems like a really sweet guy. I know I’m not ready to find out yet...but I do hope that when I do...it’ll be okay.” But somehow talking to Fairy...well it allowed her to consider what more she could do. It made her think more about what she did, and she felt a warmth spread through her, and she almost felt that she’d be able to handle it even if Bambi didn’t really like what she could do.

Movie Night | Bamblet

She was warm, and he was comfortable. Everything felt really right, and it was a bizarre feeling for Bambi recently. Everything up till now had been going wrong. It’d been way to long since he’d talked to Faline, and he was pretty sure she secretly was still angry at him. He’d accidentally kissed a boy at a bonfire and almost ruined his relationship, not to mention the other relationship (which he knew nothing about but he wondered about them sometimes). Bambi was being stupid lately, and he never realized how stupid he was until it was to late. 

Now he just wanted to relax. He sat through the movie, laughing at the funny bits, trying not to squirm through the awkward parts, and occasionally rubbing little circles into her shoulder as she rested against him. Towards the  end of the movie, he placed a little kiss onto her forehead, so lightly she probably hardly even noticed.

Violet had become so comfortable that she had found herself almost drifting during the movie, which was amazing. She had never been able to relax so much with another person who wasn’t her family. And really, not even her family could be said to relax her like this as they often made her fear what the future might hold and if her powers would be discovered.

Bambi made her feel safe, and she sighed, whatever tenseness she might have had loosening even more with his touch. She hesitated for a moment and kissed his shoulder, wanting to express some of her appreciation, but feeling as if words might ruin the moment. A smile spread across her face. She was too aware of his presence, but in a way that let her enjoy every little thing that he did, that allowed her to be brave enough to lean in and kiss him.

Zero was still getting to know the town, still exploring in their own unique way. They’d already visited the more densely populated areas. Pixie, The Hunted Deer, even The Court of Miracles. They were nice and they enjoyed them quite a bit. There was a liveliness to them that Zero found they could revel in. No emotion was too strong, most just fleeting enough to get a small taste. Now it was time explore the other places, the quiet places that people snuck off to when others weren’t looking.

It had been a nice walk, clearing and centering. It reminded them almost of home, when they would walk just to get their bearings. Except now, they had their bearings. They simply walked to walk. Through the park, around the stables, past the forest. They didn’t know how long they walked for, only that by the time they had made it back near town their mind was clear and they almost felt as if they were floating.

They were so lost in the emptiness of their thoughts that Zero didn’t pay much attention to where exactly their feet were taking them. Only that the farther they moved from those quiet places, the more emotions flooded their system. It was almost a shock but one they were able to anticipate and adjust themselves to. 

And then a body was crashing into theirs and they couldn’t help but look up just a little startled. Wide eyes turned on the person before taking in just what had happened in such a short amount of time. They could see the faint outline of magic, a truck only a few feet away, and the truck’s driver stepping out of it. And then there were words directed at them. “What? Yeah. I’m fine. Thanks? I mean, no thank you. I guess I zoned out.”

It was such a relief to Violet to see that the other was okay. Thank god. Violet wouldn’t have forgiven herself if she hadn’t been able to get there in time and the person got hit by a car. In that moment she was so grateful that she had her powers. Her force field had been effective, and the car driver wasn’t hurt by it either. She made sure the force wouldn’t be so much that it would really damage the car in any way.

Her eyes focused on the person she had saved. She had saved someone! Violet, the girl who had long believed that her powers couldn’t do anything had helped someone. Her heart was pounding, and there was a dazed smile spreading across her face, probably the relief. Violet couldn’t believe this. 

“Oh. That...that happens. I understand...” Violet didn’t think she had ever zoned out enough to put herself in that kind of danger but then...her powers could help keep her safe. “I’m really glad you’re okay though. I was really....I thought the car would seriously hit you.” She blurted out, only finally lowering her hands and releasing the shield since the car was no longer moving.

Violet: But what you're saying implies my favorite movies aren't the best!

Violet: I mean if you say so.

Violet: I just don't get it.

Fairy felt Violet sway slightly towards her hand and in that moment, she could feel all the tension the girl had built up inside her. There was a tight air around her, like it was all compounding itself down—pressurized and ready to explode at any given moment. She wondered how much of that was the girl’s power and how much of it was her own struggle to keep them reined in. Fairy moved a step closer, their sides almost touching then, though she kept from reaching her arm around the girl. The side was there if she needed it.

The fairy godmother had a very nice shoulder to cry on. It had been done lots of times, was a veteran. Very experienced. She wouldn’t even mind if Violet’s mascara got on her pale blue blouse.

It was good she stepped closer, so that she could hear what the girl said—which truly shocked her. Her parents were the ones who thought she was dangerous? Now, that was just the most blasted logic the fairy might’ve ever heard. Magic wasn’t dangerous, unless used improperly! Unless ignored until it burst forth in its own anger, bent on revenge for being confined. How dare anyone tell their magical child to not use a part of themselves.

“Now,” she started, trying to rein in the anger in her voice, didn’t want to scare the girl away or make her think it was Violet she was angry at. “That’s just silly. Magic isn’t dangerous when used properly, it’s more dangerous to keep it all bottled up inside. The woods are very good for practicing, my dear, if you are afraid you may hurt someone, not many people in there to hurt. What is it you can do that is so “dangerous”?” Yes, she actually used air quotes, ladies, gents, fairies, and others.

“As for this boy, I’m sure if he likes you, if he really truly does and doesn’t have any qualms at all about you, then you having powers should not affect your relationship at all. Hey,” she said, bumping the girl’s shoulder lightly with her own, her voice taking on a more teasing tone. “Maybe you’ll even find an ally in all this, maybe he’ll want to help you.”

Violet looked at her, confused for a moment as she tried to think of how the other had gotten to that. She wasn’t sure she had explained herself well at all. Her shoulders slumped a little in shame as Violet realized what exactly she had implied about her parents. Which wasn’t really how she had meant it at all. She had never been very good about putting her thoughts to words when a situation was too much for her. She really needed to get better at that.

Especially if she wanted to make sure she didn’t give people the wrong idea as she had done now. Shame and guilt twisted themselves in her stomach, and she wanted to go home and just apologize to her parents now, even though they wouldn’t understand why she was doing it. But Violet really wasn’t doing them any credit like this. 

“That’s not...I didn’t mean....my parents thought it would be dangerous for me....if people....if others knew what I could do.” Violet explained, though she herself thought it was a little confusing. People had known what her parents had been capable of. But she supposed they had done the whole mask and costume thing so people didn’t know their secret identity. Superheroes. “But I have been practicing in the woods...I really have.” She added, before she chewed at her lip and made herself focus. “I can turn invisible, but I can also manipulate force fields.”

She had explained it, but she also felt showing it would be better, and ended up with her entire body invisible, her clothes being the only thing visible, and then projecting a purple force field around her body, re-materializing so the force field was the last thing visible before that too faded away. “I don’t really think I can harm anyone very easily like this, but I also don’t want to do that.”

Violet smiled slightly, somehow relaxing a little since she had shown the woman her abilities. “I don’t know. It would be nice if he would, if he would be okay with it and want to help and all that. But I just don’t know. Everything’s been so busy lately anyway...it might not even be much of a thing between us.” She shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t want to get my hopes up.”

Zero: It's only the best movie, show, and thing to ever exist.

Zero: Seriously, it can't be explained. You just have to watch it.

Zero: And after you watch it you have to dress up and see a live performance because that is the literal best.

Violet: I mean if you say so. I disagree.

Violet: I have to dress up after? That's kind of weird.

Violet: Why not just watch the movie?

Violet wasn’t really sure what led her to taking that path instead of the one down mainstreet, but she found herself thinking over what she and Fairy had been discussing. That her powers couldn’t be all bad like she liked to believe. Maybe they could do some good. But fear was still a powerful thing holding her back.

It was taking time, but she was relaxing a little bit. She didn’t let herself dwell over her powers as long as she usually did. She read books that were completely unrelated, completely unrealistic, and it was the first time Violet had ever felt so good. It was truly incredible what it could be like to really relax.

As she was walking, she started having a slight spring in her step, a smile slowly spreading across her face until she caught sight of someone spacing and in the middle of the street, and a car was coming, and before she really knew it she was jumping out in the middle of the street and throwing up a force field to protect herself and this person. 

Her breathing was ridiculously quick, but she had managed to knock the car back a little rather than have it slam into the person. Her hands were still up to maintain the force field, but she glanced over to check on them. “Are you alright? You’re not hurt right?”

Fairy was old, not that she would ever, ever admit that to anyone. Not terribly old, mind you, only 38 but that was a lot closer to forty than it was to thirty! That being said, she had a lot of life experience. Had gone through the ringer, so to say. But sometimes, because it was all those years ago, she forgot what it was like to be an insecure teenage girl.

Her first reaction was to be impatient as the girl worked through what she wanted to say. Fairy was a fixer. Wanted to just–fix it! Whatever it was. It was up to her to cheer people up. It was her job to make sure people left feeling happier and more confident than when she arrived. 

The girl’s words did cause all that to dampen, though. They were heavy–made her sound much older than she was. Fairy felt indignation rise up in her. It always made her so sad when she remembered the prejudice surrounding magic. She’d lived in Swynlake her whole life, had very rarely encountered it. It was still there too, even with some of her coworkers, hiding just under the surface.

Fairy moved a little closer, smiling gently at the girl–with soft, understanding eyes. “Oh, sweetie.” Her arm itched to go around her shoulders, but she simply brushed her hand against Violet’s arm. “Firstly, there will always be people who will judge you. But you know that it’s nothing you can help, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of–just look at your parents! And all the good they did for this world. Yes, yes, I know you parents.” She waved a hand at the girl’s expression when she mentioned them.

“Doesn’t matter. What matters is how you want to handle your powers. Embracing them is accepting all parts of yourself. You can’t control them until you embrace them. They’re part of you, trying to push them away just makes them unpredictable.” She sighed a little and then looked Violet directly in the eyes. “And about this boy, well, if he doesn’t accept you for your powers, who needs him? You’re beautiful and smart and powerful. He should be so lucky as to have you.”

Violet sighed, almost leaning into the contact before she remembered herself and that that was probably not the goal here. This lady was obligated to help her with her powers somehow, and wasn’t that pretty shitty? Violet didn’t want to add to her problems by being weird and wanting to be held or something. She was stronger than that.

But all of this was so exhausting. Fighting her powers was exhausting, the effort to keep them from being spotted was draining, it was truly weighing heavily on her soul. Maybe Violet really did need to take heed of what Fairy was telling her. But it was difficult. She had lived so much of her life thinking it had to be kept secret, it couldn’t be a good thing if it was secret.

“But my parents are the ones who wanted me to keep them secret in the first place. They feel that it’s dangerous.” Violet muttered softly. “I know that they’re amazing, they’ve done truly incredible things, but I also know that they want me to keep my powers hidden. And it feels like that makes it something shameful, even if they don’t mean it to be that way.”

Violet sighed, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear and watching Fairy carefully. “I just....it’s really hard for me to do that. I’ve never seen them as a good thing. They’re just....frustratingly there.” She added, though she couldn’t help but feel that there was some truth to Fairy’s argument about boys. Maybe it would be ridiculous to be with someone who couldn’t accept everything that made her who she was. “I...I guess you have a point. But...but I really like him. I don’t know what...I don’t know what to do if he really hates them.”
