You catch more mermaids with honey than vinegar 🍯🐝🧜‍♀️ I played with the @urbandecaycosmetics Naked Honey pallet this morning while filming a project for @starstuffboutique 🌟 This shoot brought out some old wardrobe favorites such as my @sirenallure starfish top, golden "Guinevere" wig from @wigisfashion and OG @starstuffboutique orange crystal crown 💛 The makeup wasn't my best but who knew gold eyebrows were so hard 🤦‍♀️ By the way did you know that you can use your tail drying floor fan for a super model hair blower? Whats keeping me safe during quarantine? Team videos and mermaid books 🙏📖 🧜‍♀️ It was such a joy to see the majority of the @finfolkproductions ambassadors come together and create a fun pass the brush video (I'm not an ambassador but I am a staff member). This was @mermanchristian and @mermaidjessicapearl first pass the brush video and they absolutely killed it. For this one, I chose to pose with the Penguin Book of Mermaids from @penguinclassics that they sent me to review last fall. When it's rainy and depressing outside what do you do? Explode digital fairy dust all over your mermaid photos 🧚‍♀️🧚‍♀️ Thank you all SO much for the insane amount of good love on my last post with Mr. Luna moth. 🥰 I feel like Ive gotten into a weird place where I feeling every post has to be a super high quality photo and I realize if you scroll way far back on my Instagram there's all sort of cell phone shots, work in progress craft projects, etc. and I didn't care if they were professionally shot, I just shared what I was excited about, and that was my motivation for my luna moth shoot. 💚 I feel like during this time we're all doing our best to create content, do photoshoots, etc. And make ourselves happy in an environment that is restrictive in some ways. Is it time to come out of hiding yet?? 🙈🙈🙈 I knew when I came back from New Zealand, Los Angeles and Arizonathat I would have a lot of content following the magnitude of shoots and meetups to get me though the slower weeks ahead after going back to work but little did I know what that would really mean...have I worked up the motivation to do an at home shoot? Nope. Am I a little jealous of people who have. For sure! I do feel like I have more free time to work on personal projects, edit photos from my New Zealand trip, etc. But you know what? I'm still working on that quarantine goal list I made myself 3 weeks ago and that's ok. 😴🤷‍♀️ So today just remember that If you see pretty photos on instagram and are feeling discouraged, chances are that the photo is older or the person finally had a chance to edit them with the break in normal work life that they're getting due to quarantine. Things arent always what they seem online, we're all in the same boat together 😊 Confess something you wanted to do during quarantine but havent! 💬💬 I'll go first: I wanted to continue the more active lifestyle I adopted in New Zealand by doing daily walks or light home workouts but guess what....I've gone on a hike twice in the 3 weeks that I've been home and have done zero home workouts. KELP IS SO COOL YALL! Guess the type of Kelp in the comments below🌿 This trip to the coast of New Zealand was the first time I've seen Kelp 👏 in. my. entire. life. 👏 and I was freaking mesmerized by it. 🤩 Kelp forest scenes in ocean documentaries are my absolute favorite thing to watch (check out the kelp forest scene in the Netflix show "moving art" or the @montereybayaquarium Live Kelp Forest cam for some seriously soothing kelp forest action🎥 Most of the kelp was way of reach and would have been dangerous to try and take photos with..... being smashed and swirled around by the big ole breakers off shore like a rocky washing machine 🙅‍♀️ but when we made it to nugget point, there were clumps of it floating in a few inches of water out of reach of the main waves. 👍 @willieswings was having a heart attack during these shots (sharp rocks, tangled up in kelp, incoming swells...you get it) but the kelp was so fun to shoot in! Orange and blue are complementary colors which means they are directly opposite from each other on the color wheel. Put blue and orange next to each other and they come alive 😍 🎨 I cant help but think of @mermaidhyli @lexiemermaid @the.mindful.mermaid and more recently @hfxmermaid when I see myself with ginger hair and a blue tail! 🎵I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves. And though I'm empty, I still warn the sailors on their way 🎵 Nugget Point lighthouse was constructed in 1870 and oil powered by a lighthouse keeper until 1949 and is now a fully automated LED lighthouse. 💡It sits on the edge of a very tall cliff overlooking the towering "nuggets" that trail out into the Pacific Ocean. 🌊 Now this lighthouse is a VERY popular photography destination, especially at sunrise (think of that lighthouse sunrise desktop screen saver you know and love) 🌅 and there were very clear signs of erosion due to human activity along the sides of the cliff above the pathway to the lighthouse with TONS of signs begging photographers and visitors to not climb around off the path for the sake of a nice photo. 😡 We wanted to take sunrise photos ON THE PATH but that morning was rainy and foggy and by the time it cleared there were a ton of tourists at the lighthouse itself so we decided to visit the beach next to the lighthouse for a more dynamic and private shoot which was probably for the best. (You can still see the lighthouse in the distance!) If you visit a photo location, please respect the environment and signage ✌🧜‍♀️🌈🌤🌊 On a real note, editing all these photos are making me miss New Zealand, the outdoors, travel, road trips, public places....all the things that I took for granted and was just part of normal life. Willie and I are doing our best to fill our isolation time back in NC with projects, crafts, etc. But all these wonderful photos and memories seems like a world away and by sharing details and photos it helps me remember that they were real. 🎵Gonna put the world away for a minute Pretend I don't live in it Sunshine gonna wash my blues away🎵 🏖🌤🌈🧜‍♀️ I told you guys I wasn't finished with New Zealand photos so if you're bored at home during quarantine, I'll be going into some fun behind the photo explanations😜 This last mermaid shoot is from our coastal trip and more specifically from a beach called nugget point and is famous for the Nugget Point lighthouse (you'll see....youll see). This shoot was supposed to take place at sunrise again but that morning was foggy and rainy and we didnt dare leave the comfort of our van 🛌. By high noon it had cleared up but we had to get back on the road home to queenstown so we did what any seasoned mermaid would do.....we took photos at high noon 😎 (that's a little joke, you never want to take photos at high noon due to the harsh lighting and shadows the sun creates). I did my hair and makeup in the car again and used my reddish liquid lipstick to make my eyebrows match my wig a little more (makeup hack 💄) and went to work! This beach had really stunning tide pools, rocks, and other nice photo features that crested some really unique photo composure. The sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful, and so are you ☀️🌈🧜‍♀️🌊 Today I swim to Phoenix to join my @wwmermaids at Sea Life, AZ and I'm just so floored by my time in Los Angeles. 🤩What started out as a disaster (missing luggage is the worst) 🧳turned into the ultimate display of the goodness that this mermaid community has to offer. She lay lazily along the rocks with her seaweed hair fanned out in emerald waves as the bright beams of golden sunrise warmed her scales and energized her for the coming day 🌅☀️💚🌈 I'm not usually a morning person (my normal wakeup is sometime between 9 and 10) but sunrise photoshoots make me energized for the coming day like no other.
