ilya domming & breeding kink version under the cut
there's angst in it, too, but i'm laughing about the idea of ilya going through with his plan at the hospital to say they should breaking things off
but not realizing that shane is too far in the stratosphere to fully grasp what he's saying
OR REMEMBER THE DETAILS OF THE CONVERSATION LATER
so ilya is trying to do this gently because he doesn't want to hurt him, but unfortunately this means being SO gentle that what high!shane gets is "i can't come see you more before i leave because it would be too hard" and shane is "okay :( i understand :(" because yeah, their team prob leaves soon and it was already nice that he made it here once, so that's okay :)
but then shane gets out of the hospital AND DOESN'T RECALL THAT HE WAS BROKEN UP WITH, so he keeps texting ilya, and ilya thinks it's just him trying to hold on, so ilya just doesn't respond because he wants this to be as easy as possible and if he just doesn't respond-
and then there's a knock at the door.
and in a reversal of the tuna meltdown, he is now facing a shane hollander who WON'T leave his house without talking because shane thought it was still grief about his dad or something and got worried and came to see him. and look. ilya is only human. shane is in front of him and beautiful and worried and so of COURSE they fall into bed together again, and this time shane falls asleep there and stays all night and like. okay. if hollander is this determined to make this work, maybe ilya just has to get a little braver, too.
and all goes well until the day ilya SO affectionately goes
"i'm glad you didn't listen to me"
"what? when did i not listen to you? 🤨"
*still SO soft and affectionate and sweet because shane pushed back and it's thanks to that they got here <3* "when i said we should break up and stop seeing each-"
*shane, sitting up so fast he almost pulls something* "when you WHAT?!"
STICKHANDLING (rated e)
Women flock to Rozanov; he’s the gravitational centre in every room. Shane gets it. He’s felt it, the shark pull of his orbit. He’s been swallowed up into the belly of desire. What he doesn’t get is how easy it is for Rozanov. Even with Shane’s teammates pooled around him on the dance floor his hands get clammy when a girl in a sequined skirt makes a move on him. Shane used to think maybe he was just awkward; maybe he needed a couple of beers in him to loosen up, but he couldn’t do that during the season.
Then Ilya Rozanov kissed him and the craving was so clear in Shane’s mind he was able to visualise every sharp edge of it, and he knew he wanted to be on his knees.
2013. It’s been two years since he and Rozanov hooked up in Nashville and exchanged phone numbers. It’s a month till Boston comes to Montreal and Rozanov’s promise of ‘next time’ could go into fulfilment. Shane Hollander wants to play hockey. He wants to play it well. The other thing is a thing he cannot allow himself to want.
writing is so funny because i could write nonstop for 9hrs and then hit a block where im like "how do i transition between this moment and the next?" and then i just dont touch it for 6 months
Serious advice tho if this happens, it's likely because you already wrote past the end of the scene and wandered too far from the more logical transition point, and you should go back to the last time the writing felt "unforced" and cut everything after.
You can also just skip the transition. Really good writing can span years in a single sentence, like you can just authoritatively state fact and your reader will go with it.
This is GOLD! You just saved me like thousands of therapy costs lmao
When I was writing my fic last few months the strategy I used was "just skip all the scenes I don't want to write" and it worked great in my opinion
Reverse ficbunny I can't get out of my head:
'Ilya gets added to the WAG groupchat as Lily' fic
BUT...
At first it reads like just another fluffy 'all the WAGs are lovely future-allies who adore, respect and ogle Shane (as Ilya expects)' fic.
But gradually Ilya realises they're all micro-aggressively racist and ableist about Shane behind his back, deeply resent his position, talent, and fame and lack of interest in them, and clearly don't think of themselves as racist at all, etc. Extra casual homophobia in there too (not targeted at Shane but literally only because they don't know). And from context he can tell their bfs/husbands on the team are saying worse (except Jackie/Hayden, who aren't included).
And just. Slowburn of Ilya gaining insight into Shane's experience of daily racism and other things they've never talked about, what he's like around straight people, realising that team really doesn't deserve him, etc etc. Feeling anguish and rage over the horrible-person-POV of interactions with Shane where Shane was clearly really nice and had no idea what they were thinking.
(And maybe simultaneous 'Shane added to the WAG chat as Jane' and spending all his time 'he would not fucking say that'-ing women who mischaracterise Ilya as a fun dumb lazy borderline-alcoholic fuckboy.)
@hr-rep love your tags buuuuuut
I'm a sucker for healing and happy endings so I raise you...
They add each other to the WAG chats at the cottage. So "Jane" is getting that experience of people talking casual shit about his boyfriend, but not a team that just met him and doesn't know him, the team that drafted him. The team that had him for 7 years. The one he captains. Boston.
And yes Shane doesn't have the most close relationship with his team and they say some insensitive and stupid shit but it's fine. It's generally rude and considerate, but not really targeted to him, they don't pay him that much attention.
The dismissiveness that Ilya goes through about anything non-hockey related feels different. They don't seem to respect him or like him personally, but as a character. A funny character that sure, he plays from time to time, but it's nor really him.
Jane is defending that man by sharing anecdotes of his sweet and loving side. And the girls believe him but also it backfires a little because now some of the guys tease him about it, and it's obvious they think less of him for it. Just all around toxic environment.
So when Ilya goes to Ottawa, and Jane goes to that WAG chat... Well, it's definetly nor perfect, but it is better. They don't like him but they don't know him, and they are just informed by his reputation. Jane talks about him and the opinion of him is much more different there, so is the Centaurs themselves opinion of Ilya, they were wary but he's actually not unpleasant at all, and he's very smart.
Shane is glad this team is better for Ilya and feels much less guilty about the "signing with the worst team" thing. He can see that Ilya is frustrated about hockey but much more relaxed with the organization of the Centaurs in the first place.
Jane gets to know these women better and again, they're nor perfect, but they at least seem to have their hearts in the right place. Some of the girlfriends are a bit shady, but most of the wives are actually cool. Wyatt Hayes gets transfered to the team and Lisa is definitely cool. Jane learns to care about them.
Meanwhile Lily is on the Montreal WAG chat losing her shit. They are so casually terrible, and their friendship seems real if not uniformly close, they do seem to care about their husbands and when a serious topic comes up they're nice, but god. When they're relaxed? And joking around? The shit they say. About Shane and everyone else too. Jackie is alright, and Lily's dms with her are full of bitchy commentary, but the only thing she does is change the subject and try ro corral them away from dubious shit. Lily is reading everything and talking sometimes but mostly, mostly he lurks and gives opinions when prompted and when they say some heinous stuff he calls them out on it. Lily is not very well liked, and these girls think "who does she think she is? She's the girlfriend of the captain but she doesn't even come to any hangouts. We should have gotten Rose Landry, she would be cool", but there's a very strict hierarchy at these things right? And Lily is top dog. Lily has the ear of the Captain. Jackie is still the head WAG in practice, because she does the organizing stuff, but it's obvious she and Lily talk a lot. Lily is there to stay.
Then Shane comes out to the team and well, Lily says he's a man, has been the whole time, but still won't meet them yet.
Things get icier but also not. Some of these women are actually supportive, some just don't bring it up. The firsts, well, they get a little better, know to speak up in the chat more when something hurtful is said. It was no problem to joke around before, because they weren't hurting actual people who could be hurt, but maybe they need ro rethink some things. But well, the rest, the majority, they just won't really think about it. They don't speak directly to Lily anymore.
And so some years go by and by the time we're at The Long Game, both Shane and Ilya have very different perceptions of each other's lives from canon.
Ilya understands Shane fear much more. He already understood it as the same fear and trepidation Ilya himself feels, but this is different. His direct environment is very hostile, even while out to them. What they're doing is not support, it barely scrapes tolerance. Ilya truly worries about Shane there, but some of his friends are actually good, and Shane wants to retire there, so yeah, that's that, he can only provide him with support and encouragement at home. He still doesn't bring up how trapped he feels, how much he wants to tell people. He also doesn't really talk about the WAGs much, it would just add pressure on Shane, he tells him the positive stuff.
And Shane, well, he sees Ilya in this team that keeps on losing, and a part of him feels a bit disgusted by it, the conformity they have. But another part of him knows how Boston was, even while winning, and cannot regret pitching Ottawa. Not when nowadays the WAGs chat shows him they like Ilya, both them and their husbands. They respect him and like him for him, even if they don't understand much of what he has going on. Shane starts to like these women a lot and now by proxy even their husbands. Sure, they are a closed off group, a very exclusive club that's a bit judgy of anyone new, but they do really care. Shane feels comfortable with them, supported, to a point, and he feels so glad Ilya has this team.
And Shane sees Ilya more and more depressed and he knows it's not the team, he doesn't think it's even the losses. Something is wrong and Shane doesn't know what it is but it keeps creeping in.
The Christmas fight goes completely different. Ilya still blurts out his invite to Bood, and while Shane still outright rejects it, and they start to fight a bit, both of them understand the other's place much more, and they wind down and have a conversation.
Ilya tells Shane about how he's been feeling, and going to therapy.
Shane tells Ilya about how he doesn't want him to lose his authority in the locker room the way he's going through if he comes out, even alone.
They don't reach any conclusion that night, but they agree to think about it, see what they would be comfortable doing. They spend the rest of the Christmas break in each other arms.
Then the flight to Tampa happens and Shane still proposes, but instead of just "Let's marry and come out in the summer", there's also, "Let's tell some people in your team". They talk about who to tell first and how. Shane wants to tell Lisa and Wyatt, Ilya wants to tell Troy, both of them also agree Bood would be good.
And well, when they're out, JJ knows much more about "Lily" and has already put it together, he's mad Shane didn't tell him, but there's no surprise to him, just a bit of hurt. The rest of the team... Well, they feel like they've been very toleratant already, but this is too much. Shane sees their vitriol, and thinks of his upcoming free agency, and doesn't really care about them. He will miss being the Voyageurs Captain, but not the team he captained. Hayden and JJ will stay his friends anyways.
The Centaurs who didn't know are baffled, but while a bit stilted with it, overall they're mostly supportive. The Centaurs WAG chat is on fire with some rude and invasive questions, but it's in good humour, and while baffled too, they're glad they get to properly meet Jane.
They move in together full time and Ilya notices that Anya acts differently with Shane than she does with him, more quiet and less playful, and he worries that means she doesn’t like Shane or is jealous, so he hires a dog trainer to come over and see if there’s anything they need to do to help
After a while of talking about how Anya acts the trainer says there’s nothing to worry about, Anya likes Shane just fine, it’s just that she sees him as the boss and is acting accordingly
And Ilya is like. But. I’m the one who adopted her? And raised her before Shane got here?? And the trainer is just like yeah well she sees you more like an equal. And Ilya is like WAIT she thinks Shane is in charge of both of us?? And the trainer is just like well do you interact in a way that would make her think that?
Ilya’s life flashes before his eyes as he thinks of all the times Shane has come over with a snack for Ilya and a treat for Anya, or all the times Shane has announced they’re all going for an after dinner walk, or pets Ilya’s hair and tells him he did a good job at practice, or the fact that he uses the same warning tone with Anya when she misbehaves as he does with Ilya when he’s causing problems on purpose
Shane comes home to Ilya with his face in his hands going oh god I’m not Anya’s dad I’m her brother and she thinks we’re both your pets. And Shane just goes. What.
when ilya and yuna are having their twice-a-decade crash out fight about what's Best For Shane, i think shane just twirls his hair and goes into the other room like well 🙂 this seems like it's between you guys 🙂
which increases the tension obviously because both yuna and ilya are shocked and horrified that shane isn't automatically and instinctually on their side
Taylor Tomlinson: Prodigal Daughter (2026)
the idea that hollander "tamed" rozanov is really funny to shane because like. ilya finds it hot and is always going along with it, yes of course my husband is so sexy why do you think i moved to this boring fucking city. for dick. meanwhile shane knows the truth which is that ilya tamed himself. he herded shane like a sheepdog until he was exactly in the right position for ilya to flop down at his feet and say i love you, i am a one man guy, sleep with other people if you want but you are it for me, so shane is always there like ??? ilya. what are you talking about. i was literally prepared to be a secret slot on your roster for the rest of time without even admitting that i was gay until you decided to have me over make me lunch and say my name while you come like a love confession and ilya goes lyubmiyy. shut up. i was untamable you tamed the untamable and so shane has to be like yes, baby, i worked so hard, i used all my tricks but he's rolling his eyes because ilya wants to be a wolf shane coaxed inside to sleep on the hearth but instead he's a cat who snuck through the window and fell in love with his prey. self domesticated. and this is just one of the many perfect games they play
toddler shane refusing to talk after his hockey team lose a game. yuna & david are trying to be encouraging like “bud!! you played so good!!” and shane is ignoring them while climbing into his car seat where he’s going to angrily drink his juice box and then chew on the straw.
He’s had a rough day…

The Centaurs are asked to do one of those sexy pin-up charity calendars and a photographer gets brought in to take the pictures.
The guys are goofing around, sitting in on each other's sessions and making jokes, and generally being a pain in the ass. The photographer has just about run out of patience when finally it's Shane's turn.
Shane, consummate professional that he is, locks in. It's a little bit embarrassing to be doing this in front of the guys, sure, but he's got a decade's experience here. He can easily compartmentalize.
The photographer is ecstatic that someone is finally taking this seriously! It doesn't even matter that the room his filled with hockey players wolf whistling and shouting "Looking good, Hollzy!" because Shane hits every pose and makes every adjustment and is generally just a dream to work with. (It also doesn't hurt that he's so easy on the eyes.)
Ilya finds the whole thing fun at first but his expression is stormy by the end and when Shane finally gets cleared to leave the set, he's positively pouting.
"What's the matter?" Shane asks quietly as soon as they're in the hallway.
"You liked that?" Ilya asks. "Taking his directions?"
Shane rolls his eyes. He can't believe he thought something was seriously wrong. "Oh my god, you're ridiculous."
"Is a simple question!"
"I was just doing my job. It's not like I was having fun."
"Could have fooled me," Ilya mutters bitterly. "You were being very good for him, doing whatever he told you."
Shane's cheeks go hot, a Pavlovian reaction to Ilya telling him he's good even though it's wrapped up in the pettiest, most stupid accusation.
"You know I've done this like a hundred times, right? There is nothing special about this specific photographer."
Ilya's eyebrows rise. "You would go to your knees for any man who asked you, as long as he's holding a camera?"
Maybe there had been a pose or two involving Shane on his knees. That doesn't make this tantrum of Ilya's any less stupid- although looking at him now, Shane's not sure if he's still just pissed or if he's talked himself around into being horny about it, too. Ilya does have a tendency to do that.
Shane really shouldn't be encouraging this. But then again, "Why don't you take me home and try it?"
Ilya curses under his breath, then grabs Shane's hand and practically drags him out to the car.
I love the everyone wants to fuck Shane Hollander agenda so picture like, Ilya at a team member's bachelor party and the whole Raiders team is there and everyone is drunk and they're playing games and just yelling out answers at the same time to questions like what's your favourite position and age you lost your virginity and giving each other shit for the answers but then there's what player you would go gay for and suddenly the whole team yells Shane Hollander at once to stunned silence afterwards and Ilya has the worst fucking night of his life
In my mind Ilya has to hide his insanity by turning on the whole team and demanding why they didn't say his name and they're all a bunch of fucking traitors with no ambition wanting to fuck the second best hockey player but the raiders are like yeah cap we know you hate the guy but you gotta admit he's good looking and those hands man! even Cosmopolitan agrees! and Ilya is one tequila shot away from commiting mass murder
It actually pisses me off when there's like these artists who have a realistic or semi realism style (such as myself) & they draw a lot of anime or otherwise Asian media, & they draw those more cartoony characters in the realism style, but they just make everyone look White
