I’m a 37 year old goblin mother of three goofy goblins, one of which has an extra chromosome. I felt I needed a place I could air out my grievances or share my silly goblin collections.

I work at a vet. I do have a fairly popular vet tech blog. I’ve been a tech since 2003. Technically since I was a teenager. I love my job. Sometimes don’t like things about it. But I am aware of being the best in my clinic at certain things. Proud of my accomplishments.

I am divorced, but I married my best friend not long after that. He’s the Gomez to my Morticia. Like seriously, do not ever settle, don’t allow yourself to be treated less than you deserve just because you don’t think you can do better. Oh and sometimes the one you like also likes you. Just say something. Worse they can do is say no.

Please don't say the word goblin or other creatures that are obsessed with money, they're antisemitic (i know u didn't know don't worry)

I’m not an expert on folklore or Judaica, but I am a Jew who has taken some classes in European folklore, so I have a couple thoughts on this. “Goblin” is a generic term to refer to a lot of different mythical creatures, some of them mischievous, some of them friendly, some of them evil. Some goblins do share traits with antisemitic stereotypes (lookin’ at you, JKR … and also a lot of modern RPGs), and sometimes that is intentional antisemitism on the part of the people telling the stories.

But the term is still very, very broad, and there are so many different types of creatures that are called “goblins” that they can’t all be said to represent an antisemitic stereotype.

Shakespeare’s Puck is a hobgoblin, for example, and this was a book I read as a kid and enjoyed:

I would agree that we shouldn’t call other human beings “goblins” (because at the very least it seems pretty rude, if not potentially antisemitic?) but calling my mom’s dog a goblin because she reminds me of a funny little creature doesn’t strike me as problematic. I could be wrong here, but as someone who has read a lot of folklore, the term “goblin” could apply to almost as diverse an array of different creatures as the term “dragon,” and I would rather focus on critiquing goblin characters that use antisemitic tropes than removing the word “goblin” from the lexicon.

The appropriate response to someone stating that the word ‘goblin’ is wholly antisemitic in of itself and should be outright banned from use - thereby discarding centuries worth of valuable folklore, prose, and verse - is “Get fucked”.

This is doing next to nothing to counter antisemitism and is instead trying to shame random individuals for brownie points. Focus up, for goodness sake.

I don’t know any self proclaimed goblin that is obsessed with money! Most love trinkets like buttons or shells or mushrooms or bones or ribbon. I’m with OP, anon. JKR is just a racist, antisemetic terf and anyone who tries to use goblin in a negative sense is wrong. Outright banning the word isn’t going to do anything about what JKR did.

Hello, i just finished making soap bars from soap scraps i collected through the year but i think i found some bumps on the way, do you have or any of your followers some advice?

I haven't made soap in years, so I don't think I can give any advice that would be useful to you. I'm sure some of my followers will have tips, though!

I did find some tutorials that explain the process of turning soap scraps into new bars by WikiHow, Instructables, and Mindful Momma.

Time to shine again!

First off, OP your soaps are gorgeous, you've done incredibly well, be proud of what you have accomplished!

Second off, know that my advice only comes from glycerin soap melt and pour making and using my own soap scraps within them.

Depending on how your soaps are made, the pros and cons will be different; melt and pour soaps don't go super hard like cold process soaps which require weeks of curing, but along with hot process soaps have better customisability when it comes to swirls and oils and colours. Also melt and pour soaps will 'sweat' but that's what they're designed to do (draw in moisture), so wrap them up immediately after making and keep them somewhere not humid.

If you're using soap scraps of all different types you probably will be using melt and pour or hot processing, and you'll have found that some will melt, some absolutely won't, and some will turn into a bit a sludge. That is all cool babey! Experiment and make it a feature!!

When it comes to oils, you want fragrance oils that are skin safe, or you want to be incredibly cautious about essential oils. most essential oils contain allergens which can irritate your skin a whole lot, and usually per 100g one is only allowed less than a gram of essential oil in order to keep it a good, safe, soap. however that means you'll not really smell anything. so stick to skin safe oils and always check the ingredients labels. If you see things like linalool or limonene, then you need to check up on how much of that thing you can use safely.

Again, with colours, whilst I can say that food colouring is fine, for personal use, it's not recommended by the industry, not a whit.

Last but not least, if you have some kind of alcohol spray to mist over the inside of your moulds before use and in between colour changes or over the top of your soaps when they are done, you'll have less annoying bubbles!

I just made a heartfelt post on my vet tech blog. I’ve let management know that I want the head tech position that opened up today and I’ve been thinking about what this all means. My husband thinks I should talk to the owner before making any other move right now. But I spoke to my coworker and she got me thinking about how terrible it will be to work directly under the hospital manager. How she will make my life hell just because we don’t agree on something. The hospital manager is already playing it off like I don’t have leadership skills (I literally was third key/shift manager of a shoe store for two years, what?!) and don’t do well with stress (but earlier today she complimented me on how great I am in an emergency! Again, what?!). I’ve been passed up for this position 3 times in 11 years. I will not sit quietly while she does it again. My coworker is right, the manager will not hesitate to put more stress on me. I’m too old to play games. And you know what?! I’m too good to let them tell me over and over I’m not good enough, I’m not doing enough. I’m not worthy of management but I’m worth keeping around forever cuz I’m the best at drawing blood and cleaning teeth and taking radiographs and blah blah blah…

I think I’ve decided to look for a new job. I make a lot of money where I am now for a vet tech in this area. But is that worth my mental health? I am sure I’ll have to take a pay cut but I’m done busting my balls for a place to be told I’m not good enough over and over. 11 years without promotion is a long time.

I had to say goodbye to a coworker/friend today. She has to take her own journey of self discovery and I hope she figures out what she needs. I made her a ruby bracelet though and she still has the elephant origami I made for her several months ago. This text made me cry.
