Finally drew something I want to post
Mr. "Little Beauty" himself! Ulysses S. Grant as Desdemona.
I have a bad pencil and eraser so I couldn't fix up the smudges or detail the hands whomp whomp. The lighting is weird because it's on paper. This is a photo taken in a shadow just edited because there is a huge scratch through the drawing that is super visible in sunlight.
The outfit he's wearing is based off 1840s women's fashion and paintings of Desdemona depictions.
Grrr Magruder is a femboy hater 😔
its his day which means im putting more heterosexuals on the blog. sorry everyone.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GENERAL GRANT!!!!

You know, with the 160th anniversary of the assassination of Lincoln coming up, I always think of Ford’s theatre and how cool it is that it is an active theater, as the one original thing in the building itself (other than artifacts and the outside brick, the theater/box is a 95% accurate replica of what it would have looked like in 1865 just due to crime scene pics) is that it is an active theater.
Edwin Stanton said it should never be a place laughed in again, but Lincoln would have wanted it to be an active theater. He came there for a place of relief of war (up to 8 times before killed) and a place of celebration and laughter. Laughing is the last thing he will ever do.
Whenever I visit, I remember to feel the joy Lincoln wanted there and feel the sorrow of his passing in the Peterson house. Anyways not to get all sentimental but… pretty cool stuff
Bringing this forward today for the 160th anniversary 😭
i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.
make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.
spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.
'you should just assume that people love your fics even if they don't give kudos/don't write comments'
ok, consider this: that is actually infinitely more painful.
people disliking my fics doesn't bother me. the thought that there are people out there who love my fics, yet don't consider the time and energy that I put into them, worth the time and energy it takes them to give kudos/write comments on the other hand, is discouraging at best and heartbreaking at worst.
Civil War in Focus – Mathew Brady’s Photography 🎩🥁
A century before smartphones, Mathew Brady and his team pioneered war photography. Brady (1820s–1896) organized dozens of photographers to document the Civil War – from bloody battlefields to stoic portraits. The National Archives holds thousands of these glass-plate images in the Brady collection (many originally War Dept records).
Brady’s photographs fundamentally changed how the public saw war. For the first time, civilians could see the reality of camp life, the aftermath of battles, and the faces of soldiers.
President Lincoln credited Brady’s portrait of him at Antietam with helping win re-election in 1864 (saying "Brady and the Cooper Union speech made me President.")
Brady’s crew didn’t just photograph battlefields but everyday stillness and the daily grind of camp life for soldiers and crew.
Field kitchens were a favorite Brady subject – this rare stereo image shows Army cooks preparing stew in big cauldrons over fire pits.
Mathew Brady’s photographs are freely accessible in NARA’s Catalog. See faces of named soldiers, panoramic ruins of Richmond, or the eerie stillness of Antietam right after the fight. It’s a 160-year-old visual archive that still speaks volumes about honor, sacrifice, and the birth of photojournalism.
