rwby's refusal to be killed goes so well with the themes of the show it almost feels like performance art. the indomitable human spirit and such

so how's about another Take Root wip?
there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something
take these tags, on somebody else's post (condolences pip)
the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection
so today a group of 8-9 year old kiddos approaches my desk and goes “hey. we want to go to the downstairs part of the library.”
i’m like “you can totally go downstairs, but just so you know, right now the only thing down there is the genealogy department. that’s like the history of this area and the people who lived here a long time ago.”
i’m expecting them to lose interest, but to my surprise, they go “we want to see the genealogy department!!!!!!”
so i’m like “alright let’s do it!!!!” and lead this group of maybe six elementary school kids across the library make way for ducklings style and downstairs to our extremely not kid friendly genealogy room. our genealogy librarian is super cool, though, and he pulls out a few interesting things for them to look at & they ask a lot of questions and try to find where they live on maps from the 1800s
after about fifteen minutes, their curiosity has been sated, so we go back upstairs and over to the children’s department in that same duckling parade style
truly wish i could render this little scene artistically for you all it was a delight
will you guys cancel me if i say that queer tragedy has a place in the creative arts and shouldn’t immediately be dismissed as bury your gays
adding @glorious-spoon 's astute tags:
#bury your gays and women in refrigerators and the black guy dies first are all about treating marginalized people like props#to further the story of the (white straight male) protagonist#that's not the same thing as a tragedy! some stories are tragedies! whose story has weight and meaning - that's the question
reliving middle school a bit

So when are you gonna do clovember again? Are you going to do clovember again?
Hi there, anon! I hadn't planned to do another Clovember, as there did not appear to be demand for it after 2021. Since you've asked, though, let's do an interest check right here. Let's say it would be for weekly prompts instead of daily, to make it easier both for planning and for participating.
If interested in participating by supporting others who create works for such an event, tap the like button.

Should this post get at least ten of each by unique users over the next month or so, then I'm down.
Fair Game Week Day 1: Preening/Bad Habits

Fair Game Week 2026 Day 2 - Close Calls | Nightmares
Qrow gasps for air as his back hits wet sand. Coughs involuntarily with the weight that lands on top of him. Head turned to the side until the spasm settles and he thinks he can breathe again.
“You idiot!”
Scaled hands plant on either side of Qrow, and Clover lifts himself fully up on arms. Scowling down at the man beneath him. At coral eyes that wince as they open, look up at him in turn.
“Of all the stupid-! What the hell were you thinking, following me out there? Were you trying to drown yourself?”
Shaking with anger. Or was it fear? Adrenaline screaming across nerves as he continues to yell in the moron’s face. Head spinning. Mind spiraling. What if he hadn’t gotten there in time? What if he hadn’t noticed? What if-
“You could have died, Qrow!”
Qrow, to his credit, doesn’t flinch in the face of… this side of Clover he has not seen before. Still waterlogged. Lightheaded. Vaguely aware of the fact he is being yelled at, and probably rightfully so.
Hard to focus on the words. On any of it, really. Distracted.

before you sink your teeth in and I forget how to breathe tell me what if I drown?
Fair Game Week 2026 Day 3: Fantasy / Ever After
This is a witch hat atelier au because I am obsessed. Little spoilers and context the mark on Clover is spell that has brought him back from the dead but it’s forbidden and not a permanent solution.
Also tried changing up my style for this with inspiration taken from the manga.
