Hello!

This blog is primarily for me to giggle about things I like, though you may occasionally encounter some of my incoherent thoughts on anything under the sun.

Interests:

Linguistics. Technically a conlanger, though due to life getting in the way I am in the embarassing position of having to relearn my own language 💀. Best informed on ancient British and Irish langauges, but I'll have a crack at anything.

Ecology. I also like shuffling around a good garden. I WILL greenfingered grandfathermog you all someday 🗣

Theatre. I tend to favour plays but mostly just because I can't sing and I'm petty as shit 😌 Have discovered in recent years a surprising love of the really out there stuff (recession indicator???). big into that shakespeare fellow.

Philosophy/theology, though at the minute mostly just because my qualifications are asking me to be interested in them. I have strong opinions on a certain mr john calvin.

Woke up in the middle of the night thinking about how well Chronicles of Narnia and His Dark Materials would play together in a mutually post-canon setting. You might have to fudge the timelines a little to have Susan and Will interact but maybe not. What if you had a magical adventure in another world in your childhood and your childhood is now very definitively irrevocably over. What if you walked through a door knowing it was the only way to move forward and live your life and also knowing exactly what you were giving up. What if the people you love were worlds away and you could never see them again. What if you saw God die but it was for the best.

I just want Susan and Will to talk to each other.

Another one for Inuit artists is Piqsiq! Two sisters who’ve been doing traditional throat singing since they were kids. They make some really gorgeous, eerie, atmospheric stuff. Highly recommend watching this video of them performing live a cappella using a looping machine, because they might be the coolest people on the planet actually

For anyone into North Asian and Central Asian folk music, there's this incredible Siberian folk-pop band called Otyken! The group is mostly women and they're from multiple indigenous groups in Siberia, with songs being sung in their range of different languages. They're so much fun and their music videos are amazing!

i'll go ahead and recommend The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), an EDM group from First Nations Ontario that do really cool fusions of First Nations music with dubstep, moombahton, and hip hop.

Haven't seen Belle Sisoski here yet so here we go: she's the current Artist of Year for BURO impact Awards. She's from Malaysia and knows how to play an insane amount of ethnic instruments and mixes them with her own voice. She does covers and her own songs, mixes ethnic instruments with Techno and shows the process. And she's also a live DJ at 19!

Kerry being the voice of reason, the responsible adult, the sane one if you will, out of the ER characters is so funny to me because it's like....that girl is not remotely mentally normal. This is the same woman who pretended (not actually did because that somehow would be more rational) to flee the country for like three weeks because she accidentally came out to Romano. She once bribed a patient into going to rehab using drugs...and then he didn't go. And it was never brought up again. She once fangirled over a patient while he was like actively having an anxiety attack. SHE WROTE FANFICTION ABOUT HER COWORKERS. I love her dearly and I do think she's the most rational one there but it's like guys if she's the normal one then the bar is on the ground...and she like just barely stepped over it.
