Mike&Jane rant from a Byler
It always stand out to me how he kept his eyes wide open in this scene
Like I'm sorry but Mileven doesn't sell it for me here, cause why is he just standing there not even reaching for her. Poor girl 😭
But if you think about it they had broken up in this season and hadn't officially gotten back together (until this scene supposedly)
This is kinda mwtfdyd gate 2.0 cause what happened in those three months in ST3 (after their fight) huh
(Added Will cause awww and also the blue and yellow in the background is so obvious lol!)
If you don't believe in coincidences (iykwim) then you can see how there's a sequence of the couples/ships at the end of ST3
First Lumax
Second Byler
Third Jancy
Fourth Mileven
Also this is never shown to have happened
Neither this
(He goes to Cali during springbreak)
Oh and lastly Jopper mention!
So yeah, very obvious love triangle portrayals there with Will/Mike/El
And I'll just leave this there as a bonus
Jane: I love you Mike: blank
"Oh but he grew up not being able to say I love you because of his parents"
Let's take a look at his sister Nancy!
With Steve
With Jonathan (okay it's their un-proposal scene but whatever)
Maybe the problem is not about the abscense of words but the cause of it in the first place
lmao why do antis keep commenting on lwg stuff
how bored must they be
god I wish my finals were about byler instead
I don't think upsidedownspain on ig is an official stranger things account
They seem to be the agency behind comic cons and other events in Spain surrounding ST but nothing more
At least it seems like most of their posts are reposts from other accounts and I think they aren't followed by any other official ST accounts or by the cast
Pero bueno ojalá sí signifique algo que hayan dado pistas de más contenido de ST aunque sea relacionado con algún evento que vayan a hacer
Creo que a la Comic Con de Málaga se había anunciado que van a ir algunos actores 👀
Edit: okay I actually don't know anymore
guys is the first shadow good? should I be excited that they'll prolly bring it to Netflix soon?
i've held pieces of paper more lovingly than this so has mike was a generational interaction by the way
I still think writing a slow burn rejection is crazy like huh
Will's self acceptance storyline didn't need him to be in love with his best friend for years at all, they just wrote all that angst for funsies
Honestly I like the idea of post epilogue/university confident Will × loser Mike
Like Will is out and about living his life to its full potential being unapologetically himself in an art uni and Mike is stuck in his basement all day writing fantasy stuff as escapism with huge eyebags (although canon Mike does go to uni after hs)
AND THEN Mike finally gets out of his house and goes to a uni party with Will and they make out and he freaks out but after some inner angst he realises who he is and gets his shit together but he still dresses for a while like a preppy nerd and Will kinda digs it but he won't say it

Thank you to @forever-hyperfixating and @thesilvercatfish for providing the photos i couldnt find!!!😙😙
and the message/letter with blanks that the stranger things writers posted on Twitter that never appeared (the one that people speculated would be from Mike to Will and end with Love, Mike) 👀
Queer songs in ST5
Something that I truly cannot comprehend is why they would buy the rights to various songs known to be labeled as queer anthems (or associated with the community) and then use them in the most mundane ways possible.
(Let's remember that ST was the first ever show to be able to have Purple Rain in its soundtrack)
By this I'm talking about songs like Upside Down for S5E1, I think we're alone now being used for Holly's dancing scene, Heroes simply being played in the credits and Purple Rain being used for the void scene ().
In the official WSQK album there are also songs that weren't even used in the show itself that are often associated with the lgbt+ community like Bicycle Race by Queen.
And then there are songs (verbally mentioned) like Human Cannonball by The Butthole Surfers...do I need to say more?
I understand that these are all popular 80s songs, but it feels maybe a bit too coincidential to have them all be a part of ST5, or at least that is what I thought when watching it 😔.
saying "byler was never in the cards" is as senseless as if they had scrapped demos from the finale
oh, wait...
someone please get me back on the bus, I miss it
Mileven kiss scene queer subtext (El knows)
Ok, we all know how wrong THAT scene felt for both characters and how forced it seemed (despite there being intimacy coordinators).
Purple Rain by Prince is the key in my opinion, but not in the way most would think.
The song starts playing at the flashbacks of their past scenes.
(Ignoring how obvious it is that "you've seen me, the real me" and right after her being shown dressed up with a wig is so contradictory, let's not get into that right now).
I want to give focus to the lyrics here:
I never meant to cause you any sorrow I never meant to cause you any pain I only wanted one time to see you laughing I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain
This scene is in those flashbacks:
In my point of view this is Mike's message to El, he didn't want to hurt her, he just couldn't love her (like she wanted, romantically) despite him trying. I think El knows this, she realises right after in the original scene that he does love her in a platonic way, but of course that is not what she had hoped for and therefore her expression.
(S4EP8)
In S5 she has finally internalised it's not about her, but about Mike's sexuality. Accepting it is the reason she is able to understand Mike and smile at him here:
The next lyrics in the scene go:
It's such a shame our friendship had to end Purple rain, purple rain x3
"Wait, but those are not the full lyrics" is what I thought.
And that is where it gets interesting, as the song actually goes after the first part:
I only wanted to see you bathing in the purple rain I never wanted to be your weekend lover I only wanted to be some kind of friend, hey Baby, I could never steal you from another
It may be a reach, but I think this is El talking back to Mike. She didn't want to be just some "girlfriend" (his beard) but his actual friend, and the last line is a total reference to her knowing about his bond with Will and it being the reason they couldn't work out as a couple.
And after the song is cut off it actually goes:
I only wanted to see you underneath the purple rain Honey, I know, I know, I know times are changin' It's time we all reach out for something new, that means you too You say you want a leader, but you can't seem to make up your mind And I think you better close it and let me guide you to the purple rain
El continues to talk to Mike with these lyrics, she wants him to know she (in a way) allows him to be himself and go after what he truly wants deep down (Will).
Mike is called "The Heart" (Will calls him this while El is listening in S4EP8), but he doesn't act like it, not at all in all of S5. He lacks leadership because he is always indecisive between being himself and being what society expects from him.
Let me guide you. El and Mike have such a strong (platonic) bond, of course she would want him to find himself, and maybe in her mind that includes him losing her.
I know this is just an interpretation, but I really do think it could fit into perspective and personally I prefer to see it that way.
Thanks for reading.
Mike doesn't love El/Jane in canon
Even if Byler isn't/wasn't meant to be Mileven wasn't either.
So we all agree that the argument Milevens used that Mike didn't tell El he loved her was because "he has a hard time saying it because of his parents" is total bs, right?
Like it even feels intentional in the epilogue to have him say to his mother he loves her after he is unable to say "I love you" back to Jane (as she is literally dying mind you).
The only time he says it is in that scene where he shouts it in front of everyone in st3 and when his gf tells him she loves him too and kisses him he is left with this face...
"He was surprised/confused" They have been shown kissing like a hundred times in previous episodes like be fr. And again, "he rarely hears I love you" while that could be true, it isn't something that he is completely unfamiliar with for him to react that way.
The last time they kiss (before The Finale) is in S4E4 while Mike is wearing sunglasses and is jealous of the "girl Will likes" (lmao).
She even has an on screen discussion with Mike about how he doesn't even write he loves her, we are shown this as something important. We are meant to notice Mike's sudden shift and question his behaviour. And they both never talk about it again, Mileven is a couple that doesn't communicate at all.
That is why their final kiss scene doesn't feel impactful or sad, it feels forced (and kinda dumb).
I don't care what The Dumbffers say, Mike never loved Jane romantically.
And I often question if she even did like him as more than a friend, because she never really has any meaningful conversation with him as a couple that makes the fandom actively ship them. We are never shown what she even likes about him, or why she likes him at all apart from him being her first ever friend and helping her hide from Papa.
It is often stated that if Will was a girl Byler would be the n°1 ship and canon, but I'd like to add that if Jane was a boy nobody would ship Mileven (lolz).
About Conformitygate without another episode(s)
A little rant
After all this time since the Finale aired (and I was left utterly underwhelmed) I think it's safe to say that there may be (pessimistically speaking) nothing else coming out that would change Stranger Things' ending.
However at this point, taking into consideration all continuity mistakes and plotholes, plus how unsatisfactory felt the final episode and how flat some characters landed, I have accepted wholeheartedly what is shown (specially in episode 8) to be a mere illusion created by Vecna (as "Vecna lives" as implied).
But then, what I don't understand is why would the Duffers (and the writing team) choose for the main villain to win? As a plot twist? I doubt it, as it is not the general given interpretation. A f you to Netflix? It would and has not impacted anyone else negatively but themselves, so no. A rebel choice? Could be, but then what would be the reason of all the buildup? All the implication on the aspect of "can love conquer fear?", what is it for if they just loose.
I am aware that conformitygate doesn't directly understand the ending as incomplete but rather interprets it in its own way, but if that actually was the end then it would mean that Vecna just wins. And if he wins then it shows that Henry is truly never salvagable, Mike is never able to be true to himself and others, Jane can never have a happy life and any half positive outcomes for other characters are just distorsions, they're not real.
That completely obliterates everything, because we never get to know anything else apart from that about the characters' endings. The Finale and the epilogue just feel empty, because it's fake, in a way that we are still left with the doubt of what truly happened. If we never get to see the truth then there is no point in any of the plot from season 5, and why would they choose to make a season that is worthless for the plot.
I have lost much hope for a "secret episode" or something related, but there is still a glimpse of me that believes because I can't help but be unable to fathom an ending where we are just left to accept defeat, that is not Stranger Things' message.
Ty for reading!
Also, still thinking about that random ass woman, the military shot thinking it was Jane 💀
Genuinely what was she doing and why?
