Happy Mabon!
Mabon Series [1], I made a besom today!
Contents: Leaf, branch and grass.
If you want to try yourself, here's an Instructional!
Go outside and look for a leaf that calls to you. Try to use your intuition here! Make sure it can bend a fair amount so it doesn't snap.
Using your intuition again, find a branch or stick of any size. You can alter my example to whatever size, it's YOUR besom!
Find some nicely sized grass and pick it. Lay all your ingredients down together.
CLEANSE CLEANSE CLEANSE! You could meditate, use crystals, pray, smoke cleanse, use energy, bells, spray with cleansing spray, whatever you do / use to cleanse, MAKE SURE YOU CLEANSE IF THE ENERGY IS OFF.
Take your branch/stick and put the leaf on it. Curve the end of the leaf, where the stem is, around the middle part (or wherever you choose) of your stick. Take your grass and tie it around the besom.
You may need to tie it multiple times, I tied mine around the besom ~10 times or so. If not, congratulations! You've finished making your besom! :)
I found this beautiful and informative wheel of the year on etsy and I wanted to share it with you.

Does anyone have any advice for finding out which/if deities are trying to contact you?
I've seen many signs of deities or higher beings trying to contact me, but I can't figure out who or why. In the past, I briefly worked with Aphrodite, but she essentially said at that time I no longer needed her help. Perhaps she has returned back to my craft? I see many of her signs, posts about her here, and my intuition is slightly pulling towards her. My candle flames have been giving signals of higher beings becoming interested in my craft.
simple exercises for baby witches ♡🌱
- meditate. even five minutes every day does wonders for developing self-understanding and your connection to the earth and spiritual realm.
- hone your intent- your most powerful tool. write your desires on a piece of paper and seal it with wax, or burn it (safely) in a candle. since intent is usually represented by fire, stare into flame and imagine it manifesting as your intentions or a kind of familiar that will stay will you and help you in your journey.
- consecrate your food. before eating, consider its origins and thank all that is responsible for bringing it to you.
- create an altar. this can be as complex or as simple as you like- crystals and candles help, but all you truly need is your intent and any objects that prompt you to consider and value whatever you dedicate your altar to (a deity, nature, a festival, yourself…)
- develop a habit of starting or ending your day with some yoga. as you do so, make sure to thank the sun for rising and for setting, the moon for being so serene and the stars for all the stories they hold.
- connect with the elements. whether you are walking, sitting, falling asleep- balance yourself by acknowledging the elements. for example, notice your breath (air), notice the weight of your body or your contact with the ground (earth), notice your thoughts and emotions, or simply the saliva in your mouth (water) and notice your heartbeat (fire).
- bath magic! this is a favourite of mine simply because it is so versatile- use salts, bath bombs, candles, crystals, lavender or petals in order to clear negativity, cleanse for a spell, honour a deity, help heal yourself, strengthen self love and care, renew intentions and goals…
- practice a grounding exercise- do some research into what kind of grounding you like the most. I usually imagine roots drawing up energy from the earth’s core.
- go outside for the sake of going outside. talk to the flowers and trees and wind. acknowledge the extraordinary complexities of nature- how science and magic flows and interacts to form our beautiful planet.
- be thankful. you are alive! isn’t that incredible? whatever happened, whatever is going to happen, you are fortunate enough to be here, living and breathing and experiencing. keep doing so.

Connecting with Trees
Working with Trees
***Before working with trees, please be knowledgeable about them. There are toxic / poisonous trees that one should not touch or handle in any way. Start with widely-recognizable trees, such as pine or oak, if you are a novice.***
Trees have held special magical meanings in cultures around the world. They are gateways to working with Earth energy and Earth magic. Each type of tree has its own special meaning, so utilize a tree that resonates best with your intentions. Here are some ways to work with trees within your magical path:
🌳Learn about trees. Read books; do research online etc. Recognize and identify them by sight. Know their seeds, leaf shapes etc. Learn both the magical correspondences and the scientific / botanical facts about them.
🌳Visit a tree and offer water or a small gemstone at the roots to honor its spirit. Touch the tree and pray for its well-being. Then thank it for providing oxygen, food (if it has edible parts), a home for small creatures, and shade. Say goodbye and do not pick fresh leaves or twigs etc from it.
🌳Go forest bathing. (Safely) venture into a local forest or heavily-wooded park. Ask the trees to recharge you and fill you with restorative verdant energy. Observe the natural beauty, listen to the birds singing, breathe calmly...take it all in. Reverently walk through the area and thank the trees for the healing.
🌳Pray over a ribbon. Speak your wishes to it. Then ask a tree's permission to work with you. If you sense confirmation and acceptance, loosely tie the ribbon on a branch or twig to help bring your goals to fruition.
🌳Collect three small fallen twigs and pray over them. Whisper your intentions into them. Then stake them into the earth to help anchor the energy in the material world and to manifest your desires.
🌳Sit at the foot of a tree and meditate, daydream, read, or have a picnic. Thank the tree for its shade and company when done.
🌳Collect fallen acorns, pinecones, or seeds from the foot of a tree. Place them on your altar and utilize them in spells and rituals.
🌳Plant a small tree if you have the outdoor space. Speak kind words to the plant and tend to it with care as it grows.
🌳Work with a twig to use as a magic wand. Bless it and wash it with blessed water first. Kiss the wand when done consecrating it (do NOT handle toxic trees or place them near your mouth).
🌳Utilize a tree stump as an altar table. Pray over the damaged, fallen, or chopped tree stump (do NOT purposely chop down a tree for this...find a fallen one that you have encountered by happenstance). Ask the tree its permission to give it a second life as an altar table. Place gemstones upon it and bless it.
🌳Hold a twig upright in each hand. Cross your arms over your chest. Close your eyes and think of your goals, your dreams, or simply meditate. Imagine lines of energy flowing through the twigs, up into the sky and down towards the earth. Envision your success and happiness. Hold that space and feel empowered. When finished, place the twigs in the shape of an X on the ground.
🌳Be a protector of trees. Join a tree-planting group or environmental protection & preservation society. Donate to public botanical gardens etc. as well.
I hope that these suggestions are helpful!
Friendly reminder that indie tarot and oracle decks are “expensive” because they’re not mass produced. Believe me, most indie artists wish we could price them lower and make them more accessible, but unless we meet certain quotas, we’re losing money and paying out of pocket. We can’t even sell them at cost because we still have to pay taxes on our sales. We have to pay marketplace fees to sell online. We pay fees just to make transactions. Most of us aren’t even paying ourselves minimum wage for the time that goes into making and distributing our work. Indie decks aren’t overpriced. They just cost more to produce and market.

What you need to know about the upcoming Harvest Moon in September 🌙✨🍁🍂
September 20-21st
Harvest Moon and the autumn equinox
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we call the full moon closest to the autumn equinox the Harvest Moon. In 2021, the Northern Hemisphere autumn equinox comes on September 22. The full moon falls less than two days earlier, on September 20. Thus, for the Northern Hemisphere, this upcoming full moon – the full moon closest to our autumn equinox – is our Harvest Moon.
How did the Harvest Moon get its name?
The shorter-than-usual lag time between moonrises around the full Harvest Moon means no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise for days in succession.
In the days before tractor lights, the lamp of the Harvest Moon helped farmers gather their crops despite the diminishing daylight hours. As the sun’s light faded in the west, the moon would soon rise in the east to illuminate the fields throughout the night.
What to do on a Harvest Moon?
1. Make some preserves 🍯
Visit the farmer’s market and buy some local produce. You don’t need to be an expert to make a simple jam or apple sauce that will keep you eating healthy through the winter. Putting away some of the summer harvest is intensely satisfying and so easy to do.
2. Stargaze 🌌
If the sky will be clear where you are, make a cozy space outside where you can watch the moon rise. If you’re with your family, a blanket fort that the kids can enjoy is perfect. With your partner? Make it a romantic night out with a picnic and a bottle of something special. By yourself? Get all your favorite foods, some great tunes and watch that big old beautiful moon rise.
3. Sort out the unusable fruit 🪵🌾
It’s time to weed out the bad apples – take stock. What is no longer working for you in your life? What lessons have you learned this summer? What do you need? What gives you joy? What do you need to let go of? While you’re out enjoying your garden picnic (or at the window in a comfy chair) decide what deadwood you are letting go of as the seasons change. A good pruning will help you flourish.
(tip: write the answers to those questions in your journal!)
4. Celebrate the bounty ☕🍁🍂
Gather your nearest and dearest! Cook a feast to share, have a bonfire or meet in the park for coffee. Celebrate all the fun you had this summer and everything you accomplished. Make sure to eat lots of delicious, homemade food and dance by the light of the moon. These are the last warm evenings for a while.
5. Organize your "cave" 🧹
It’s natural to lament the coming of the cold, but you can also find ways to look forward to snuggling in for the winter. Get your knitting out, dig up the cozy blankets and wool sweaters. How about some new tea blends and slow cooker recipes? Make a list of fall books to read and movies to watch. Making your "cave" cozy will leave you comfortable and looking forward to the change.
6. Give thanks 🙏💛
Having an attitude of gratitude will leave you focusing on all that you’ve accomplished this summer, instead of dreading the ending of it. This is a wonderful time to get back to your morning meditation practice, taking daily walks and stretching! No more procrastinating!
7. Set new intentions 😌🌿🦋
The full moon is prime time for letting go and beginning anew. Lay out under the stars and dream/script about what you’d like to manifest this winter. Summer isn’t the end of fun, it’s the start of something new. Learning to play a new instrument? Writing a book? Whatever it is, let your mind wonder to wild and wonderful places.
Sincerely, Envylialla 🦋🍁✨
