You would think this is a deep quote from a famous artist or writer or even philosopher, but no, it’s a line from fucking Detective Dick Gumshoe in the Ace Attorney series.
Someone put this on a fancy background please
I am at your service.
People are asking about the context. You should know that Gumshoe is talking about the janky-ass dancing Blue Badger animatronic that he made.
I am slowly losing my mind over the shift towards video as the default media format.
I do not find this to be an efficient way to absorb information. I am bored and distracted by the time the largely unnecessary introduction is over. I can't use ctrl+f to find the specific information I'm looking for. If there are instructions to follow, I don't want to have to constantly pause and back up to the part I need.
At least give me a fucking transcript.
I can read faster than you can talk and these videos are wasting my time.
by far the most jarring thing about new avatar stuff is the lack of noses/nose diversity
what happened to their round noses! give them back their noses!!!
even comparing the new stuff to korra—all four korra protagonists had different noses. the character designs in the new movie look so bland and homogeneous in contrast
Kawkaw wants to play!
I was 12 when the first of my siblings was born, so I have very vivid memories of the way my mother was excluded from a lot of spaces because people find children annoying.
If you think "children should not be allowed in this space," you HAVE TO reckon with the fact that you are now excluding parents (and very often women specifically) who don't have access to childcare. You are isolating people who are poor, or rural, or single parents, or any number of other factors that might prevent someone from having on-demand childcare. You are cutting them off from being able to exist in public. You are denying parents and children the ability to fully participate in society.
My mom spent several years only leaving the house to buy groceries or take me to school, and even then, people would still come up to her to complain TO HER FACE about how she shouldn't bring a crying toddler to Walmart. Entitled strangers would literally try and demand that my mom leave and come back without the kids.
"Why can't your husband watch them?" Because he was at work, usually working extreme amounts of overtime so we didn't get evicted, because landlords don't like it when you stop paying rent.
"Why can't you send them to daycare?" Because that costs money.
"Why can't your teenager stay home with them and babysit?" Because I also deserved to be able to leave the house for something other than school, and taking me to the grocery store was how my mom taught me to manage a household budget, shop sales, and meal plan.
"Don't bring your kid in public if you can't CONTROL them and make them stop crying!" Kids cry when they're upset, and being dragged around a store is upsetting! Don't be an asshole! Children are human beings who are still learning how the world works, and they don't have a lot of agency. You'd cry, too.
"Spank them until they learn to stop crying!" That's just straight-up child abuse, Jesus Christ.
What the fuck was our family supposed to do? Never go to the grocery store? Starve because strangers couldn't handle a toddler existing in public?
not exactly "kids are annoying" but my mother was just telling me a story about when she was going to the bank with my grandmother to get a loan shortly after i was born (she was running a small business at the time), and the banker was giving her dirty looks and making comments about the fact that she had a baby with her. i was not even crying! i was a very chill baby! but the mere PRESENCE of a child in his space was offensive to him.
which i feel like goes to show how ageism and misogyny are intertwined as forces. the public sphere and all the activities we do in are masculinized and adultified, while the private sphere is feminized and associated with children. people seen as women and children do not have a right to the public sphere in the same was an adult cis man does. the presence of both people seen as women and children in a public space, doing things, is a violation of the implicit right of adult cis men to segregate themselves from women and children, and all things associated with them (caretaking, emotional expression) which "taint" the objective, aggressive, masculine public space.
My weekend project :> I wanted a little buddy to sit on the edge of my cubicle at work.
I'm considering making Karoto as a paperweight.
europeans be like “omg north americans are so racist it’s horrible” and then elect fascists
I would like to emphasize that I agree with all of these tags by the way. My post wasn't aiming to pin all of Europe's grotesque racism on the new elections.
A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.
Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

Greece passes draconian legislation with prison terms for rejected asylum seekers by Helena Smith (The Guardian).

Italy sends 40 rejected asylum seekers to Albania by Karl Sexton (DW).
Record number of migrants, refugees reached Canary Islands by sea in 2024 (Al Jazeera).

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.
Never let anyone from Europe feed you the lie that racism and fascism are unique to North America in the 21st century.

One time I was at a pub trivia night with some writer friends and we almost won but there was a tie. As a tiebreaker they asked us and the other team to write down as many moons of Jupiter as we could in two minutes.
None of us are very into astronomy so at first everyone was like oh we’re gonna lose but there were three of us at the table that night who were either former classics majors or otherwise super well read on Roman mythology and the three of us were like give us that paper right now and we just took turns writing down all of the lovers of Jupiter from mythology that we could.
So of course we won lol
You really never know what random niche knowledge you have will come in handy at trivia night. You really don’t.
I HAVE FOUND. THE MOST AMAZING WEBSITE.
it’s called braceletbook.com and it appears to be a resource for like…friendship bracelets? And making cool patterns for them? Which is super cool and I do want to try it. But all of these patterns absolutely work as cross stitch patterns
Like. Look at this!
Again it’s geared towards bracelets so they tend to be long and skinny, which is the only major limitation. But you can search and filter by number of colors, I’m making myself a frog bookmark.
anyway I thought you and your followers might enjoy!
Thank you for spoiling me with this! I'm going to lose some time here for sure!
