Excited to announce the official start to Your Voice Matters! These events will provide an opportunity for individuals to share their story in a variety of different ways. We are inviting artists, poets, musicians, writers, or anyone who wants to share their story to come out to our events. We will be in the Hamburg Library from 1-3 PM on 6/24/17 following the wonderful @coltonsjourneytoliberation event on 6/23/17! We want these events to present hope for people struggling with any type of hardship. We already have a great list of people for this event! If anyone knows of a public location - library, coffee shop, or any other location within your community, we would love to bring TWTYE to your neighborhood! #mentalhealthawareness #openmic #shareyourstory #yourvoicematters

Huge breakthrough. @haleyp8989 has worked tirelessly over the last year believing in what we are trying to do. Her high spirited ambition has led to another significant step in our goal to help as many people as possible. After following her dream and pursuing education in Colorado, she has continued to spread the word about TWTYE. Last week she presented to a classroom of students about TWTYE and was chosen to lead a community intervention project in Fort Collins, CO! I am so proud of her and she continues to carry on our long-term goals. We have been meticulously working on building a sustainable organization that is resourceful and helpful in every way possible. This is a huge step in the right direction! It will take time but within the next year I hope we have a fully functional database of local resources and hosted events to provide education, prevention & intervention for problems that continue to plague our society.

Our blog is officially live- link in bio! I'm honored to know @patricia_vi_ and call her a friend. The blog post she decided to share with the world will be the first of hopefully thousands that will change the way we communicate about mental health struggles. Two defining aspects of TWTYE are understanding and collaboration. These two components are critical to solving our society's response to mental health care. Patti outlines her experiences, struggles, hopefulness, and internal endurance. I cannot thank her enough for having the courage to openly discuss these topics. Her hope is to touch someone else who is dealing with anxiety, depression, or any other difficult emotional hardship. As I said the moment we started this- one connection can change the way we view, address, and combat a problem. I never thought it would end

There was a time in my life when I was uncertain, angry, depressed, resentful, and lost. I remember how painful it was to struggle within and feel alone. I never thought I would be able to escape the wrath of my own internalized demons. I was my own worst enemy, constantly blaming myself for things that I was the furthest from responsible for. I didn’t know how to process or address these problems because I always thought no one else would understand. Pain seems endless when its transpiring, but almost always ends without notice. It took me a long time to get to the point where I am at today. I was guilty for “ranking” my pain and invalidating my struggles, but I refuse to live that way anymore. I am happy with who I am and what I am capable of becoming. There doesn’t need to be perfect words to transcribe my happiness or explain my struggles. It’s just nice to know that people exist who are willing to listen, help, and understand. I really believe that there is never a moment where a person is alone. We are all inevitably connected in some way. If you’re in pain, feel misunderstood, or just need something or someone to bond with, let this be your community.

Tomorrow @jamietworkowski , the founder of @twloha will be at @theuniversityatbuffalo for a live lecture and Q&A. For those of you who don't know about To Write Love on Her Arms, it's a groundbreaking organization/movement that has helped people struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury, and suicide. Jamie is an inspiration to me and our organization. We only hope to help as many people as #twloha has assisted in ten years of operation. Please attend this FREE event. It's in our backyard and will be an unbelievable experience. Jamie, thank you for all the work you have done- you've made a difference in so many people's lives and I hope to emulate your passion and hard work in my own endeavors.
