Silly Zuko centric fanfic ideas that I want to write but probably never will:
The series except he's cursed with Murphy's Law and thus things gradually snowball until it's fully canon divergent
Zuko is actually a really great artist, and he has a habit of drawing just about everyone he sees. Members of his crew, random merchants, a person he passed on the street, ect. If he remembers their face, chances are, he's drawing it. He only really enjoys the process of drawing, and doesn't really care about the final product, and so has a bad habit of just leaving it behind. The crew secretly has a stash of his drawings, not wanting to get caught in case Zuko finds it embarrassing and quits leaving them around. He unknowingly gains a reputation as the anonymous artist who doesn't draw nobles, or rich people, or anything like that. But someone who captures the average, everyday person. People who have never dared to think of themselves as beautiful, but this drawing of them indisputably is, so it must be true. It just feels very in character for Zuko to leave behind hope and love everywhere he goes without ever knowing it. Even post canon, no one connects the mystery artist with the brand new Fire Lord Zuko
Fully crack oneshot where Zuko fucking HATES Zhao so much more than he does in canon, to the point where he switches sides halfway through season 1 just to spite him. The only person not affected by silly cartoonish out of characterness is Zhao
Zuko gets drugged by accident and somehow it's technically the Gaang's fault and so they babysit him until it wears off. You could go silly, or make it real angsty with Zuko panicking because he's surrounded by enemies and can't think straight. Up to the author really
Zuko was born with the uncanny ability to communicate with animals. Ozai orders everyone in the palace to lowkey gaslight kid Zuko into thinking this normal, because he doesn't want him to realize it's not. Iroh notices it when Zuko successfully talks some barnacles into getting off the bottom on the Wani, and when he asks random woodland critters if theyve seen a giant flying bison around. Sokka accidentally stumbles upon Zuko having a seemingly one sided conversation with Momo, and hangs back because it's funny and he doesn't want to get caught. But the more he watches, the more it seems like Momo is actually replying in his own weird little Momo way. Sokka concludes that one of two things is happening: Zuko is a little bit insane, or he's a little bit magical. There's no telling which one is worse
Drop him in a shitty slasher film and then see what happens
The Gaang plus the Fire Siblings somehow all end up at a rich people party or whatever in upper ring Ba Sing Se. There's some plot that needs filled in but you get the gist. Suddenly the entire mansion is on lockdown because the fancy rich guy got murdered and no one knows who did it. ATLA whodunnit murder mystery YAYYYYY can you tell I just watched all three Knives Out movies?
Episode one except Aang got stuck in the iceberg at 6 years old because he had a tantrum and activated the Avatar State and somehow ended up in the ocean with baby Appa. Zuko has spent 3 years hunting the Avatar, surely a 106 year old master of all the elements, only to find he's a 6 year old. A literal baby. Big brother instincts kick in and now he's found himself on the run from his own nation with a 6 year old and his uncle and two water tribe siblings who insisted on coming along. Also a baby sky bison too because apparently this wasn't all absurd enough
The Blue Spirit's shenanigans against random Fire Nation generals and such that Zuko has petty beef with. He's an angry teenager so he kinda had beef with everyone, so his alter ego is sure to be busy with mild vandalism and sabotage and being a general nuisance
The Gaang are fighting Zuko, as per usual, when Sokka's boomerang hits him just a little too hard and knocks him out. Whoops. Except... he's not getting back up. And it doesn't look like he's breathing. Basically Sokka accidentally kills Zuko, who comes back as a weirdly chill zombie. This is inspired by a House MD fanfic but I can't for the life of me remember the name. This premise sounds angsty but you GOT to lean into the silliness trust me it's funny
I saw a post about all the head trauma Zuko gets throughout the series, and it led to this idea. Basically season 1 Zuko is like that because he has perpetual concussions and once he's at the palace in season 3, not constantly getting into fights, he heals enough to suddenly realize that he's on the wrong side and gets redeemed. So you can have season 1 Gaang kidnap Zuko long enough for his poor battered brain to heal enough to listen to reason and see that his father is a bitchass loser who's gotta go down
Zukka fic where Sokka makes the impulsive decision to try and distract Zuko from his capture the Avatar mission by badly flirting. He doesnt except it to work, just throw him off enough for them to get away, except it DOES work and now Sokka feels bad because Zuko most definitely has a crush and isn't subtle about it at all. You could go more angsty and make it a one sided crush, or make Zuko start flirting back and Sokka realizes that he too is not immune to socially awkward swag
Appa gets a little confused about Zuko being around his family all the time, and assumes that he must also be part of the family, and refuses to listen with Aang tries to tell him that Zuko is the enemy. What a mean thing to say about a member of your family! Appa decides that as the only adult around, he must settle this little sibling squabble himself. Basically a fic entirely from Appa's pov where he adopts Zuko and makes all his kids make up and get along. Somehow it works.
These are all entirely open for anyone to use! Go wild I want to see my ideas written out for reals! And feel free to change or expand upon them however you want, these are just small little half baked ideas.
