Speed Sculpt | Torso Study | Male
30 minutes - Not allowed a reference
Not too shabby if I say so myself, and I say so
I like this animation better than my first one, honestly, even though I still see plenty of things wrong with it.
The one thing I do like about it though is the lighting, especially with how much trouble I had with the Lighting class. I feel like the soft shadows have successfully made it feel like outdoor lighting.
Now since I got critique about weight, I tried to work in some natural pauses. Something I'd like to practice on my own time is hand/finger manipulation and changes in facial expressions. I would have worked on the fingers a little more, but, I had to spend more time than I should have on an issue involving her clothing refusing to move with her body.
Honestly, despite how awkward her hands look, I'm pretty satisfied with this.
Can’t wait to look back at this after more animation classes and cringe.
This one I'm not quite satisfied with, but, it has come a long way in a month.
I had issues with the knee bend on the model, which made the walk end up looking kind of weird. After my initial idea of having a spotlight follow Mery, I had some feedback saying the moving light was distracting, so I put a larger red spotlight over her that stayed still and left the main focus on the animation.
I think if I could start over, it would be a lot easier to go in and fix little details, but for now, this isn't half bad for my first character animation.
Not tagging this for Art II since it’s not required for our blog portfolio, but again I wanted it on the general blog.
Color of Percy and character description.
Again, based on my real pet bunny !!
The grey on his fur is supposed to be black but I didn’t want to strain everyone’s eyes because of the black line-art.
And we were also told to compose 3 silhouettes of our created character that showed anticipation and weight.
Not much talking on these because I’m horribly tired.
So we had to make a character for Art II this week.
I made a character based on my real life pet bunny.
Here’s the character turn-around sheet ~
Might be scolded for posting two things not on the list. But still my best work so far, and is this not essentially a portfolio?
The render of the crocodile/polar bear splice!
Monsters with two distinct sets of teeth are my jammy jams.
I refuse to believe they don’t want these on our blog. This feels like some of my best work in this class so far.
Animal studies -
Crocodile: Full body - Eye - Hand
Polar Bear: Full body - Nose - Skull
Hybrid critter concepts -
Mostly bear with croc tail, teeth, claws, and textures
Mostly croc with bear fur, ears, paws, and no tail
And the one I fully rendered, the painful looking genetic splice, more of a 50/50 mix.
Action lines! Showing anticipation and weight and such ~
Decided to make this super nerdy and put in Kyle Ron I mean Kylo Ren
I’m huge into Star Wars sue me
I’ve noticed without fully relying on a hi-res reference my style is a lot more angular. Oh well. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
So this past week I had to paint from a gesture drawing and a reference.
I used Paint Tool SAI [sorry, Photoshop just doesn’t do it for me] and a tablet. I think I made her body and arm too long to be honest.
It was fun though, trying to really push the light and shadows!
A Cabinet In the Cloister
All the screenshots of my individual assets in soft mode next to their meshes are on my mac platform. I forgot to slide them over here to windows.
Except the dagger. Managed to upload that one to my stash on DA before switching from mac to windows. I really like how that came out, especially the blade. Looks like ye could pick it up ‘n’ go stab some dragons!
These were all modeled in parts, parts that they would have been built in irl.
The inside of the hourglass is modeled too if you look closely. You can see where the glass funnels into the small opening on the inside.
Also I learned how to UV map [kind of] all in three days, because my fundamentals class said it was optional and didn’t really explain it very well. Then this class expected me to automatically know how to do it.
SIGH.
The only one that mapped perfectly was the hourglass and probably because I had help.
Me: I should go model a chair for class.
Also me: Nah, I’m going to show off the opening doors on the bright pink cabinet instead.
I’m a serious comp animation student I swear.
This cabinet took tragically long because of each and every construction piece that had to be modeled.
Oh well I like how it came out. And yes it’s pink, I needed something other than the defaut exact same shade of gray as the background.
The doors open and close on hinges that I didn’t get a screencap of, but are inside the doors. The reference was just of a shut cabinet, but, I thought I’d add a little extra to my otherwise dull model.
