this is the most lethal photo i've seen in my life i'm about to do something drastic
something about all the supernatural characters or anyone not existing anymore in good omens but still being quite similar to their former selves scratched something in my brain. there's the possibility that God remade the universe using the same 'materials', just without the 'magic' which made them still, essentially, themselves (crowley with his astrophysics, aziraphale with his books, and eric and muriel being friends) is so satisfying. I think we're meant to believe that the universe in the ending is sort of our current world and the thought of my friends / people I know finding each other in any parallel universes or previous iterations of ourselves if they ever existed at all is just like a warm hug to me<3
i actually really liked the good omens finale and while there are definitely valid critiques to be made i feel like a lot of the more common complaints i’m seeing (at least off the bat) are the result of the fandom as a whole shifting towards appreciating good omens less for what it’s actually trying to say and more for aziraphale and crowley. i love aziracrow but gomens is a story about less about them and more about PEOPLE, and i really loved how it took every opportunity to uplift humanity and love and free will. i wish we had more but given the everything, i’m more than happy :)
Y'all really getting angry that Aziraphale and Crowley didn't kiss? Is it not enough for them to be LITERAL SPOUSES? To be able to find love while middle aged? To have at LEAST 20 years with each other? Is it so necessary for them to kiss in order for it to be a satisfying romantic relationship?
If the end universe of Good Omens is our universe, they would've lived through AIDS, they would've lived through same-sex marriage not being legal, they would've lived through all the struggle and strife that queer people have to deal with, and even with all of that they still found each other. They have a life together. They're happy. They hold hands and listen to a nightingale sing while watching the stars in their heart-shaped chairs in the yard of their shared home. FUCK.
Jesus was the best part of s3 I think
maybe im crazy, but my interpretation of the ending (and now the show as a whole) is that, this is US finding out about aziraphale and crowley.
its clear that the rewritten universe with the big bang and everything, is ours. the one god remade. the universe aziraphale and crowley existed in was the one that came before us, and their choice was the one that brought us here.
and its sad, its heartbreaking that they ceased to exist at the end, that they weighed their wants against that of the universe and chose the hardest option. its the bravest, saddest thing they could have chosen.
but you know how memories, and by extension people, can become stories? through this story, we can now know them.
i guess i saw god remaking the universe, and saw them stand before her, and decided to be just Kind for once. and make it so their essences do exist, they do find each other. but also that one day, their story gets told and so they can go on. eternity is a story that's passed down, and now we get to keep their story.
that post that's like. fans have got too used to acting as stakeholders. media analysis is about the narrative intentions not a checklist of what fans want. i think criticism of the finale because it didn't include specific elements we wanted to see is separate (if sometimes intertwined) from whether the narrative worked overall. because as an overall arc it makes sense. from the start they wanted an earth where humans could live their lives free to make their own choices, without interference or pre-determined rules and plans and divisions into heaven and hell. crowley believed the system couldn't be fixed, aziraphale believed god could be reasoned with, and in the end they were both right and they both got what they wanted: a chance for humans and them to make choices that were true to who they were. for crowley and aziraphale that was choosing each other. it always would be
well apparently everyone else hates it. i do not. i love it. i love what they did with it, i love that crowley got to choose, i love that he chose humanity, that he did not choose to run away.
because THAT is who he is. he loves his stars and creations, he loves humanity, he loves the messiness, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, he loves watching them. he showed jesus all the kingdoms of the world to share that love with someone who he knows already felt it.
in the end, they made that choice together. it's a choice they have made before, over and over, saving humanity over themselves. no god, no angels, no demons, no thousands of years of suffering for all the millions of eternal beings.
personally, i choose to believe that god's last gift to them was integrating them into the fabric of the new universe, so they will find each other in every lifetime. but without anyone watching, without any plan behind it, without senseless suffering, without creating stars just to destroy them.
just the two of them, together, always.

one of the things i like most about project hail mary is that ryland doesn't have a romance plot. it's such a relief to be able to watch an expansive, immersive sci fi movie about connection between all living beings and the power of courage and love between friends without gunking up the story with a romantic relationship. it emphasizes the immense sacrifice ryland was forced to make for all of humanity rather than shrinking that narrative down to one person
