there’s a misconception that grief only happens when we lose people. this is not true. we can grieve circumstances, relationships, missed opportunities. in fact, sometimes when you find yourself plagued with waves of emotion from sadness to melancholy you may be grieving yourself. the version of yourself that you might have been if things had been different, or if only you had said something, or if someone had stood up for you.

wow realizing that i can make myself happy right now is insane. i can buy that huge, oversized sweater to hide in while i drink hot tea. i can make collages out of old magazines and art catalogs to feel like i’m in an indie movie. i can go pick fresh flowers and put them in my hair so i feel like a carefree fairy maiden. i can do all these things. they’re within my grasp and so much closer than i realize. things are so much simpler than i previously chose to see them and that’s such a serious relief. happiness is within my reach.

friendly reminder that if you have a hard time eating due to nausea or other chronic illness ickies, just eat what you can eat. even if it’s not particularly “healthy,” getting calories in your body to help it function is more important.

this applies to fat people, folks with eating disorders, and autistic people who can’t eat certain foods!!!!!!!! we need to eat. it’s okay to eat “unhealthy” foods, sugary foods, processed foods. especially if it’s the only thing you can eat.
