A long time ago I had a yearning for some domestic Silver and Flint growing old together and that of course immediately took my thoughts to @vowel-in-thug’s amazing “st. augustine is that way” aka “the orange verse” and here we are :) Not any exact scene from the fic, but Silver is having a bath again and muses about cutting his hair to Flint’s horror.

Drinking Buddies

After hauling in a successful prize, the duo celebrates in Eleanor’s office drinking wine I mean watered-down rum and discussing Nassau’s future till the early hours of the next morning.

Another friendship piece with Eleanor and Flint :D I’m not actually sure what they are talking about at this particular moment — I just kept adding things and moving hands and this composition ended up looking the nicest, hahaha. Please do not repost elsewhere :)

Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny and Charles Vane buy the Nassau brothel. Jack contemplates his life choices while the other two take a nap (again). Nobody remembered the boa in the tree and the brothel (almost) got renamed “The Shrieking Calico” on that particular morning…

I found it really cute when Vane and Anne were sitting together on that uncomfortable wooden sofa in ep 1.05 and I wanted to draw something relating to that and then maybe have Jack looking at them affectionately, covering them in blankets or something… Needless to say, it took me a long time to finish all of these, but I’m very pleased with the results! Day 3: Favorite Setting or Location  ➡ Skeleton Island

The story, as it was recounted to me, is that Avery was the first Englishman to find the island. The Spanish had been using it to conduct illicit transactions for decades. Avery plans to lie in wait for them. He and his crew of 44 arrive and sail inland. But as they move up the inlet, they see something most unexpected. She was Spanish, but not one of the ships they’d been hunting. This ship had been there far longer than that. Captain’s log identifies her having set sail from Havana in 1636. 31 souls aboard. Avery finds the remains of all 31. Slaughtered. Brutally so […] Avery claimed to have seen the log. It said that the crew had refused to go inland to forage for food or for fresh water. That the first men in had returned, reporting sounds coming from the forest. The men said it sounded to them like the voice of God warning them to stay away.

I think one reason it’s so meaningful to me to imagine Jack and Anne becoming platonic life partners (no matter how you view her sexual orientation) is it turns on it’s head the idea that sexual relationships are “more” than non-sexual relationships, and says that maybe for Jack and Anne, being lovers was something they wanted to be for a time but that their relationship became “more” in a different sense afterwards. It’s also empowering to imagine trust between a man and woman so deep that even when he’s in love with her (as I think Jack will be all his life in some sense) he would rather have their relationship be platonic because that’s what’s right for Anne. I love the idea that just because you used to be lovers it doesn’t mean that’s how you’re meant to end up, and what someone means to you can change and deepen in different stages of your life. <3
