Gay book one of gay month.
In Deeper Waters by FT Lukens. Started it at 1:30pm, finished at 10:30pm.
My thoughts:
I loved this book. The fantasy is lovely, the romance is everything, also, there are pirates. Perfect comfort read, go forth and be gay.

the way jesper is treated breaks my heart. my boy literally has an addiction and none of his friends are family take it seriously. his dad is trying his best, of course, but he still tells him to 'just stop'. kaz makes mean jabs about it all of the time. they laugh about his lack of luck and money and he laughs along because that's just who jesper is, always laughing at himself with everyone. but deep down, I know that shit must haunt him
it's an addiction. he can't stop. he can't stop and there's no one getting him any help. instead they're making cruel remarks and kaz even makes him gamble for a job, and then still have the nerve to continue being cruel to him
he made jesper. who has an addiction. partake in that addiction. for a job
the same addiction that kaz was pissed off about in the first place
I honestly don't blame kesper for fighting with kaz in ck. poor boy was literally ridiculed constantly for having an addiction that he was never helped with. and because he's jesper fahey, funny guns, comic crow, he laughs along as though it's not ruining him
the way that jesper goes from resenting wylan’s goodness and that he’s so different from the rest of the crows to wanting to preserve it to seeing it as a strength and something that makes him special…..i need to lay down.
My favourite moment is six of crows will forever be

headcanon that wylan grew up with healthy, clear lungs, but after starting work at the tannery, slowly started developing some sort of weakness of the lungs until it made him run out of breath quickly.
and sometimes when he can’t catch his breath, when he tries too hard to inhale and gets nothing, he’s back on that boat again, remembering the first time he couldn’t breathe.

what other character starts as a fascist holy soldier, gets scooped up by a bunch of pro capitalist criminals, develops anarchist tendencies, and then gets nerfed by the author before he gets too powerful? exactly. nobody’s doing it like matthias helvar.
I absolutely adore the way Jesper dresses. I love to think of the year or so where it was Him, Inej, and Kaz together on jobs. Kaz is in merchers black, a child mocking a merchant for their schemes. Inej is in dark, practical clothing that can blend into shadows and conceal weapons.
…And Jesper is wearing a bedazzled belt over purple pants, a green shirt, and a multicolored waistcoat. His hat is striped with pins among the brim. His shoes have a small heel which isn’t even a style in Ketterdam yet, but he adopted it from his riding gear. He has a pocket watch that doesn’t tell the time but it looks cool. If the mission doesn’t require stealth, he jingles everywhere he walks.

I totally understand Wylan is Mr. “I don’t even like chemistry” but the vision of him throwing a bomb that he wasn’t completely sure would work, and it working perfectly.
Him covering his ears with his hands but smiling and bouncing on the balls of his feet slightly feral…
all because he’s so excited he got the formula just right. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone, but his eyes absolutely light up when he makes things because he can and because he wanted to and they actually work.
(Jesper’s still working on that self doubt)

theres something really special to me about the fact its canon inej lived with wesper in the few weeks after the auction. and even more so the detail that they ate honeycakes in the music room where wylan said it was the only place in the house he really felt happy. like thats not from a fic thats canon.... thats my little family right there
