Excerpts from Benjamin Cook’s interview with writer Steven Moffat in DWM #389:

DWM: David and Peter's Doctors work together wonderfully, don't they? Steven Moffat: In honesty, I think it's partly because they both really want it to. I agreed to do this for Children in Need without actually knowing what I was saying yes to. 'Eight pages? How wrong can I go?' I bumped into David at some Chiswick House concert thing, and we were having a bit of a laugh, and drinking too much, and he said, 'We should get Peter back in,' because he really loves Peter, and loves his Doctor and all that. He was dead keen. I know Peter reasonably well, because Sue [Vertue, Steven's wife] worked with him for a while [as producer of 2006 sitcom Fear, Stress and Anger, starring Peter], so we're friends, and our families are friends, our kids are friends, and he's a big fan of the show. He loves watching Doctor Who, and he was keen to come in and do it. I knew that he wouldn't be resentful. There's enough commonality between their Doctors, I think, for it to work. They're sweet together.
