Took Baby Boy to the vet since my trainer hasn’t been able to get the doxycycline to me. My vet tested for heartworms, and of course it came back positive. He gave me a 3-4 week dose of the doxy, said we’d stop for a month after, and then do another month’s round. He wants to follow up in six months. Hopefully we get rid of these heartworms soon. Good energy is greatly appreciated right now!

It’s a good metaphor tho, because the situation is never going to get better if you don’t eventually pull the door. And afterwards, no matter what the damage was, you’ll have a working cabinet, whatever plates you could salvage, and a place to start putting new plates.

So this was me for a long time. Afraid to open the door, certain that all that I was would crash and break. That I could never be repaired.
But I opened the door.
And what fell out and crashed to the ground was not me. They weren’t my dishes.
They were other people’s dishes.
Put inside we without my permission, when I was too young to know that I could not hold them all.
I opened the door, and I’m still here.
It turns out, I’m not that fragile.

Wowee wow wow! What a month it’s been!
Thor hasn’t been working a lot, or really been out of his kennel except to potty and maybe an hour or two a day, because of the heartworms. My poor baby boy has been cooped up for so long, and he was so anxious to start working.
I took him out Monday night to get his feet wet again. My friend and I went to Academy Sports (sporting goods store), a restaurant, and Target. While in Target and Academy, employees and other people tried talking to him, and someone even asked to pet him. He didn’t entertain anyone, and he looked to me and made eye contact with me each time someone tried talking to him. In the restaurant, a server LITERALLY screamed “PUPPY! Can I pet your dog?!” and pouted when I told him no. So that was fun lol.
I got sick with covid. I’m so much better now, but he was so concerned about me the entire time. I’m still experiencing coughing fits, and this is what I captured yesterday in the middle of one. He’s been so good about checking on me. He even comes up to me and nudges my arm when I have a fit.
And of course this picture. I just looked up and saw it. I couldn’t not share it. Just look at that tongue!

Anorexia is rearing its big, ugly head again
Hey y’all, just an update:
I’m getting Baby Boy on Saturday (8-7-21; it’s Wednesday, 8-4-21, now). He has heartworms. Marj called me about it Monday night and said she’d be taking him to the vet the next morning. Thankfully it’s only a small infestation, but I can’t work him for a month. She said the vet would do all of the follow ups for free if I could get him there, which is a good thing. The vet is keeping him until Friday, and then when Marj and I meet, she’s going to give me the doxycycline to give to him twice daily until he’s better.
Thoughts, prayers, good vibes—whatever’s your thing—would be greatly appreciated right now.

Guys!! I met Thor a few weeks ago! He’s such a dream! He alerted to me when Marj was trying to get him to cover, and he’s such a good dog. He handles really well. Marj even took us out to eat and let me handle him, and he did really well for his first time in a restaurant.
He’s massive. Pictures don’t do him justice. He can easily set his chin on a table without having to stretch or anything.
I bring him home on August 7th. It can’t come fast enough!
I get to meet Thor in a week! And next month he comes home! ❤️

I just wanna take a moment and say I find it absolutely magical that I wanted a male German shepherd named Thor when I first started the process of getting a service dog, how I was kinda bummed that she wanted to place me with a female, how bummed (but later excited) I was that we couldn’t find a female that was right for me and settling for Chili, to it coming full circle and me getting a male German shepherd named Thor (that I named because we knew nothing about him)

There are so many “guides to spotting fake service dogs” floating around on the internet, being spread around as though Catching A Fraud is some sort of public service, and they drive me batty.
Like, first, the entire premise is flawed. You’re gonna do a lot more harm by harassing an invisibly disabled person whose service animal is having a bad day (being, after all, an animal), than you are going to help by yelling at/calling a manager on a Karen who was dying to get in a fight today anyway. And gatekeepers are going to be much more likely to turn people away because they’ve been told that there is an Epidemic Of Fakes which can be spotted with these Five Handy Tips, than they are because there was one poorly behaved purse dog getting passed off as a service dog.
But also, second, every one of the guides I’ve seen includes blatantly false information.
