at least for my area, i think that bus stops with accessible seating located Within neighborhoods and not across 4 lanes of 45 mph (≈72 kph) without a crosswalk for an actual mile (≈1.6 km) would go much further to reducing the amount of cars on the road and thus traffic in general.
bus stops should be able to accommodate at least 10 seated individuals at any time but be shaded enough for 10 more to stand without wasting away in the heat with a drinking fountain and communities should build them next every grocery store. if we had even half as many busstops as we had gas stations we'd actually be getting places.
could you use my tax dollars to fund the expansion of lowcost/free transportation instead of adding another two lanes to the highway. can we reduce the number of people who Cannot travel without a personal vehicle (who cannot travel bc they have no personal vehicle). can we reduce the numbers of cars on the road and thus reduce the amount of air/noise/light pollution concentrated along the interstate. can we build walking paths for animals and people to navigate their own communities and environments. can we go back in time and kill henry ford.
it's really funny to celebrate something called "trans day of visibility" in 2026 tbh
[entirely surrounded by a rotating target reticle like im in a bond opening sequence] reckon the problem here is, im not visible enough,

I always say that the thing which sets Sargent apart as a portrait artist is that he draws/paints literally every subject - no matter their gender, social position, life vs representational drawing etc - like he is right that minute realising he's desperately in love with them. And it rules every single time.
Examples pulled just from his Wikipedia page most popular works. Absolutely devastating scenes for bisexuals for over a century
Don't forget the ALLIGATORS. He loves them too.

spindle whorls of incised bone, iranian, early islamic period c. 700s-900s a.d.
Genuine question for fiber folks: why did we move away from this style of spindle? There're pros and cons to every spindle design, im sure, but the flexibility of the interchangle whorl design seems pretty awesome (and very pretty!). Why are most modern spindles I've encountered fixed whorl? is it just a location problem, and this style is popular outside of the US?
I have a thought, but no evidence to back it up and no time right now to do the research that might back it up. So this is based on stuff I've been chewing on for a while now.
It's this:
I think most of Europe and European-descended North America effectively "lost" spindle spinning during the industrial revolution.
When it was repopularized in the 1960's-80's what came back was spinning for thick, heavy yarns and art yarns for knitting. A company or two probably said "This Is A Spindle", and since home based weavers were almost never spinning for themselves at the same time as weaving fine fabric (no blame, it's a lot of work when commercial fine warp and weft are relatively available), people accepted Spindle Is Big Chunky Thing That Makes Big Chunky Yarn.
I say this in part because I spin on a 14thC reproduction whorl in demonstrations. My character would be handing those spindles of single ply thread off to a weaver. I can fill one or two spindles in a day, working that way, and my character is based on someone who was not wealthy so unlikely to own several dozen whorls. It is extremely easy to slip the whorl off, drop the spindle-turned-bobbin into a basket, and jam a new shaft onto the whorl.
Long story short: I think we forgot.
a surprising number of people see the term "social construct" and think that it means something is not real when it actually means something is so very real because it was created by us and is constantly enforced, often violently
The fact that physical therapy is not a frontline treatment for chronic pain is a searing indictment of the global medical field.
Seriously. If you have chronic pain, limits on how much you can walk/move, or both go see a physical therapist.
I have had physical therapy ELIMINATE the following medical and pain problems, solely or in large part:
Lower back pain so severe I could at first not even walk to the bathroom (sciatic)
Foot pain whenever I walked (plantar fasciitis)
Three years of a fucked up ankle that was at times seriously impacting me
Pain when typing (carpal tunnel), at least twice
Widespread nerve damage that caused massive chronic pain and left me housebound for two years
The physical pain/fatigue/other results caused by having to recover from that kind level of pain and inactivity (cough being housebound) for so long
I try not to talk too much about my health on here, for a variety of reasons, but I am being newly reminded of how much basically every single person with chronic pain should be referred to physical therapy imho
If literally nothing else, because being in that much pain for that long causes a lot of inflammation and makes your body get stuck bracing and moving in ways that ALSO cause chronic pain, so that has to be addressed too.
If you don't have access to physical therapy, there are some really good resources, exercises, and videos online that can at least get you started (but be cautious if you can't get assessed in person), but I'm not qualified to vet or recommend any of those.
But if any of this sounds like it might help you, and you can go to physical therapy, please go to physical therapy.
It has been life-changing for me and has (in conjunction with other things) given me huge portions of my quality of life back.
I will say, if you have EDS, POTs, or Long Covid and/or ME/CFS, please for the love of god make sure your physical therapist is actually trained to help people with those conditions. I've only had one who really was equipped to help with my issues and every single other therapist ended up making me worse in the long run because they had no idea how to effectively treat me.
Physical Therapy is good and helpful, but make sure the person you're seeing knows what they're doing re: your conditions, and while feeling a little worse in the short term is normal, if it genuinely is making you worse stop going and find someone else.
I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I have just been seeing a physiotherapist for the last six months who is actually trained in pain science, and it's made an astounding difference. I've been seeing physios since I was a literal child due to my hypermobility (my mum was a physio, so when I had issues she knew where to take me), but the change between the care I used to get and the care I can get now that pain science has progressed is night and day.
However, if your physio subscribes to GET (Graded Exercise Therapy) and you have ME/CFS, find another physio. GET is deeply flawed and based on junk science, and is much more likely to cause lasting harm than help you.
