I’ve just seen some artist (idk animator idk who they were) say how, “if you’re trying to be an animator. Yeah stop. The animation industry is about to be shit with all the big companies and shit. Don’t go into this field.” And it was really depressing but then I started thinking, in this shit from butt situation we’re in with big studios with horrible decisions and rise of ai, it’s during times like these where we need to believe in the line of work stronger than ever. Fight back. Don’t lose hope. Shout out exactly why you want to be an animator and an artist. Because it brings you joy and it brings others joy. This isn’t just a job you clock in for. Animation has soul. The strongest part of animation and art in general is the soul. And right now. More than ever is when we need to boldly point that out.

I want to bring up a counter point. Yes a lot of time's it do be rooted in misogyny, but it could also just be when you view a character as "safe" and in a way "one of us". I could also phrase it like, "he's a bio male, but I like him and trust him the way I would a woman." I don't know if this is anything, it's just kinda how I interpreted it? But I agree that there are a lot of times that when this is said it also usually goes hand in hand with the character getting their traits and story stripped to just being the trope-y sub. which IS rooted in misogyny. big time.
idk, like I said, this is just a curious counter point. I just think not everyone who repeats a popular phrase uses it the evil way.
i mean, the sexism is a bit less obvious, but that sentiment is still assuming that men are dangerous and women are safe, which is still not good. it still comes from the usual gender roles of men as dominant, strong and aggressive while women are none of those things. just saying “but this time women are the good ones!” doesn’t make it less of a shitty stereotype.

I don't see many people talk about how sad it is to grow up in a "family first/family stick together" upbringing but grow up and realize that the love and tight bond is suffocating your growth as a person and you'll never be fully yourself unless you leave.
