Drowning my situationship fatigue in rangshi like any sane person would
Hello everyone!
It’s been a little while, but I’m coming to you with an update! Rayne – who generously offered to host this year’s event, but understandably became busy with life – has graciously handed the reins off to me, Coleyoly. I’ve been in the fandom for a minute or two, and my name might be familiar to some. It’ll be my first time hosting an event, so I beg your patience AND enthusiasm!
Let’s try to have some fun!
In previous polls, the community selected June for the event. However, in favor of giving everyone ample time to prepare their submissions Kyoshi Era Week 2026 will be hosted from August 24th through August 30th.
What works will be accepted? Everything, as long as it adheres to the rules (which will be updated very soon). This means one-shots, multi-chapter fics, drabbles, artwork, video shorts, headcanons, meta-analysis, cosplay, mood boards, music, etc! The only rule of importance right now is that your work must feature at least one character from The Rise of Kyoshi or The Shadow of Kyoshi.
Keep an eye on this blog, as I will be posting a link for prompt submissions in the coming week.
However-! To set things off on the right foot, previous Kyoshi Era Week participants and I have selected a handful of prompts which will be GUARANTEED for the event which are listed below. (To help those enthusiastic early starters and slowpokes like me!)
Starting prompts: Scars Fans Training Beaches On a mission Firefighter / Fire Fighter
That's all from me for now. Thanks for reading, Warriors!
Its so interesting that korra fans will go "yeah the writers hated korra because she was always struggling" when like, no?
I'm sorry but in what world does "yeah well she got bloodbent but broke out WITHOUT the avatar state" translate to "we hate her"?
Bends 3 elements at 4 years old without a mentor and masters waterbending at 8.
Gets half her soul ripped out and not only proceeds to soul project to beat the man that did it without need of her avatar power, but drags back raava who should've been gone for 10,000 years because she just refused to give up.
Is poisoned and not only takes out 3 enemies, but is such a problem for the core enemy that he pretty much has to just run away the whole fight until she collapses. She's dying and she's nearly destroying him anyway.
Literally bends the equivalent of a nuclear blast so it doesn't destroy her and her antagonist at point blank range.
First avatar to metal bend after aang failed to do so.
And that's without even talking about the insane bending feats she accomplishes with the main 4 elements.
And let's not forget that she pulls people left and right because she's that cool and pretty.
Her entire series was just going "yeah so the villains TRY to beat korra but she's just that girl so no". Zaheer straight up gives her respect and advice after she beat him because he's still floored at how strong she was. The writers fought for korra to exist at all and adamantly refused to give her up because the studio said they should.
They wanted a flawed, but strong female character and they gave her to us on a golden platter and you people are complaining about it!
Korra haters are so baffled by fans actually liking the show that they call any positive content about it "glaze".
Like idk man, wild to discover for you but I genuinely like legend of korra. I've liked it since it airred. Its my favorite show ever and I rewatch it yearly purely because I like it so much. I analyze the series for others because I like to provide a more positive look on things and feel that fans often gloss over the ways things connect because at times korras writing can be a bit more subtle than atla.
Honestly half the time they writing isn't even subtle either and fans just misremember things or get second hand reminders that lie about what happens.
If you're so offended by people liking something you hate maybe block it or just, stop being chronically online?
Not everything revolves around you.
Toph stans are frustrating to talk to because they act like she's an invincible beast who no one can ever take down and it means they act like all korras enemies would just easily be destroyed by her when the writers have given her weaknesses.
Like yeah Zaheer would be a problem for her because she in Canon struggles against people who fight off the ground. Ghazan would similarly likely pose a threat because while toph is a great earthbender, lava would be a problem. We've seen ghazan deal with metal bending.
Unalaq's fight outside the portal would not be "easy for her" when the man is coasting around on a wave never touching the ground and sending attacks randomly, not to mention he bends water so strong it destroys earth. Zuko would struggle just as much as mako did.
She lost to Yakone, amons dad, who was weaker than amon she isn't beating amon.
I'm genuinely tired of them treating her like she's untouchable as a way to shit on korra and her cast when the threats she faced were not the same as what they face. She'd struggle and that's fine!
'Would you fall in love with me again, if you knew what I'd done, the things I cannot change. Would you love me all the same?' Imagine if when Korra severed the Avatar Cycle she also released her past lives from their tethers to the world and they could meet their loved ones again ;-;
"Kyoshi is the loser in the relationship"
Canonically they were both bullied as teenagers.
Canonically Rangi runs around the mansion like a mad woman to look slightly impressive to Kyoshi.
Canonically Rangi was too nervous to ask Kyoshi out, even though she knew about her feelings a lot longer.
Canonically she hides her face in Kyoshi's chest whenever she has to talk about something emotional because she gets embarrassed.
Canonically she has bad control of her emotions and tends to lash out and or sob dramatically.
Canonically she cries herself to sleep occasionally because her feelings get too big.
CANONICALLY RANGI IS A LOSER WHO WAS TOO SCARED TO ASK OUT THE PRETTY GIRL SHE LIKES
THEY ARE LOSER4LOSER
With all this Korra discourse going around yet again with the new movie leak, it’s got me thinking about that one illustration interpreting Korra resetting the cycle as freeing the past avatars from their shackles of duty to reach enlightenment. Just the image of kyoshi and rangi reuniting somewhere in the after life after hundreds of years apart due to the cycle resetting is my favorite thing ever. Like yes, I think it would be impeccable writing for the avatars to be released from duty after 10,000 years serving the world to be finally put to rest, Korra I love you forever.
I really dislike the fanon Kyoshi that just goes straight to killing in every situation because not only does it disregard the novels, but it is also largely unfounded in the original show.
,,She told Aang to kill someone!"
Except she DIDN'T.
She said ,,Only justice will bring peace"
NOTE how she leaves it up to Aang what he thinks is the way of justice in this situation.
NOTE how she very much didn't tell him to go against his beliefs.
NOTE how she was right in the end, because Ozai was very much brought to JUSTICE, which ended in PEACE.
,,But she killed Chin the conqueror!"
No. She retreated. He died because of collateral damage.
Also she was very much justified in this. He literally conquered the entire earth kingdom.
,,But why would she even do that? Why would she let him get this far?"
Because she has barely any actual purpose in the series outside of presenting the utilitarian way of dealing with his problem.
The narrative purpose of that conflict was to strike up a comparison between her and Aang and to show both Aang and the viewer how easy solving the problem could be if he abandoned his beliefs (but again note how Kyoshi doesn't push him to do so).
Kyoshi holds barely any weight in the original series, which makes sense because it's not about her.
Obviously not all of her actions will have a reason.
For all we know she could have been stuck in the spirit world for chins reign.
the thing about legend of korra discourse other than it being almost old enough to have a driver's license is a lot of the first wave of criticisms/hate that comes up about the lore and changes to the world are coming from people who've never watched a sequel series or anything with a big timeskip in their lives and refuse to think things through
if you didn’t love kataang when they were two young traumatized genocide survivors learning how to navigate their grief by creating childhood together in the midst of a war that relentlessly tried to steal it from them you don’t deserve them now that they’re hot
This
I hate how some of the atla fandom treats Rangi as vicious or cruel when she's been constantly shown and told to us to be unfathomably kind and gentle.
Hei ran even says kyoshi has to do things Rangi won't because rangi is too sweet and virtuous
“why does someone MATURE like katara fall in love with a CHILD like aang?” fundamental misunderstanding of katara’s character and her dynamic with aang. she was forced to mature because she lost her mom but she is still, at the end of the day, a fourteen year old child.
she falls in love with aang because he doesn’t just represent hope for the world but he also gives her back her lost childhood with his whimsy. she gets to be silly and childish with him and that’s so important for her.
this fandom tends to adultify katara too much. she’s literally a kid. and it’s okay for her to be.
Rangi saying "where you go, I go" to kyoshi is the most loving, heartwarming thing she could ever say to her.
As someone who suffered from being abandoned and rejected by the world, kyoshi having someone that will never leave her and will protect her back everytime,is the best gift for her.
“Yes they put the mean bad parking note on my imaginary car after I took the bus there and back like I do every day”
I hate you and I hope your imaginary car totals into a giant metal ball and caves in your house
education is important
Every time I ask someone about the atla franchise and all they have to say is how it was impossible to even get past the first episode, all I can think about is this image:
Like you’ll enjoy the premise and characterizations in shows like Hunter x Hunter and Naruto (both great shows) that start off arguably just as dumb, but all of a sudden THIS particular annoying ass preteen main character is too unbearable.
